Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

The DVD waves of the past few months have all been similar - lacking big studio content for the most part and a heavy reliance on junk from indie distributors. It's evident to me that Dollar Tree must have bought Echo Bridge's entire DVD backstock for pennies on the dollar.

Picked up a couple of DVDs at a Dollar Tree B&M I hadn't been to in a while.

John Dies At The End (2012)
Power of Greyskull: The Definitive History of He‑Man and the Masters of the Universe (2017)

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

My store had another wave of titles.

Picked up a few just for their cases - Black Friday is coming.

And three for watching; "Power Of Grayskull" (finally found one), "Terror Tales" and "Termination".

This is the first time their rack was so full, they had spillage around it. Granted a lot of it is garbage, there are some interesting stuff in there.

Something while writing this up... "Dollar Tree" sounds a bit like "idolatry", suppose that nothing.

Yea seen videos on youtube how they get a mix of decent and garbage media of big lables and independant studios have made dvd overtime. i have so much good stuff not seen or watched i run out of space for now so gotta be more selective what i get any now days. since i dont rush to dt like before cause waves hit stores anytime so i went recent got like 4 dvd compared to get bag full before.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

I just haven't found a lot of compelling content in the latest waves and it's likely to get worse in 2022. Dollar Tree used to get most of the leftover Walmart inventory but that well is severely drying up.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

We disagree. It's a mix; some good (including indie flicks) and fodder titles. It's different, not entirely garbage.

Stumbled on this thread and forum while searching for "You Might Be the Killer". Did some reading and catching up and now I need to hit some of the local DTs by me, I think there's 5 or 6. The rare ones that include the digital code, are those codes usually still good?

It's always a crapshoot and heavily depends on your regional location. Most stock are leftovers from Walmart distribution facilities. A couple years ago before Covid, the DVD and Blu-ray drops at Dollar Tree were more predictable and would usually sell out quickly. Nowadays each location seemingly decides on their own when to put them out.

Dollar Tree has been having severe problems finding staffing since the pandemic. A few stores around me have been closed in the middle of the day because no one was available.

I'm in Southern California; none of the stores near me have had this issue.

There are four of them.

Went back earlier today - now yesterday.

Looking for more cases. Nope.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Walked into a store today and found a huge Black Friday display that appeared to be untouched. I could tell it was for BF because the boxes containing the discs said 11/26/21 on them. At this particular store, the display was a full end cap from top to bottom. That apparently wasn't enough space because there a couple of boxes at the end of a checkout lane as well. I'd say 85-90% were DVDs. And of course some of what I found we've seen before.

Here's what I bought on DVD. A number of MGM titles, most all are blind buys:

Boxcar Bertha
Canadian Bacon
Crisscross
The Double (Eisenberg)
Hector and the Search for Happiness
Lars and the Real Girl
The Love Punch
Shadows and Fog
Stanley & Iris
Tom & Jerry Tales: Vol. 1
Tom & Jerry Tales: Vol. 6

And I paid $1.25 for each of these. :( I would imagine all stores are receiving their shipment this week and it's just a matter of whether they put them out now or hold them.

Also bought some BDs. Those are listed in the appropriate thread.

Nice! Stanley & Iris is worth a few bucks as it's out-of-print. If Crisscross is the Goldie Hawn film, it's worth money too!

I guessing if media is now 1.25 then stores are slowly charging more for media like other stuff in store. it may cause some or many to buy less or just think they are 2 bucks now cause tax crap if any.

"Breakin & Breakin 2"; yes I would like a copy.

I wonder if there's any Midnite Movies in the lot?

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

The MGM titles seemed to licensed from them by Deuce Entertainment L.L.C.. The DVDs are perfectly acceptable- image is fine on the 2 I checked ("Murphy's Law" & "Breakin'"); but are strictly barebones.

The seem to like Cannon Films and, oddly, Woody Allen ("Radio Days"; "Shadows and Fog"; "Stardust Memories"- which was a favorite in my youth)- there's probably 20 or so different titles I've seen the crop up at DT the past few months... and who can complain for a buck?

MooMooMooMoo 11-27-21 02:26 AM

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

I've got MOST of the Woody's. There's a couple I still need factory pressed copies of, + a couple of the recent ones. I bought 2 or 3 of the dvd boxes. I was thinking of the UK blu boxes (before shipping costs from the UK became insane) but never bit.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Drop by my local DT yesterday and bought mostly Blu-rays and 2 DVDs.
Did not look through all the movies but the DVDs I bought were.
Justice League Action 2 disc.
H2O Just add water: Season 3 . Probably crap, but $1 crap.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

I went to two DT's about 3pm on Black Friday. One of them still didn't have the dvds on the shelves although I spotted the boxes on one of the many carts that are always loaded up with boxes and on the floors at DT. The second store looked as if nobody had even dug through them yet, only a couple were missing from the cut boxes and all still neatly within. This was a larger DT that also sells $2-5 items, there must have been about sixteen total boxes, only one of which was of blu-rays. Didn't buy any b-r but spotted several Star Trek movies, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, and Fences along with many obscure titles.

