is the commentary for the Leon SE still a go? the dvd answers link only mentions featurettes.

Do you mean the commentary that Natalie Portman said she did? Sometimes actors get interviews and commentaries confused. Heck, by the definition of the word, interviews are still commentary on the film. Sometimes they even film commentaries as they're recorded and use the same comments for both.

Regarding the UE Fifth Element, does anyone know if the "high definition anamorphic widescreen transfer" is the same one used in the last Superbit release?

It looks like they are only adding a trivia track to the movie disc which shouldn't take up that much of the bit-budget. I hate having the indecision of whether or not to sell my current SB....grrrr.....

FYI, from The Digital Bits:

"The Fifth Element: Ultimate Edition and Léon: The Professional - Deluxe Edition. Each will carry an SRP of $24.96.

The Fifth Element: Ultimate Edition (2 discs) will include anamorphic widescreen video, both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 audio, a factoid trivia track, 4 behind-the-scenes featurettes (The Star Element, The Visual Element, The Alien Element and The Digital Element), film galleries, camera, costume and set tests and more.

Léon: The Professional - Deluxe Edition (2 discs), will also include anamorphic widescreen video and both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 audio, along with 3 behind-the-scenes featurettes (The Professional: Ten Year Reunion, Trial by Fire: Natalie Portman as Mathilda and Birth of a Star: Jean Reno as Léon) and more."

Leon is one of my favorite films, and I'm a featurette sucker, so I'll double dip for that one.

Sounds awesome!

abe 11-02-04 10:03 PM

can't wait for both of these!

eau 11-02-04 10:21 PM

Awesome! Both DD and DTS!

steebo777 11-03-04 08:36 AM

Passing on both as I own good versions of both as is.

dyevin 11-03-04 09:16 AM

leon looks good, but i'll still be waiting to see how the audio situation pans out...

Ejunior2 11-03-04 04:11 PM

Will probably wait for 5th Element in HD-DVD instead. Current release is pretty clean.

PopcornTreeCt 11-03-04 04:40 PM

Cool, hopefully there's a lot "more".

So which would be the version to own the new Leon The Professional 2 disc SE or the International Uncut Version?

If its a first purchase there will be no reason to not get the upcoming "Deluxe Edition" as long as it includes the corrected audio from the second release (2nd release of the International cut).

So the deluxe edition will have the International version for sure?

According to the press release..

The special edition of Leon will also include a wealth of new extra material, along with the unrated international version of the movie in a Superbit™ presentation. Extras will include a new ten year reunion featurette entitled The Professional, a Trial by Fire: Natalie Portman As Mathilda featurette, a full length Leon fact track, a Birth of a Star: Jean Reno As Leon featurette and more.

I saw that, but then I saw Amazon and DVDempire has it listed as R-rated and my uncut International Version says unrated right on the disc, so I'm a little nervous about the right details being out there. I don't want to get rid of the one I have for the R-rated one. I have a policy of never owning two copies of a dvd, but the bonus features are too good on this deluxe edition, so I'd own both if it's not really the Unrated Cut in the deluxe edition.

abintra 11-12-04 12:44 AM

The only way to be absolutely 100% is to wait until closer to the release date but I'd be shocked if it isn't the longer cut given why they are re-releasing this for the fourth time and the specific mention of it being a Superbit presentation, the title (Leon), the running time (133). I'd trust all of that over an 'R' rating at a couple of retailers.

Wannabe 11-12-04 01:05 AM

Does the new version make obsolete all other versions, including the Superbit version? The price seems to be right - $17 with STL.

abintra 11-12-04 01:18 AM

Depends on a couple of things.

1) whether or not they correct the audio issue that was present in the Superbit release

2) whether one is interested in the original theatrical cut

3) ones interest in the isolated score/ad campaign/trailers on the previous International cut release if they are not included in the deluxe edition

Leon Liew 11-12-04 01:43 AM

Just stick with the ones I am having no double dip.

BizRodian 11-13-04 09:19 PM

Those extra features on Leon sound like crap, really. 3 behind-the-scenes featurettes? That is NOTHING. I don't know why everyone is getting so excited.

The ten year reunion sounds fun.

Ten years.

Fuck, I'm old.

BizRodian 11-13-04 09:45 PM

Yeah, it does sound like fun, but it's still probably only ten minutes long with 1/3rd of that being footage from the movie.

We know how these featurettes normally turn out.

DonnachaOne 11-13-04 10:01 PM

True, which is why the smarties among us wait for reviews!

Leon is my FAVOURITE film. Seriously. But I'm not going to shell out for something I already have. The fact track is a great idea, but if it's anything like Pulp Fiction's or Mad Max's, it'll be stuff most fans already know.

Leon is my fav film as well. I'll probably buy every new home entertainment incarnate of this film until the day I die. :)

Yes, but Mathilda would be legal now.
