I've tried a few times to no success.

Monterey Pop Blu-ray for $17.50 and The Exterminating Angel for $13 is a pretty good deal for in-store.

The 15% off coupon doesn't appear to have stayed on after both $5 off coupons, but I'm glad I could use a $5 for each item.

Went to my local B&N today, got a membership and I was able to use two $5 coupons when purchasing two Crtierions:

Army of Shadows - $13 plus tax
The Friends of Eddie Coyle - $8.50 plus tax

Looks like The Third Man Blu-ray is out of stock again.

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10

Scanned thread, may have missed it, but for those contemplating a substantial purchase, BN.com is offering a free $10 gift certificate if you buy $100 in gift cards. The promo is plainly spelled out on the gift card page at BN.com. The deal does not require a coupon code. The gift cards are mailed to you (site says ship in 1-2 days---that should be time enough to receive them before the sale ends. One catch: the $10 GC is emailed to you, but not until Dec. 26th.

Pretty sure none of the usual discounts (AAA, BN membership, BN coupons) will apply to gift card purchases. But, if you use the B&N cashback link at FW when you buy the cards, you do get 8% back on your $100 gift card purchase---so after that and the $10 GC, your net is $118 worth of credit at Barnes & Noble for a cash outlay of $100.

Bing offers an even bigger 12% cashback at B&N, but not on purchases of gift cards. (Not sure, but you might be able to get 12% via Bing if you redeem the giftcards online---YMMV on that).

I have had great experiences at the B&N locations in metro Atlanta. The employees are always friendly, and the folks I dealt with in Buckhead and Roswell are fans of these films themselves.. which is nice.

Thanks for pointing that out!

I was wondering why the price was lower than the DVD set, but I was sure the one I had said it was the 2 disc set. Now that I look at it it's only the single disc. So I'll be returning it tomorrow and I'll make sure I get the 15% off this time too.

bought

Howard's End (bluray)
Monsoon Wedding (bluray)

had to order online in store for a copy of 'Wings of Desire' (bluray) - the cashier lady couldn't locate a copy at any of the other DC/VA/MD stores, and it was nice to pay Virginia tax and not DC's since it's a little more

yes it is, but I'm really kind of shocked how the bluray looks I've watched random scenes and it looks nothing like the 70mm engagement I saw at the AFI Silver, of course 70mm in film form, easily trumps 1080p hidef, but still, Criterion couldn't go all out and do a new transfer from a 65mm source...

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10

I just became a member online, and immediately used the T8X7V7N coupon.

Nikatsu Noir $31.49 - $5 = $26.49
Seventh Seal Blu $17.99
O Brother Where Art Thou CD $10.97 - $5 = $5.97

Subtotal: $50.45
after $5 off $50 coupon: $45.45
after tax: $48.29

I doubt I'd get the 12% Bing cashback because I used a coupon, but I tried it anyway. If I do somehow get it, the total would be around $43.

You should get the Bing cashback soon after your order processes. Shouldn't matter if you used a coupon. I've received cashback on 100% of my orders that used coupons at Bing. Latest one was Tuesday from a order placed Saturday.

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10

if there are any Grand Rapids, MI patrons here just thought i'd relate my experience tonight:

At Rivertown crossings there's an older guy who is the only one i've ever seen in the DVD section. He looked at the coupons like they were the strangest thing he'd ever seen, called a manager over, and he acted like he'd never seen them before either. reading the fine print he said "well you're only supposed to use one, but we'll let you use two today as a courtesy" - it was rather uncomfortable standing there while they both looked them over like I was trying to scam them or something...i just said "go to the BN website - they're right there in the in store coupon page"...bottom line is I got Human Condition and Wages of Fear blu for $46 out the door...so if you are heading there, I would only plan on one coupon per visit.

At the Woodland Mall store on 28th st. there was an 18ish kid running the register and he called over his 24ish hot hipster chick manager and she just said "run them as separate transactions...i'm going on break" - and he did three of them for me with no problem...Vengeance is Mine and Heaven Can Wait (xmas for the wife) for $9.01 after tax and Before the Rain for $13.78 - Needless to say i'll be returning to this store a few times since they also carry nearly the entire collection as far as I could tell. Found at least one of every eclipse set and every other box set.

I can see how this is pretty much the most dangerous case of dvd crack I've seen since the late 90s. Criterions for nine bucks? I got a blu ray, 3 discs, and Human condition for the price of Human Condition on Amazon....that's simply insane. And I get paid Friday. I'm going to have to exercise some serious restraint.

