Yes, does anyone have it?!

reubs82 08-10-05 04:09 PM

I'll take the first one. I was hoping for the Bat-symbal on all four, but at least they are the original posters. Thanks for this. I've been anticipating these for a while. I wonder what the Anthology box will look like.

We're back up now ;) Sorry about that - the CPU on our server blew up!

Artman 08-10-05 04:20 PM

The way Buddy posted them you can really see the differences even in the cover art between the first two and last two - just thought it was kinda funny.

Glad they stuck with the orginal art, the font is OK although it seems too big. I hope they come in nice shiny embossed slipcases!

canaryfarmer 08-10-05 04:26 PM

I really don't like the font they chose, and the crazy beveling doesn't help.

jmj713 08-10-05 04:27 PM

Hopefully the boxset will not have "naked" keepcases as it usually is with WB's sets. I want the box AND the shiny slipcases!

conscience 08-10-05 04:37 PM

Batman and Batman Returns will be mine.

Cameron 08-10-05 05:11 PM

nice to see the covers...same artwork as before though? Oh well

TylerDurden_73 08-10-05 05:14 PM

the first three will be mine...

DVD King 08-10-05 05:42 PM

Ouch, those covers look craptastic. It looks like they got some intern to fool around with the old covers in photoshop. Looks really mediocre.

majorjoe23 08-10-05 06:22 PM

I think I'll buy the box set, sell Batman & Robin on ebay and stick Batman Begins in its place.

Kal-El 08-10-05 06:54 PM

Buyin' the first 3 over here.

fumanstan 08-10-05 07:00 PM

Was hoping for a classier look. Hopefully the box set looks decent.

TomOpus 08-10-05 07:00 PM

Big fan of the first 2... but I might end up just getting all 4. Sometimes it's fun to watch a craptastic movie.

Mike Lowrey 08-10-05 08:50 PM

Well, hopefully they'll use similar artwork and packaging for Batman Begins as well.

Same here. I find the covers pretty classy looking myself, as long as they match Batman Begins.

ReduxGuy 08-10-05 09:44 PM

I like the art.

I don't like the text. It reminds me too much of Catwoman (shudders).

Lastly, I hope it's in one of those cases that they did Amadeus or Citizen Kane in (I forget what they're called).

milo bloom 08-10-05 10:49 PM

The first two are buys, I don't think the artwork is that bad.

I'd buy DTS double dips of Mask of the Phantasm and Return of the Joker:Uncut in a heartbeat. Maybe even Subzero.

If it's the one with Bats looking downwards, it's a shame Anchor Bay isn't releasing it...

The could put a chip in the case that plays the song from A Charlie Brown Christmas.

yellowbedwetter 08-11-05 12:03 AM

the fonts look ridiculously cheesy.

LivingINClip 08-11-05 05:19 AM

Now show me some 'Begins' artwork, damnit!
Sweet tho'!

CertifiedTHX 08-11-05 06:12 AM

Recycling the cover art is fine--though I was rather hoping they would use the Batman logo covered in snow for Batman Returns. Has a cooler (no pun intended) effect. But this works.

But that font is horrible. Too big (feels intrusive on the artwork), the letters are too thin, and the embossing...sometimes 3-D is one dimension too much. If you're going to use the original cover art, use the original font, too.

I'm not a big fan of a chiseled gray or silver border around artwork. Sometimes it works--perfectly happy with the Star Trek re-release covers. But the design of the Terminator 3 cover--featuring a dark gray border supposedly giving the impression of a metallic frame--looks dreadful. (They had an alternate cover with Arnold and the T-X on top, the title in the middle, and T-X endoskeletons on bottom; was so much better. Don't know why they went with the one they did.)

Anyway, these Batman covers are tending to fall in the latter category for me. Thin, chiseled silver. If you're going to have a border, I like a thicker one. I don't know, maybe it's just that font that's throwing me off. It really is hideous.

Then again, as I look at these, I suppose I was really hoping for new covers. Totally new. Reimagined, like so many re-releases are. Would like to have seen a little more thought, a little more creativity, put into this aspect of the project. I'm really not all that pleased with these, actually.

Great content, though!

I think the covers are excellent -- the font is dynamic, and the metallic edging really makes the colors in the artwork pop.
