it'll be very interesting to see what they've cooked up for the Léon: SE.. one of my absolute favorite films.. i never ever thought this'd ever get a SE release.

Comfort Eagle 10-20-04 08:42 PM

Eh. Im pretty happy with the copy of Lean that I have now, but we shall see what the new one offers.

Yeah. Hold on to that Lean disc. Jan DeFont and Gene Reno couldn't possibly come up with a decent special edition.

Wait, is the Superbit Leon the only one with correct audio?
No. Many people agree that the Leon SB uses the uncorrected audio master. The initial batch of the 1-disc Leon suffered the same audio glitch, but was then corrected with a new catalog # and the back cover now says "Newly Created 5.1" or something to that effect.

for some reason i held out on leon...although i love the movie.

someone stole my SB of 5th element...i'll get this one too

JONA99 10-21-04 03:17 PM

I have the SB Leon, but haven't watched it yet. Could someone point out where the audio is "incorrect"? I wouldn't normally upgrade, as I seldom care about extras, but if the audio's that bad, I'll make an exception.

I'm happy with my superbit releases of these at present.

Rammsteinfan 10-21-04 08:39 PM

i think im gonna trade in my Leon cause I have the messed up one, never did anything about it. Hopefully this new one will have both versions of the film or at least the longer cut.

Barry Oldman and Harry Aiello were great in this movie.

TomOpus 10-21-04 09:25 PM

I already have both flicks but I could be enticed to double-dip.

Cameron 10-25-04 02:47 PM

hope this means Gattaca will get the same...since the old one is 2 packed with fifth element for cheap now

masetodd 10-25-04 03:13 PM

I would almost bet a paycheck that the 5th Element will not be a Superbit-quality transfer or include a DTS soundtrack on the movie disc. But then it will have some great bonus materials on the second disc.

Which means for a lot of us that we will have to keep 2 versions of the same movie on our shelves if we want both a great picture/soundtrack AND special features - Man that bugs me!

Extras on The Fifth Element will include a Star Element featurette and film gallery, a Visual Element featurette and film gallery, Alien Element which is another gallery of featurettes, a Digital Element featurette and more.

The special edition of Leon will also include a wealth of new extra material, along with the unrated international version of the movie in a Superbit™ presentation. Extras will include a ten year reunion featurette entitled The Professional, a Trial by Fire: Natalie Portman As Mathilda featurette, a Birth of a Star: Jean Reno As Leon featurette and more.

Also, I just added these SEs to the DVDaf database and they were approved in minutes!

etrnlevol 10-28-04 08:35 AM

The Superbit Leon with bonus features is enough to make me double dip.

digitalfreaknyc 10-28-04 09:03 AM

That doesn't agree with what we've heard thus far though. Apparently Natalie recorded a commentary!

Plus the Superbit Leon was screwed up in the sound department as well.

I'm holding off till we get some real reviews of this.

cardaway 10-28-04 09:33 AM

I'm also divided on letting go of my Leon. I've got one of the fixed 5.1 DVD's and I'm been lead to believe it's the only one they have got right so far. Doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy about the chances that the new disc's sound will be correct.

QuiGonJosh 10-28-04 09:51 AM

I hope its a corrected Superbit of Leon and not the one with the bad surrounds...

I'm sure it will be.

QuiGonJosh 10-28-04 10:45 AM

I dunno...its Columbia...

Why are you so sure? The Superbit didn't come out forever ago and it was screwed up. I've purchased 3 versions thus far and all have had imperfect sound:

Original
Superbit
Japanese DTS.

I'm sick of buying this movie until they can get it right.
