Don't know if anyone has mentioned this:

www.dvdanswers.com

they have a list of the features that have passed certification from
the BBFC. Look in the Region 2 column.

Ok, so does anyone know for sure whether or not the original cut of Alien will also be in this box?

Ummm... sure you can. The 'Alien mythos'?!? It's just a movie.

You can't comprehend how someone can love a movie, but hate the sequels? Sequels which came YEARS later and did not have the participation of the creators of the first film? Seems like a pretty simple concept to me.

I think there are more people out there who dismiss the last two films in the series than there are people who don't...

What was teh "Alien Legacy" feature? Was that the disk you had to mail out for on the original boxset release, or was that the special they ran on tv a few months ago?
Yes, it's the mail-away documentary. Although, if it's true that Alien is getting a 3-hour documentary (!), I'm not sure why they couldn't have included all/most of the interviews and other material in that.

The AMC TV documentary is "The Alien Saga" -- which covers all 4 films. That is being released on DVD separately by Image Entertainment on 10/14.

From the sound of the featuers on the new discs, it'll include all of the info that was on the Legacy disc and then some.

According to the Digital Bits on September 9, 2003 the ALIEN LEGACY mail-away bonus disc will NOT BE INCLUDED in the upcoming set due to space limitations. I don't know what the limitations would be with 9 discs, but that is what has been reported, and the Digital Bits has gotten a behind the scenes look at the new Alien set.

I recommend all fellow dvd talk members and collectors think twice (or at least consider the pros and cons) before selling or getting rid of that rare, hard to find documentary disc. I am definitely keeping mine for the time being.

I was hopeing the ALIEN LEGACY mail-away bonus disc would be part of the set. You would think that a 9 disk set would include this hard to find dvd as a feature also. Not that i'm complaining but it would be nice if it was a part of the set, or at least another mail-away bonus if we buy this great new set.

but is it really worth the upgrade?

1) Alien.. first disc was awesome... do I really need to see the deleted scenes that Ridley Scott himself said destroyed the pacing of the film incorporated?
2) Aliens. Theatrical cut... great
3) Alien3.. As far as I can tell this is NOT a director's cut, but an expanded version of the movie.. TV studios have done this in the past (halloween, godfather, etc.) where they pad the film with deleted scenes to fit a specific time slot. has the potential to make a not-great film even worse
4) Alien 4. ok, so I am in the minority that this is the one I enjoy the most (don't ask).. however, the infamous missing 20 minute scene near the end of the film will NOT be include.. instead NEW beginning and ending footage will be added.....eh

as far as the 2nd discs of each movie - seem like a lot of fluff and filler to me...

Obviously if I didn't have the first pressing I wouldn't hesitate to get these... but is it worth upgrading???

not sure

Alien.. first disc was awesome... do I really need to see the deleted scenes that Ridley Scott himself said destroyed the pacing of the film incorporated?
Exactly. This re-release of Alien is just a money grab pure and simple. From previous posts, Ridley is going in and deleting "original theaterical material" to make room for some of the deleted scenes.

I don't understand the point. especially in Scott's commentary from Alien that he views the original theaterical cut as the definitive edition. The deleted stuff was interesting, but doesn't add that much.

The whole appeal of this set was the includion of Alien Legacy and Saga. Now it seems like both will be missing from the set, and a new documentary is taking its place. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing, but the set is less appealing to me at this point.

Alien 3 and 4, I don't likey too much.

Those features are proposed extras and are incomplete at best. Read the long thread at HTF about the 9 Disc Alien set.

complete movie box sets are lame. Marketing should understand they would make more money selling the movies individually as well as the box set.

I guess i'll never own alien and aliens, cause I won't buy this expensive set of filler just to get two movies.

    Hi shanester,

As I understand it there WILL be a James Cameron commentary track included on "Aliens". The following quote is an extract from the article about the Quadrilogy box set in the UK's Total Film magazine. (October 2003 cover date)

"while Aliens includes both commercially released versions of the film and, for the first time, Cameron chips in with a commentary."

    Best Regards,
    KBDVD.

    So what is this documentary?

    Bonus Disc
    Alien Evolution BBC Documentary (75m)
This sounds like a lot of stuff. So what exactly is in the Alien Saga disk and Alien Legacy Bonus disks that are not in the list above?

No one *knows* yet. True, some items have been passed by the BBFC for possible inclusion, but no official features list is available. We do know that it will NOT include the Alien Legacy documentary, as on the bonus disc of the first release. Aside from that, NOTHING ELSE is known.

We'll all just have to wait and see.

this may be off the topic, but....

i read elsewhere about a rumor that the R2 release of Alien Quadrilogy will be a LIMITED EDITION release numbering only 130,000 units. Can anyone verify this rumor and if so, will the same be done with the R1 release? If the R1 release is a limited release, how will online DVD retailers (amazon, dvdplanet, etc.) handle the possible demand on pre-orders? Just worried about getting my copy.
