Dollar Tree DVDs

I looked for a Dollar Tree general DVD thread and could not find one (other threads delt only with MGM, CMT or horror DVDs) so just decided to make one.

Went into my local Dollar Tree yesterday and they had put out some new DVDs. None of these were from the assortments listed in the above threads. Along with the usual crap you expect to find in places like these, they also had a mix of DVDs from several different companies:

Universal:
Far From Home
K-Pax,
Van Helsing London Assignment
The Shrink Is In
(starring Courteney Cox)
Playing For Keeps (starring Marisa Tomei and Directed by Bob & Harvey Weinstein)

Kevin Smith Presents: Now You Know (Weinstein) (Directed by Jeff Anderson aka Randal from "Clerks")
High Roller (New Line)
Innocence (Columbia TriStar)
Last Wedding (Platinum)
Shaking The Tree (Sterling) starring Courteney Cox
Facing Fear (Volocity Home Ent.) Starring Dean Cain and Talisa Soto
The Anarchist Cookbook (Screen Media Films)

Also had several of the Bazooka Classic Bubble Toons DVDs of Superman, Betty Boop and The New 3 Stooges. If you have a local Dollar Tree, you may want to stop by and take a look.

Thanks- for a buck I might have to upgrade my laserdisc of Playing For Keeps in spite of its mediocrity. They must have printed more copies of KPax than there were DVD players- I got that for under 2 bucks at Wal-Mart one Black Friday, and it's been a mainstay at Big Lots for a few years.

Hit a couple of Dollar Trees today. One had a few DVDs, the most noteworthy title being Far From Heaven (that might be what the OP meant by "Far From Home")...now I feel ripped off that I got that one from Big Lots for $3 within the last year or 2. :)

I stopped off at a Dollar Tree this evening, remembering this thread. Absolutely buried from sight on a bottom shelf were stacks of DVDs - mostly the Universal and Screen Media films mentioned above.

In addition to what's already been listed, I saw:

Smile (Screen Media)
Shirley Temple Little Darling Pack (Universal Franchise Collection)
Romancing the Bride

I picked up Hitcher II, Darkman II, and Van Helsing: London Assignment. Not bad for 3 bucks and change. I'll watch them.

Saw a few of the above, plus Sherry Baby.

I've got a Dollar Tree opening up in the same plaza as my work next week so I'll have to check it out.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Picked up Darkman 2, Hitcher 2 & Soderbergh's Underneath, which I don't believe was mentioned before.

As an FYI, all the Universal titles I saw had slashed UPC's. For a buck I could care less, but if you do, heads up.

I started last year's thread about the Dollar Tree MGM/UA dvds since it appeared my local store had them out early but this new batch has not shown up here yet. Given how few posts are on this thread as opposed to the old one, wonder if this is more on a limited or regional area?

Picked up Now You Know at the Milford, MA store tonight.

Also, I noticed that they had this copy of Party Girl, which is odd in that this DVD was released by Lions Gate, while the only copies I found on dvdempire were both released by Sony.

I suppose it may be a Canadian release, but I didn't pick it up as the artwork looked really crummy (almost photocopied), and the title on the spine was upside down.

I picked one up. Disc is a bad black and white print job. Cover insert looks laser printed. Has to be a boot. I wonder how these got into a legit store?

The DVD itself works fine, has a menu with a couple extras, no glitches.

That DVD is was one of the first ever released, about 15 years ago. That might explain the poor production design. I've seen old Warner DVDs were the pics on the back cover are so low-res that you can see pixels.

All I saw at mine was public domain crap and a DVD on how to mix drinks

I will have to check them out. Usually they have just public domain garbage.

I am not picky, but as I remember it is not bad at all, nothing distracting to me.

Interesting. The case is flimsy, no security strips. And the black and white disc art looks smeared. If it is the real deal I would be surprised. But I guess it is possible.

