Ah, you see, there's a big difference there. Jokes about rape can be funny and making fun of rape can be funny (e.g. Happiness) but rape itself isn't.
dont be so thin skinned
im a girl and I didnt take offence to it.
lighten up
I'm not trying to defend women's rights on film or anything like that. All I'm talking about is it wasn't funny. It was offensive, yes, but that's not why I objected to it. It was the lack of humor.

But that's the least of my problems with the film. It's poorly acted, written, and most importantly, timed, unlike the other Monty Python films. Holy Grail and Life Of Brian were made by not just talented comedians but talented filmmakers. As a result, the films showcased completely inspired lunacy and courageous vision, something I found severly lacking in YellowBeard...

So, it's been over a year since anyone replied to this post. Anybody have any new updates in the last ~400 days?

Here's some news for you:
"Read, read, read, read! Let me tell you something - last time I read a book, I was raped. Let THAT be a lesson to you."

She never did like reading . . .

"When little Dan was two minutes old I tattooed it on his head."
"Does he know about this?"
"Oh, no no no, that's why I kept him in the cupboard for three years. That may be why he's a bit odd with all these books, and reading, and stuff like that."

Frankly, I'm a little stunned that this hasn't made it to DVD yet (or any movie, for that matter). I know it's a little known film, but it's a classic!

This movie represents the last VHS tape I own, the only VHS tape I feel is worth hanging on to without a DVD replacement.

I need some Mr. Prostitute, who is in charge of...

I'm actually pretty jealous that you have it. I never picked it up on VHS and I just can't bring myself to pay $30+ for a used, ex-rental, VHS copy (all you can find, these days ).

The second I know it is coming on DVD I'll sell you my only 4 or 5 times viewed retail copy for $29.99!

It had been a while since I'd seen Yellowbeard, so I decided to watch again last night. In doing so, I realized that this movie has more rape jokes than probably the entire history of cinema.

And yet, somehow, it manages to avoid being offensive in the process.

Betty: Well, it's been awhile since we had a little cuddle.
Yellowbeard: I raped ya, if that's what you mean.
Betty: Okay. It was half-cuddle, half-rape.

talemyn -- Check Cinemax's listings every once and a while. They were playing Yellowbeard not long ago and probably will be re-visiting it again in the next few months. Taping it there will probably get you "eBay import DVD" quality image and sound.

Don't get Cinemax. But that's a good idea . . . I'll have to keep my eyes open for it being shown on cable somewhere.

Thanks!

It was OK, but not something I'd probably need to own. There are two other even funnier movies that have still never made it to DVD:

Going Berserk
Jekyll and Hyde...Together Again

"Going Berserk"

Is that the one with the "so unbelievably bad, it's great" Kung-Fu movie within the movie? Where an oriental Joe Flaherty knocks himself out with nunchucks?

Yep!! It's one of my favorite comedies of all time. Classic John Candy as well!

Yellowbeard DVD

If you have a really good computer you might be able to make yourself a copy of the movie onto DVD so that your VHS doesn't wear down.

Looking for this to repeat on Encore as well so I'se can make meself a pirated copy. Speaking of rape humor and Python side projects whatever became of ERIK THE VIKING with Terry Jones and Tim Robbins among others. Also funny and with a questionable rape/humor scene.

Another one that I'm anxiously awaiting . . . no sign of it that I can find, however.

Yellowbeard DVD

Since it's not looking like we will see this classic movie on DVD anytime soon (if ever), I have taken it upon myself to convert the movie to DVD. I am almost finished separating the chapters and designing the menus. If anyone is interested in obtaining a copy of this DVD, feel free to contact me via email.
