I'm not quite understanding the one that is just the poster and the DVD from Wild Things...of course they're the same!

There are a few things going on here
1.) One are B-Movies that obviously ape well known movies to confuse, ahem attract, video store rentals.
2.) The second is the cult of personality around some actors - Cruise, Cage, etc. The movie is marketed as a safe decision basedo on the success of his/her previous movies.
3.) Some movies are just cheap ass jobs where people's ideas are stolen - Parenthood, Problem Child etc.

Well, I thought the Problem Child cover was a play on the Parenthood cover.
Yeah, we see a lot of covers that are either intentionally ripping off or paying homage to the other covers/posters.

I'm with time to kill again. Whats amazing is how many similar covers there are, but then again, there is only so much space to work with and so many ways you can work it...

No, that's good - looks like the same guy made both covers - even used the same font for the titles.

Not quite as similar as I first thought, when seeing them in the store in separate places, but still very close.

Great thread, but it's really sad to see such a lack of creativity. I collect classic movie posters, and man some of the European ones ( I'm looking at you Poland) are out of this world.
These posters are just like today's movies...cheap market driven drivel without any creativity.
Sad....yet funny.