If this is a factory release, I would think a serious fan of this movie would definitely want the 2003 reissue.

It really is a YMMV type of thing.

My local town has two Dollar Tree's. One has a whole bunch of these titles. In fact they just restocked, Same titles though, nothing new. Their DVD/CD area is jam packed.

The one on the other side of town has a pitiful selection. What's weird is that it's a newer store.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

cool, Dollar Tree finally getting some halfway decent titles in. Maybe they'll ramp it up and it'll be the new Golden Age like Big Lots was last summer... Except ONE FREAKING DOLLAR.

You gotta dream, baby!

Where are you located?

Many of the Dollar Tree and 99 cent store deals seem to be regional and it would be helpful if those that find them, would post their city.

Bolingbrook, Illinois.

The DT near Best Buy is the one where the selection is terrible. In fact I went their today and they had a total of about 7 DVDs. That's it.

The one on the east side of town near Walmart has a much better selection.

I think it was last year when people were finding Eagle Vision music DVDs at Dollar Tree, but I checked several times and never found any in my area. Have found a few decent DVDs during the past month though.

I was glad to see some of these titles finally showing up at my local Dollar Tree. I picked up Now You Know and Thunderbirds. And I think I should go back and get Spaceman: A Baseball Odyssey, a documentary on former Boston Red Sox pitcher Bill "Spaceman" Lee.

Every time I quit checking Dollar Tree, someone mentions a title I'd like to have. I'll have track down that Lee documentary. Thanks for mentioning it, Rexxriot.

While I don't want to discourage you from looking, I think it's possible that Spaceman might only be in Boston (or New England)-area Dollar Trees. I noticed it in a big bin in the front of the store with a couple of Red Sox DVDs, Faith Rewarded and History Rings True, and not with the other DVDs. Of course, they could have just decided to put it up there because it was baseball related.

Anybody else finding DVDs by a company called TUTM?

I found the following titles in Orlando...
"Alfred Hitchcock Collection Vol One: Sabotage"
"Alfred Hitchcock Collection Vol One: The 39 Steps"
"The Screaming Skull" ( some other old horror titles also )
"Bail Out" ( with David Hasselhoff & Linda Blair - lol )... FYI: it's censored...

They also had some nature type dvds by the same company.

I went to TUTM's official website, and looked at their cyber-catalog for their 2010 dvds. One of their titles is called "The Perfect Nanny". I did some research, and it seems they are the only company that offers this flick on region one dvd ( probably censored ).

I also noticed they had an "Ed Wood: Vol One" listed in their cyber-catalog.

I've searched a couple of Dollar Trees, but I have not been able to find either of these titles.

Most of the Dollar Trees in my area seem to be stocking up for halloween and most of these dvds are horror / thriller titles.

I also noticed some music dvds.

I found a Kidsongs CD from TUTM that included a DVD of the TV show of the same name, that was it from them.

The Dollar Tree where I live had no movies, just music DVDs. At least they weren't ones that were just 3 or 4 videos on a disc that was used to be bundled with some CD like at Target or Walmart.

I picked up:

VH1 Storytellers: Alanis Morissette
Atlantic Records: The House That Ahmet Built
Barenaked Ladies: Barelaked Nadies
Time Again...Amy Grant Live
Norman Granz Jazz In Montreux Presents Mary Lou Williams '78

Dollar Tree stores are very hit-miss for me. Knollwood (St. Louis Park, MN.)=Nada. Eden Prairie, MN. had a bunch. I picked up multiple "Atlantic Records: The House That Ahmet Built" and saw several of the Genius "Bazooka Joe" animation sets (Superman, Betty Boop, Stooges) but passed. (I wonder how chewable the free gum is in the DVDs?)

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

I was told by a Dollar Tree manager the DVDs rarely make it to the floors anymore as the employees usually pick things over and buy them right as they come in. Not shocking considering there's a local store where you can trade the stuff for at least $2 a disc or more if you take in store credit.
