I just went to order this on Amazon.Ca since I have a $5 coupon for them I need to use and this is what their site says about Duel - This title will be released on February 1, 2004. You may order it now and we will ship it to you when it arrives.

Hey, guys - I didn't make it clear. I bought the disc at HMV physically and have the disc on hand. Therefore it is a puzzle to me why all the web stores put it as a future release.
IT IS RELEASED!!!!!!!

I have my copy. It's a superb transfer: sharp; clean; well saturated colours and no noticeable EE.
The original mono is in good shape, and the 5.1 remixes have all-new foley for what seems every sound effect. But the Dolby 5.1 mix is very good. I don't have DTS, but I ASSume that it is more or less the same mix.
The interviews with Spielberg total 44 minutes and 9 minutes with Matheson and are excellent.
A superb package from Universal - they sound be proud of it. There marketing/distribution on the other hand...
Err... bring on SCARFACE!

Great transfer and the extras are really good as well. I hope they clear up the release delay with this one.

Did you try Ebay? A few sellers are selling Duel for a reasonable price. But it's hard to say how long that is going to last if there is only a limited supply.

I was lucky enough to find one that was selling for only about $12 (one of those buy now items)

AMAZON cancelled my order today. Bastards!
Went on eBay and got a BIN for about $17.
Anyone have a theory on what's going on here? How do some get out and then everything else cancelled? Is this like the first release of 'Little Shop Of Horrors'?

i passed on duel, $19.99 too much.
Didn't hit any chain stores, but i think some should be out there

VERY INTERESTING!!!!
This should tell us that it WAS PRODUCED and had been shipping to retailers, and that for SOME REASON - maybe the reason noted on the first page of this thread - that Universal decided to hold it back.
VERY INTERESTING!
So, I wonder how happy the retailers with 1,000 or more copies on their storeroom shelves are about this?!

Consider yourself a lucky Bas***d if you got this. I found this on the Digital Bits site :
In the meantime, we've uncovered a major snafu involving Universal's on-again, off-again DVD release of Steven Spielberg's Duel. The title, which had been expected to ship last month, was pulled from the slate by Universal. But at least a few of those people who pre-ordered the disc on Amazon.com actually received their copies. Now, Amazon is saying that the title is not currently available. DVD Planet is reporting an 8/12 street date, but Universal's press site has no new street date confirmation. So if you're one of the few who got your hands on the disc, hang on tight... you may have a collector's item. We'll post an update when new information becomes available.