Any SW Michigan folks been to the Holland Store? I have a conference this weekend in GR so i'll be there again and will be going through Holland on my way home. Figured I'd hit all three stores to even things out a bit...i'll be returning to the 28th st. store a few times, so no need to over do it, and don't want to wear out my welcome with more than 2 or 3 at a time.

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10

Tuesday purchases:
Nikkatsu Noir (they had to get it from stockroom, wasn't shelved)
Breathless
The Spy Who Came In From The Cold
Dodes'ka-den

Wednesday's picks:
Pierrot le Fou (BD)
8 1/2
The Hit
Missing

...and I couldn't pass up Universal's 50th Anniversary "Touch Of Evil" boxset.
$26.99 list, had a 30% off sticker, so after all discounts it was $12 + tax OTD. Different managers approved multiple $5 coupon usage but each transaction did require a coupon; they kept them all.
Here in NYC they were frequently replenishing shelves from stockroom and I was told they're getting new stock regularly.

Gomorrah is the last title I'm really gunning for as well, so I'm really hoping it all works out. This is exactly how I ordered Repulsion during the last sale, purchasing it between 12:00 and 3:00 am for the discounted price. I saw somebody saying they ordered it mid-sale for the sale price, but I distinctly remembering waiting on pins and needles to see if the price would drop in time to order it.
This month's newsletter actually mentioned this and specifically stated the 11/24 releases would NOT be part of the sale:

BARNES & NOBLE 50% OFF SALE

Starting November 10, all Criterion Collection titles will be 50% off the list price at Barnes & Noble, both in stores and online. This special promotion encompasses all titles and will run until November 24. (NOTE: Titles on preorder with street dates after 11/23 are not eligible for the discount.)
was REALLY hoping to get Golden Age of Television...but I guess i can just wait 4-6 months for it

OK I think I'm done (I hope).

1st Order (In Store)

Third Man (BD)
Howard's End (BD)
Monterey Pop Festival (BD)

2nd Order (In Store)

Chunking Express (BD)
400 Blows (BD)
Kagemusha (BD)

3rd Order (Online)

Monsoon Wedding (BD)

4th Order (Online)

Playtime (BD)
Pierrot Le Fou (BD)
Repulsion (BD)

OK, the 1st step is admitting you have a problem.

11 shiny new Criterion blu's. I think I now have more on my shelf than my local B&N.

According to email from BN this morning, Wings of Desire Blu and Lady Vanishes are both delayed for shipping 1-5 business days.

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10

Order #1 (placed yesterday morning, shipping today, may receive tomorrow if it comes from a not-too-faraway warehouse):

BRD Trilogy Box
Third Man

for $53 and change shipped. Used AAA 10% discount stacked with $5 off $50 non-member coupon. Saw that some people had trouble logging in for the AAA discount yesterday, but it worked fine for me on the first try.

I see there are new account coupons out there that offer 20% off one item, which would be nice to get, but I don't know if I want to start up another account right now. I've got three running already from the last sale. Could drop my per-disc average down another $1.50-$2.00...hmmmm...

Anyway, less than $9 per disc for a 4-disc and 2-disc ain't bad at all.

Plotting a possible second order now.

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10

Well, I've made several different orders using the different coupons and have ended up with the following for a little under $375:

Rossellini's History Films
Nikkatsu Noir
Korda set
Cassavetes set
The Human Condition
Bottle Rocket (Blu-ray)
Howards End (Blu-ray)
In the Realm of the Senses (Blu-ray)
Wings of Desire (Blu-ray)
Europa
Z
Empire of Passion
Simon of the Desert
Il Generale Della Rovere
Made in USA
An Autumn Afternoon
Dodes'ka-den
The Taking of Power by Louis XIV
2 or 3 Things I Know About Her

And I think that's about it for this sale. I might pick up the Fassbinder box, and try to use a few of the $5-off coupons on a few Blu-ray discs in store, but other than that...

Oh you bastard. I was at Rivertown last night and couldn't find "The Human Condition"! Ugh. lol.

I did pick up five others though:

- Homicide
- Science Is Fiction (not sure if I'm going to keep this one)
- The Last Days of Disco
- The Seventh Seal (Blu-ray)
- Monsoon Wedding (Blu-ray)

Each of those was $13.xx including tax.

Also ordered "The Third Man" (Blu-ray) from BN.com for $15.xx. Hoping it comes in the plastic case, so it matches the other two I picked up, also in plastic cases.

Still interested in trying to find the Cassavetes set, as well as The Human Condition maybe.
