Damn... the SS edition looks like a damned nice package. They really went all-out.

The screencaps almost look a little too bright, but the BU ones did as well. I'd say that the SS caps appear a little more colorful with a slightly more surreal/nauseating quality to them.

Nice boobies, too!

Instead of driving around town or trusting some sales person to tell you whether your local BestBuy has this title in stock, just go to the website and select "In Store Pickup" (assuming that any local stores offer this option). This will tell you if any stores in the area have the title in stock, and you can order it for pickup at that location. I did it at 8:00 Central (only one store in the Dallas area listed it in stock) and I've already received a confirmation that the disc is waiting for me.

Avoid their "Blood of the Zombie" disc. They botched the transfer. Everything is all "squeezed in". It looks like they took 2.35 and squeezed it down to 1.85

The problem with that is many times the site is wrong. I have gone into the store on numerous occasions when the website tells me they have what I am looking for "in stock", only to find that they don't. I even talked to an employee that had obviously heard of the issue, and said that he was aware that their website sucked.

tried that.....waste of time. lets face it....the stores are different. while some may be up-to-date...others are to confused. mine had one "held" for me...I went....they didnt even carry the title! what one store will stock, another may not.

Although I already have the Blue Underground version, I must admit I'm interested in the SS version, as it looks worthwhile after all.

I went to my Best Buy, which online lists it as being available. I couldn't find any on the racks, and had a fellow look it up on the computer. It said it was out on 8/31! I challenged that, and he looked it up on the website. This listed it as 8/17! So he said he couldn't sell it to me!

Good grief!

English and Italian: 5.1, 2.0 and Mono on Shriek!

I can confirm that the Shriek Show has English and Italian 5.1, English and Italian 2.0, and English and Italian Original Mono. Also, I don't think the commentary is on the movie disc as it is not an option to choose from menu, only subtitles. But, the packaging does state commentary by Ian McCullough. Whether it is same as AB I have no idea.

The menu of the movie disc was just a poster with "Zombi 2" and nothing more. Nothing interactive like I heard the BU had. The movie itself looked great at least compared to the old Anchor Bay release which I popped in after. I am not real good with picking apart the differences in detail, but the Shriek Show looked amazingly crisp and clean with very little to no specs or flecs.

I only popped it in for a second so that is all I have for ya. Hope it is something for some to get by with.

why is everyone concerned about the English 5.1? my old Anchor Bay had 5.1 as well, so what is the biggie with these new ones having them? (granted i didn't watch or listen to the Anchor Bay)

And now my question is...is there any need whatsoever to keep my old Anchor Bay release considering Shriek has the McCullough commentary???

I don't know if this was already mentioned, so here goes.

I found some possible problems with the BU version. Can someone compare it to the SS?

1.18.16 - Dr Menard closes the window door. When it shows the zombies outside, there is a hiccup in the video.

1.21.40 - A zombie is coming thru the window, Brian shoots it and the window door explodes. It's only one shot, but you hear multiple shots.

1.19.05 - Can't hear Menard pump the rifle before zombie gets him. (I'm pretty sure the AB is the same)

the website doesn't list it coming out until 8/17 as others have mentioned, which probably explains why everyone within a 30-40 mile radius from my place has the Blue Underground disc, but not the Shriek Show disc.

I would think YMMV on this one.

Did you check the actual movie? I've had discs where I couldn't find a commentary track ('Simpsons' comes to mind), so I just put the movie on and changed audio tracks until I found it. (This might be slightly annoying if the disc has the mono, the stereo, the Italian mono, the Italian stereo, etc.)

In that case, it may be in the actual movie; from what I remember, they weren't exactly a stickler for sound.

You are correct sir!! The McCullough commentary is track 7/7 on the movie disc. Not listed as an option on menu, but it is there. Good call.

At about 5 PM I placed an order at BestBuy.com for the SS disc, with an in-store pickup option. After receiving an order telling me my order was in at 5:30, I went over to Best Buy where they had filled my order with the BU disc. The customer service woman called up someone from the DVD section, who proceeded to help me look for the SS edition. After 2 salespeople searching all of the shelves for about 10 minutes, they went into the stock room and came out another 10 minutes later empty handed. The salesperson said the whole situation is weird because they have both editions in their computer with different sku numbers, and a reasonable number of each left in stock. He told me to try just ordering it from the website or trying back next week.

I guess I am glad I waited for the Shirek Show version, instead of jumping the gun like some did. I just wished Shriek Show announced that their edition will have the same audio option as BU's, so some folks could have waited. Everyone was picking on SS's transfer, but the screencaps I have seen seem to imply it is almost identical!

To me the BU colors look more accurate. I'm hard pressed to say one looks sharper than the other. I'm only buying 1, and I'm going with the SS for all the extras. Ordered from BB online. Hope they send me the correct version. A question: Is there a separate SS 1 disc edition?

How reliable is Best Buy's in store pick up? It says on their site that they have the 2 disc one in stock at my store. Should I buy it online, or just chance it tomorrow morning?