I bought
Kid Galahad - Elvis Presley
Shadows and Fog
Florence Foster Jenkinds - Streep, Hugh Grant
Stanley and Iris - Fonda, De Niro
Under Fire - Nick Nolte, Hackman,
Jack Hunter movie - Ivan Sergei (apparently a Indiana Jones knockoff, there was also a second title in this series but just bought one)

A month ago I picked up Radio Days and New York New York at DT, saw RD again as well as several other Woody Allen movies (Zelig, Stardust Memories, Another Woman) interesting they all soft-peddle Allen's involvement in them, he's not named on the cover or the large print on the back cover. Movies I already had and saw include

Moll Flanders - Morgan Freeman
Lions for Lambs - Redford, Streep, Cruise (bought years ago at Big Lots and still haven't watched)

Other titles included Indecent Proposal, many Star Trek movies, Sesame Street titles, Dr. Who titles (alas no BBC nature titles as in the past) movies starring Chris Rock, Charles Bronson, Dustin Hoffman, etc.

By the way, they are all still a buck at this store, not 1.25 - perhaps some stores up the price on pre-BF sales in the register.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

I just visited 6 Dollar Trees here in AZ (on the search to pick up 12 or more copies of Luther). I managed to find 13. These Dollar Trees are still selling merchandise for $1.

I also picked up 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag, Gotti [BR] (was defective), and Freakonomics [BR].

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

I went to a pair of Dollar Tree stores several states away on Friday. Those stores were still $1, though at one I heard an employee talking about how all stores would be shifting soon.

Went to my local store today and found several of the DVD/BD boxes had been moved to another shelf. I glanced through them quickly and found/bought a couple I don't recall seeing previously: The Locusts and Scorpio.

PhantomStranger 12-04-21 10:29 PM

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Finally came across a location with the Black Friday DVDs - Out of seven boxes, I'd estimate there were less than 10-15 BDs. I got Vampire's Kiss on DVD (old Nic Cage movie) and a couple Christmas movies on DVD starring Natasha Henstridge and Cindy Busby.

I did see 3 copies of Ip Man 3 on Blu-ray.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

My place is now 1.25 but i think eventually all stores be 1.25 or more but saw a shelf say 60 cents for can goods so it gonna fluctuate or change depend on what u get now. i even saw cds by chance lol which i saw those years ago and got any i wanted but this time was none i cared to get at time. so since prices have changed i see they are starting to get more variety worth a grab any if u want at time for any reason. might get a cd i saw and checkd but can try get next trip if still there by chance. so maybe they start getting better selection of media to score in the next wave any. so lack of space cause me be more selective what i get anytime now.

Visited a couple of DT stores in the area this evening.

Ended up buying a bunch of DVDs from Uncork'd Entertainment, which (surprisingly) picked up distribution for quite a few Horror films that I've seen on the Festival Circuit over the past few years.

Picked up:

DVD

Abominable (2020)
The Child Remains (2017)
Coven (2020)
Hunting Grounds (2015)
The Jurassic Games (2018)
Lifechanger (2018)
Mary (2019)
Monolith (2016)
Monstrous (2020)
The Redwood Massacre (2014)
St. Agatha (2018)

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

If you're interested, more media was apparently put out at stores recently. I noticed a store yesterday had a 2 small boxes on an endcap. A different store today had an entire front display filled.

All BDs I noticed were repeats from earlier waves. There were some new DVDs, specifically MGM titles. I bought The Purple Rose of Cairo and Zelig. I also picked up season 7 of a show called Royal Pains. Both stores also had some CDs. When I was digging through them, I found a Michael McDonald "This Christmas-Live in Chicago" concert disc. Upon closer inspections, it's a DVD in a case which is a little bigger than the traditional CD case.

Just came back from my nearest store. That was EASILY the greatest selection I've seen from Dollar Tree yet! So much Shudder stuff! Came back with:

VFW
Prevenge
Sherlock Holmes collection
One Cut of The Dead
Stardust Memories (The only Woody movie I've been looking for!)

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

My local store had stuff out that I hadn't seen before.

Picked up:

Another Woman
Hawaii
Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her
Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce: Season 1
Good Witch: Season 3
Mr. Show: Season 4

All of these were complete blind buys. There were only a few BDs in the mix, and they were repeats.

Edit: Just realized I bought Another Woman in 2018 at a Half Price Books. And I got it cheaper than the $1.25 I paid today.

Stopped at another store today and saw much of the same.

Was pleased to find a single copy of Justified: Season 2.

Also saw a single copy of The Hitchhiker (the '80s HBO series) Season 1

I pretty much agree with you--it's a fantastic drop (although I think the Black Friday drop from 2020 was slightly better). Other Shudder titles that I saw:

Belzebuth
Z
Yummy
Tigers Are Not Afraid
The Pale Door
The Nightshifter
Mon Mon Mon Monsters!
Deadtectives
