QuiGonJosh-

You have all the horror basics covered. I recommend some Mario Bava and more older horror films. I started liking horror movies watching the same ones you have in your collection, and the more I explored, the more I got into older (especially Italian) horror films. A good reference is the great Phil Hardy Overlook Encyclopedia of Film - Horror. I HIGHLY recommend this and the other Overlook Press genre Film Encyclopedias.

Nice collection - keep it up!

Hey, mine is also dominated by anime and Animation

Let this guy borrow some asian cinema and he'll be hooked and watch his collection do a turn around.

Once you see and get a taste of what else is out there Hollywood looks worse and worse every day.

Not that I was really asking for my collection to be rated, but where is yours? I'd love to see what you're harboring over there. By the way, is your "M" key broken?

Hello Everybody,
All of your collection's look great, and I feel its hard to rate someone else's collection because everyone has different tastes but each one of you have great collections that consist of all types of genres.

As for my collection, I like all types of movies so that's what I own. Just click the link below.

Ianscloset, I gotta give your collection B+. You own a alot of great titles (21 Grams, Goodfellas, Memento) But I'm big on foreign films and classics and your collection is lacking it. Hey you own what you like and its cool if you're cool.

thanks for the nice words. I have seen Bava and Argento movies. None of them really tickled my fancy. I have also tried a lot of Asian Horror and just didn't find them creepy or interesting in the least bit. I just like american horror I guess.

Oh and you post on DVDAF don't ya? Haha. I posted on there. Tequila. Remember?

I buy what I like and burn what I like. I've got my 20-Minute Workout DVD-R (disc 4 of 7) playing in the background now (conversion from VHS).

Here ya go.....

I kinda wish DVDProfiler had an option where you could show the price paid. I wouldn't buy some movies for 15 or 20 bucks, but like you say, finding them at Walmart for 8 bucks almost makes it an impulse purchase, and moves a 'maybe' title into the 'eh, why not?' category.

CCS and Sailor Moon notwithstanding, I don't know if I'm a shoujo 'fan' necessarily, although many of the big titles in anime do feature magical females/girls. I've been renting a lot of anime through Netflix that I might or might not have bought, and that helps alter the average content I own [on disk 6 of Full Metal Panic now, and while I like it a lot, the replay value of most anime to me, especially long series, means it has to either not be available via rental, or available for purchase somewhat cheaply, to be worth a buy.] Some of the other series or disks i've had, after getting one or two disks, I discovered I didn't necessarily want to keep the series enough to bother buying the rest and sold what I had [Magic User's Club, Boogiepop Phantom, Lain, etc] and rented the rest to check them out.
{Having said that, I now see that Netflix has all 18 disks of CCS}.

I actually have never seen Exorcist, although it's been on my Netflix queue for years. Now that halloweens' over, it should be available, so maybe I'll move it up before i start another tv series.

You've never seen The Exorcist? We've been married how long now, and I didn't know this?! Remind me to hide upstairs when you rent it. Freaked me out.

We seem to have similar tastes, if you're looking to add, I might recommend:

Last Man on Earth
Black Hawk Down SE (I can't tell if that is what you have or not)
Dirty Dozen
Patriot Games/Clear and Present Danger (Jack Ryan - Affleck)
Search for Spock/Voyage Home (gotta complete the middle trilogy in the series!)
Superman the Movie, but no Superman II?

Here's my collection. I started collecting in november of 1998.

I was born in Havana Cuba in 1964 and came to the USA in april 1994 in a raft, but that's another story.

What am I missing?

Thank you.

Looks to me like you have a little of everything. Good selection. Knowing how a lot of people in here rate, though, I think they would say you lack in foreign and horror. Your horror selections appear to be pretty run-of-the-mill...that is to say movies most anyone would have in their horror section, no matter how few they may have. Your music selection in nice, and you definitely have your Oscar winners represented.

Overall, pretty nice: B+. I'm not going to suggest anything for you to get, because I believe one should get what they like. If anything, I would indulge in more "guilty pleasures", if you catch my meaning (although it looks like you may have a few selections that may be considered just that)...Which leads to what will probably be the review of my collection.

I personally have never cared what people may think of my taste in movies, nor in my collection. I know what I like, but I do have an open mind, and am always up for suggestions. I buy what I like, not what I think may impress others. The DVD's I've tended to buy so far have been favorite movies from growing up that finally make it to DVD, to replace VHS copies I may or may not still have. Although I do have a few selections in the genre, I've never really been a big fan of horror, nor foreign films (which I don't think I have any). I also don't prefer anime, so there's no need to tell me I don't have any; this is something I already know. If I could afford it, along with movies that I know I like, I would buy a lot more classics and Oscar winners and such. So, review away.

Thank you The Infidel. I do have around 30-35 foreign titles in my collection. I would like to have many more, that's why since September of this year I buy a foreign title every month (especially from the Criterion Collection).

As for the horror genre I do not enjoy it very much (my wife does) and I am very picky about the titles that I own in this genre.

I would like to have also a few anime titles.

My favorites are epics, dramas and music concerts.

At the end it is like you said. I collect for my own pleasure and my family's taste and not because what somebody believes I should have.

By the way, you own a very nice collection.

Thank you for your kind words.

Thanks for checking out my list stinkeye.
Just have the regular version for Black Hawk Down. Not much of an extras person, so did not double dip.

Have Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger on Laser Disc, have not upgraded yet.

Have thought about purchasing the other movies you suggested except for Last Man on Earth but will consider buying. See you do not yet own Last Man yet either though.

I wish I had that Star Trek Season 1 that you have though.

Everyone else please feel free to take a look at my hobby.

pretty good...I can see about 50 titles that you could sell off easily, but they look like guilty pleasures so I'll let it slide.

Good stuff! keep it up

Anyone got any particular recommendations? Aside from getting another hobby?

Hmm.
