What happened in Santa Monica was obviously a tragedy but the Aug 12th date was announced a while ago and I didn't even know among the deceased was someone from the Weaver family until someone posted it on this thread..

I could undertsand if the girl was in the movie but she's not so I think they should not have postponed the release date..again..that's all i'm sayin

That can't be the reason they cancelled it. That's the lamest thing i've ever heard of.

Not that i was overly excited about it, and doubt i'd ever have picked it up- unless i found it cheap and used..

it's the best spielberg film by far, but that's not saying much.

Your compassion is overwhelming. It's still close family of the movie's star, that's all. And if Dennis Weaver asked for a short delay, Universal was just being mensch-ey and respected his wished.

So you have to wait a couple more months to see this movie on DVD. So what? Your loss pales somewhat compared to the Weaver family.

Universal bashing time

SO let me get this straight, Universal now is cancelling Duel for the second time and have not even put out the corrected versions of the BACK to the Future set on shelves AND not including the original hour documentary on the new Scarface DVD..................Jezuz UNIVERSAL.........................................................New Line, Columbia, Warner Bros. Rock on.....................

The proximity in time of this delay to the death of Lynne-Ann Weaver makes this the most logical explanation.
No it doesn't. Its a coincidence, this title has been pulled before, something is probably going on with rights issues because of the way the movie was funded (I think it was kind part TV show, part movie kinda)

Um.....no that is not really enough said so please explain. Anyone using an opinion and backing up that opinion with 'nuff said to validate their statement obviously has no intelligent statement to make in relation to the ridiculous statement above. If that is your opinion....fine. Someone has asked you a question about your statement and wishes further explanation so please enlighten us with why you feel Spielberg has little talent. Are you a major motion picture director?

it's strictly an opinion call,

so yes that would suffice..

while i'm sure if i was brought to court, i could prove the man has no talent, but who really cares

go ahead and love the man who brought us Hook, i could care less..

catch me if you can was crap, private ryan, puh-lease., schindler's list . blah, it's not like the man is bringing anything new and forefront to motion pictures, he's making mass appeal films, that's only reason for the household name and millions of dollars.

his films require very little thought, and i think a grade schooler could break his films down very easily

TWO trolls are now pulling the collective chain of DVD Talk.

There's no possible HUMAN way these two S.S. haters can be serious.

For...Show me a person who can TRULY HATE "Jaws", and I'll show you an alien being from a dying planet.

It's NOT PHYSICALLY or EMOTIONALLY possible to dislike this film. No way. No how. I've tried. Can't be accomplished.

Just for reference, who are some good directors with some good movies?

time for shill666 to actually read posts, my initial post was indeed about the above thread

the only threadcrap posted was by you, in the others i was merely answering questions asked, if you ask me ( and by the definitions on that page) those are threadcraps, not mine

so please, go pop in the Hook dvd, and leave such matters to someone who knows what they are saying, OR actually read ALL the posts

as to the other 2 questions, i'd like to answer, but shill might think it's threadcrap- and call out forum police..

but yes, i like Jaws, I don't LOVE jaws, i don't even think it's the best film with a shark, and it's not among my 400 dvd's --so it shows you how much i like it.

directors i like? hmmm- i can be safe and mention welles, ford, kurosawa, chaplain, keaton, griffith, all of which i like, but i like Jarmusch, waters, jack hill, george romero, carpenter, tarantino, pt anderson, and lots more too, too tough to narrow down..

and no i don't own 1 spielberg film.

and for more threadcrap, TCM is probably my favorite film of all-time, but will agree with anyone in saying Tobe Hopper is a joke as director

I've got a sneaking suspicion that we're gonna read about a Post Office massacre at feag's branch tomorrow morning.

Anyway, you've got to respect everybody's opinion...even a person who likes Texas Chainsaw Massacre much, much better than those hideously-grotesque titles like Schindler's, Color Purple, E.T., SPR, CEOTTK, Raiders, and Jurassic Park.

Makes crystal clear sense to me.

good try PavidVD

and i wouldn't even try to compare texas chainsaw massacre with any spielberg film.

what film did schindlers list influence? how about the color purple? hell even raiders of the lost ark- which come on, you even call that his baby?

TCM has influenced a GREAT NUMBER of films, and will continue to influence films for years to come..

let's see if they make a schindlers list remake in 20 years?

boring

ohhhh, i wonder who could play tinkerbell in the Hook remake, i'm looking forward to that one

sad fact is, spielbergs films are more of the " 'cough' 'cough" ripoffs themselves.. i.e. saving private ryan

Quoted for emphasis.

This thread is about the release of the Duel DVD... not how good the movie is, or how good the director of the movie is, or any other topic. Let's stay on topic.

My order at Amazon hasn't changed to reflect this information about Duel being postponed. Has anyone had this title cancelled/put on hold?

If only Spielberg had a little more Joel Schumacher in him.

Spielberg has 2 Oscars for Best Director. Yes, I am right about that one.

I know Batman & Robin only improved how terrific the action genre is, but something tells me people will be referring to Saving Private Ryan as one of the greatest war movies for a very long time. In fact, that movie's greatness gets mentioned every year on many shows and online movie sites.

Has anyone had this title cancelled/put on hold?
Yes.
My DVD Empire order has been changed from August 12 to "TBA". However, it was NOT removed from the Empire Shopping Cart. It's just on hold, but was not cancelled from order.

Empire (unlike some people we know -- *mumbles "Universal"* ) provided me with not one, but two, e-mails, telling about the Duel delay. .........

>> "We have just received word that the Duel: Special Edition that was slated to street 8/12/2003 has been delayed yet once again. There is no word as to why this happened but we will move the title to TBA so that your order will be held in place. We will let you know if and when a new date is announced. We apologize for this and thank you for your patience.
DVD Empire

------------------------------------------------------

>> "We have just been informed by the studio that the
release date for 'Duel: Collector's Edition' has been changed
to TBA.

TBA = To Be Announced (No Release Date Specified Yet)

Your order has been kept in place and will be processed
normally. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have
caused.

Universal can release American Pie in 6 different forms (Wide and Full Rated, Wide and Full Unrated, Ultimate, and now with "Beneath the Crust"dvd) but they can't release Duel once.

So sad...
