Good idea! Put the prequel in there as well!

Sorry about my off-topic rant of Batman Begins; I suppose we can discuss in the Movie forum. Anyway, each film sold separately, new transfers, extras--this is all excellent news, and let's hope the 8-year wait will have been worth it. Do you all suppose WB has waited this long because of the long development of Batman Begins? Now I have to convince my wife to hold off on renting Batman until these come out!

digitalfreaknyc 07-28-05 08:26 AM

Well, if you hate Batman and Robin that much, you could always sell that one and put Batman Begins in it's place :)

I have no interest in Batman Forever or Batman & Robin but there is no reason they shouldn't be packaged together. Forever was clearly meant to follow up Returns (Burton produced remember.) None of the villains are repeated and Michael Gould is in all 4. Batman Begins is certainly creating a seperate series as villains will be repeated and therefore shouldn't be in the box.

Nick Martin 07-28-05 10:13 AM

Michael Gough, not Gould. ;)

Oy. Watch the movies again. Batman to Batman & Robin all tie together. Especially Batman Forever with the first two. I don't care if there is a little more neon lights, that does not remove continuity.

And I agree, there is no reason for Batman Begins to be packaged with the other four movies. Begins starts a new string.

Another update, from The Bits Rumor Mill:

Okay... a quick follow-up on yesterday's Batman news. We've confirmed with sources in the know that the new 2-disc Batman Forever DVD will NOT include a new director's cut as previously rumored. It was apparently something that was considered, but we're told it ultimately didn't happen. Just FYI.

No director's cut? No deal.

reubs82 07-28-05 04:42 PM

Damn, still no cover art. I'm getting eager for these. Too bad about the no director's cut for Batman Forever. That was probably going to be my deciding factor on that one.

DVDOtaku13 07-28-05 05:25 PM

Well, that's one less Batman DVD I have to worry about. :|

TNAJason 07-28-05 06:27 PM

Can JS do anything right? I loved Batman:Forever but that Director's Cut is what made the Batman Box Set my most wanted dvd(s). They're still in the top 5,but damn :(

That was my deciding factor. I'll stick with Burton's two and prob a blind buy of Begins.

Bobbin 07-28-05 07:41 PM

Wow, real disappointing. I probably would've actually got it if it was the DC. I guess I might get the first two if they're cheap, but...Forever had the bones of a great film, stuck in a mediocre one. Real shitty news, WB.

CertifiedTHX 07-28-05 08:41 PM

The lack of a director's cut for Batman Forever is disappointing, but certainly no deal-breaker for me. Been looking forward to this set ever since I first heard the rumors of it. Love the first two; Burton and Keaton kick ass. The others were more or less mediocre, but they do have their moments, and can be fun for a little mindless entertainment.

In terms of extra content I'm actually more excited about these special editions than I am about that of Titanic. As a movie, I love Titanic far, far more, but they seem to be doing such an amazing job with the Batman material. Documentaries and featurettes galore and all the music videos from the films (nine total). I know the extras for Titanic have not been announced officially yet, but there's been no indication that the video for "Southampton" is being included. Been hoping for that for years.

Michael Gough, definitely. And Chris O'Donnell. Not that O'Donnell was in all four, but I always liked him as Dick Grayson/Robin. Thought he filled the role perfectly.

Almost can't believe I actually paid to see Batman & Robin and skipped Batman Returns....

I was hoping for a director's cut as well :( I'l still purchase the box set though :)

I saw that once on TV years ago, then again last week in horrible quality Windows Media Video...Being my favorite piece of music from that film, I had wanted to see it again for a long time, but it's just not very good. (Intrusive dialogue, scenes of death and destruction syncronized to a piece of music meant to celebrate the life and glory of the ship...) it just didn't work for me.

I hope Elfman's music gets some attention on the first two films' DVDs.

Skoobooz 07-28-05 10:27 PM

Although I'm disappointed not to have the proposed DC of Batman Forever, if it had never been brought up, I wouldn't have missed it. However, I can only hope that they will at least present some deleted scenes (from all the movies, of course, but particularly from Forever).

Either way, it would be nice if they would hurry up and officially announce the damn things, with specs and artwork. I also hope that they take advantage of the period-specific documentaries and whatnot that were done for the movies (like the Pierce Brosnan-hosted special on the Robin Hood: POT special edition), mixed in with some retrospective thoughts.

Cameron 07-28-05 10:42 PM

i wanted to see what could have been done with it...like dressing up an ugly girl...see if it works...oh well

Fincher Fan 07-29-05 05:06 AM

I hope we get a new director's cut of Batman Begins with more bat-nipples and bat-ice skates.
