"Fluff." Sure, whatever helps you sleep at night.
That BBC documentary was good. The Legacy documentary was superb. A new cut of Alien. A much longer, new cut of Alien 3. And that barely scratches the surface.
I think this set will be the release of the year (Mind you, I don't yet believe it is coming out THIS year, but that is another post............................)

I figure an uncut version can't make people hate it more than they already do and it'd make for a very interesting "extra".

Will the cut of Aliens be the DC that they once made?

Saw this on digitalbits:
Part III - Inside the Alien Quadrilogy
We take a look at the hard work involved in putting together a great DVD special edition. Our friends at Twentieth Century Fox have allowed us to go behind-the-scenes on the making of their forthcoming, 9-disc Alien Quadrilogy special edition box set. We've done an extensive, in-depth interview with DVD producer Charles de Lauzirika, in which you'll learn about the process of producing, the exciting and never-before-seen extras included on the set, the participation of the actors, directors and other talent, and the creation of new special edition versions of the films. You'll also learn about the effort to reconstruct the original cut of Alien³, and the new special effects work that was required to finish deleted scenes for Alien, Alien³ and Alien: Resurrection. And that's just for starters. We also interview Alien director Ridley Scott, reveal interesting production facts and stats, take you behind-the-scenes on a typical audio commentary session with cast members and more. This section also features all-new, behind-the-scenes photos of the work and those involved.

I was talking to my friend who works at Fox and he told me he seriously doubts the Alien movies will be released this year on dvd. He works on the box office side and not home video so he's not positive. The reason he believes it's not going to come out this year is because they plan to rerelease Aliens in the movie theaters towards the end of the year. They wouldn't release the dvd the same time it's going to be in the theater. In fact, he believes the original box set was pulled just so they can rerelease it in the theater.
And the comments about the 4th movie being longer was true. I was working at Fox at the time and saw some of the dailys and read the script. I would have to say the stuff they cut was a lot of fluff and wasn't missed.

I seem to remember buying some other Fox DVD (Stargate UE?)and getting an insert in it which stated the Alien box set WOULD be out later in 2003.
Not that the sutdio couldn't go back on their word, but false advertising sucks.

Alien has been scheduled to open Oct. 31 for some time so I would think Fox wouldn't have scheduled it that way, plus made ads for the DVD box set date this year if they couldn't do it. I still feel this could come out this year in time for xmas and while the hype is going after the release of the movie in Oct.

Thanks for keeping us update..It would me much appreciated!..I would the entire box set just for a Cameron commentary

I agree with others how can they NOT release it this year after basically promising at nauseum the past 6 months it was coming out..They would look pretty foolish IMO..and lose a lot of pre xmas business.

Also, I can't remember where exactly I heard this from, but some people at Fox were unhappy that the insert was released since it was jumping the gun, so to speak. The rumors this might not make it until 2004 only make it more likely that was the case.

I think the insert regarding a 2003 release was in one of the Buffy season sets (S3 maybe?) Given the theaterical release I wouldn't be surprised if it was moved to 2004 especially since studios are firming up December releases already and no frim official date and specs have been announced for this set.

They may miss the pre-Christmas rush for DVD orders, but there's no way there'll be making less $$ overall for re-releasing this in theaters first.
Oh, well. At least this does seem like it's going to eventually happen, anyway.

I suppose I'm following a bit blind, but I think it'll be out by the end of the year.
Seems to me that if ALIEN is getting re-released in theatres, it would be an excellent opportunity for Fox to ka-ching ka-ching on the DVD set. The promotional tie-ins on the re-release would be key, not to mention the Insider's Guide to DVD book that's coming out in the next couple of months, which details many aspects of the creation of this release, is going to make hordes of people want to buy the set. Fox needs to put this set out in time for Christmas in order to not mess this opportunity up.
Of course, that's all said because I'm a huge fan of the series, and holding on to the hope that it'll be out soon.
