Well, mine is already on its way from DVDEmpire, so I'm getting it, even with the subpar presentation. It'll be better than my DVD-R from the Starz airing a few years back anyway.

Good point. But then why is Cheech & Chong the most prominent feature on the cover?

I would imagine that that is what they think will drive the most sales.

HOLY CRAP did they put as little $$$ into this DVD as possible!! The menu looks like its one of the standard generic ones you'd get out of Nero or Easy Media Creator. Its in no way customized to the movie other than the fact that it says Yellowbeard. There isn't even a chapter selection:

I'm surprised its not just a printable DVD-R.

And I think the reviewer was being kind on the picture quality. Very grainy and dark in some scenes.

Wow... I think that is the worst menu I've seen from a major studio since 1998 or so. There were a few bad ones during the first year or so of launch, but... wow.

If that's what we had in store from Sony w/the MGM catalog, I have to be pretty damn excited that Fox is going to be distributing them now.

I'd certainly say there was some truth to that.

You know, FYE had them in the ACTION section, too. It must be the way Sony/MGM is marketing it to them. Still, with all the people in this movie - Monty Python guys, Marty Feldman, Peter Cook, Cheech & Chong, etc. - why would you put it anywhere but COMEDY unless you wanted to cash in on the who POTC buzz?

If they're trying to cash in on 'Pirates', shouldn't they put it in a display that people will see? I don't think people are browsing through the action section saying "Oh my God! I really need a pirate movie! I think I'll look under 'Y'..."

Well, the "Action" section is where most retailers also stock POTC and other "swashbuckling" type movies. Obviously, if you're in that area looking for the one (POTC) you may happen to see the other - that would be the logic of it. Still, it would also make more sense to feature many similar movies on an endcap. Anyway, spent too many years of working in retail previuosly, so I forget sometimes that not everyone understands that mind set

But by your way of thinking, people would be no more likely to find the movie in "Comedy" - unless they already knew the movie, and were looking specifically for it.

Took a peek at this last night... and I think the DVDBeaver review was kind. Hazy, overly-dark, grainy. It's a pretty lazy tranfer. Better than the DVD-R I recorded from cable, but just barely.

I love the back cover: "Mastered in High Definition". Yeah, that baby is going to look just lovely on blu-ray.

If anyone wants a "special feature" of sorts, the comic book Solo #11 came out yesterday and features a story by Sergo Aragones (of Mad Magazine) talking about how he may have killed Marty Feldman during the filming of "YellowBeard."
