War
Maybe try out some older war related films:
Tora, Tora, Tora
Stalag 17 (nice mix of comedy for your tastes)
Kelly's Heroes
Dirty Dozen
Little foreign war ...
JSA (Joint Security Area)
Tae Gu Ki
War Documetary
The World at War
The Occult of the Third Reich
Sci Fi
Older stuff:
Omega Man
Solaris
Animated Sci Fi:
Akira
Metropolis
Final Fantasy: Spirits Within
Spriggan
General Sci Fi:
Equilibrium
12 Monkeys
Comedy
Again, movies existed before 1990 ..
Fletch
Three O'Clock High
Better off Dead
Skin Deep
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Gang - Yakuza
Check out some foreign titles ...
Branded to Kill
Rainy Dog
Bullet in the Head
Full Contact
Fudoh: The Next Generation
The Yakuza Papers
Attack at the Gas Station
Cyclo
Decent collection overall .. it's exactly how mine started before really getting into cinema. I'll give it a B for now, as I see some promise with your direction. And there's so much more left ...

Q: Interesting recommendations for him. I would have recommended many of the same (except for foreign. Not a big foreign fan myself, but that is just me.
Anyone have any recommendations for me? I have really been concentrating on TV shows recently, but have a decent amount of films overall as well. Just over 500, I think (last link in sig).
Thanks!

Hi Guys, I just wanted to get some "expert" opinion on a direction to take my collection in the future. I just wanted some blind buys that might peak my interests. Thanks!

Can you guys recommend anything? I'm starting to slow down on the catalogue titles because I feel like I own everything I want to see (aside from my impossible goal of owning the entire Criterion Collection)

Oh and you post on DVDAF don't ya? Haha. I posted on there. Tequila. Remember?

Can I have some more "viewers like me" opinions on mine and possibly some recommendations of movies/genres? Thanks in advance. And let me know if you want me to peruse yours...

Your options are much better if you are region-free. It doesn't appear that you are since I didn't see any other region discs. You may want to check it out. I got my Toshiba 4900 for $86 shipped and it is a progressive scan player with DTS and haven't looked back.
Some titles I really like:
36th Chamber of Shaolin (Celestial)
The Five Venoms (Celestial)
Shaolin Temple (Celestial)
Iron Monkey (Honk Kong Legends)
Green Snake (IVL)
Are all top notch, imo.
Looking over your collection a second time, I notice that you don't have any schlock. Get a little down and dirty and pick up Hellraiser, Suspiria and Re-Animator.
Please give my collection a once over and let me know what you think. I think I need more comedy.

Seriously, it is very nice. The only thing I noticed, is you've got Evil Dead 2, but not 'Evil Dead'.
