Re: Big Lots Part 4

I dont think anyone has to apologize for picking up multiple sets. I cant believe how self righteous some of the posters are getting. Its a store!! If they dont limit the purchases then feel free to pick up what you want.

Its how you grow your collection cheaply.

I have seen a LOT of deals/price mistakes over the years and have watched collectors overbuy on EVERY one of them.

I dont think you will lose money on a smallville BD at 6.00 and they will make great trade opportunities later on. There will be thousands of people just in our little community that will miss the sale or couldnt find them. Plus in about a month the prices will normalize as the glut will disappear into hands of collectors on the secondary market.

Now i am not saying to gouge fellow DVDtalkers but there has been plenty of sales i have missed like when 30 Rock was less than 10 a piece per season, OR when Amazon had those great blu ray Bond deals when you bought a lot of them at once. Having extras from a sale you found is a great way to trade for one of these sales you missed.

Just my two cents happy hunting

I've checked it out many times, but it seems like most people that have a bunch of extras to trade are only looking for stuff like Thundercats, which is nearly impossible to find for most.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Nobody's mentioned this that I've seen but my BL had 4 copies of The History of Rock. They also have quite a few Season 7 Smallville on Blu-ray.

I also have a question about the Wonder Woman Complete series people are talking about. My store has individual Seasons 2 and 3 sets. Are people finding all three seasons in one box/set? For $6?

Thanks to Basaro and B2Net for the information on SUPERFRIENDS. Sounds like a real mess, LOL.

Now if only I could get some good advice on how to get rid of these crappy I SPY individual volumes I still have besides just giving them away. ???

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Hey all, If anyone is near Connecticut the Torrington store has Dallas S1/2 and S7 sets, many copies of History of Rock and Roll, some Wonder Woman (not complete set, seasons), Night Court, many Scooby Doo, some football sets, Lakers set, Roots 30th anniv, Joey. I was there last night and they had a few out and was told the rest would be out this morning. Went and was able to pick up some Super Friends sets. Didn't pick up extras, only for my own collection. Sorry

Also went to Brisol, CT store and picked up Dallas S4, S5, S6, S8, S9, they still had a few seasons available, but mostly saw 1 or 2 of each. They had Roots The Next Generations, many Thundercats (not sure how long they will last), many Dukes of Hazzard sets, some OC and ER sets.

Hope this might help some fellow collectors in CT. There is also a BL on Berlin Tpke in Newington, but haven't been there in a while. Happy hunting.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Update for Sterling VA location:
on weekly ad they said 'merchandise available Wednesday July 15 through Sunday 19, 2009'. That's why they still had nothing when I came again today around noon, although they already put a sign 'TV DVD Boxset $6' on their DVD rack. The cashier who told me yesterday that the DVDs would be ready today ....well, maybe he actually didn't know anything about it.

Luckily went to Woodbridge, VA location this morning, and as far as I remember I saw :
Wonder Woman Complete Season and some individual seasons (limited quantities)
ER (mostly early seasons, but not really sure )
Friends Seasons 3,4,5,6,8, 9 (limited quantities)
OC (tons of them)
Knots Landing (not sure which season, very limited quantities, maybe only 1-2)
Dallas some seasons
Smallville Bluray Season 7 (around 5 copies I think), and 1 copy of standard DVD version
Full House Season 1,5, 6
Roots
Roots Next Generations (only 2, and all cases broken/bended grrrr)
Animaniacs vol.2 only (no vol. 1 at all)
Pinky & the Brain vol 1 & 2 (maybe more than 10 copies each)
Thundercats Season 1 vol 1 & 2 (maybe total only 4 copies)
Golden Collection : The Best of The New Scooby-Doo Movies and some other pack
Right Stuff 2 disc (there's some left)
The Last Samurai 2 disc (only 1, I took it)
Joey Season 1 (lots of them)
Night Court Season 1 (lots of them)
The Justice League Collection : Secret Origins, Justice on Trial, Paradise Lost
Some NFL Boxsets I didn't remember
Six Feet Under
Blade:The Series (only 1, and I saw somebody already took it)
Jamie Foxx Show: Season 1

I thought Wonder Woman Complete Seasons would be gone first at this location because I saw some other customers took 'em too (not all) before I left.

For Trevor, I already sent you PM.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Checked in at a Big Lots today that I visited last a few days ago. Similar selection still there, though I did find a Smallville, Season 4 that I hadn't noticed then. And they had added about a dozen copies of Superfriends, Vol. 2.

One thing did stand out - a tremendous increase in shoppers at the DVD display. Most days, I usually found myself alone or with one or two others around glancing at the DVDs. Today, there was 8-10 folks at the DVD displays, and many of them were "digging in" instead of the casual glances I'd usually see.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

At the moment Nightmares & Dreamscapes can be had for $6.89 shipped through Amazon Marketplace.

Just a heads up for those that might not care to bother with trading...

Re: Big Lots Part 4

All I usually find are "diggers" but since I'm one of them I cant complain

New poster(but long time lurker) chiming in that the Concord/Kannapolis NC area BL's had a good mix of stuff but mostly the easy finds
What I recall was
Concord:
WW S3
New Scooby Doo Movies
Roots:TNG
Life Goes On S1
Smallville S7 Blu (about 6 of them when I looked, I grabbed 2 and since one had a floater I went back to swap it out and there were only 2 left)
OC S2
Animaniacs S1
P&TB S1 and 2

Kannapolis
OC S2
Nip/Tuck S4
Animaniacs S2
P&TB S1 and 2
Night Court S1
Dukes of Hazzard S4 and 5

Not much for me, but I (like many) grabbed an extra Smallville S7 blu for hopeful trade for S6 blu. Hopefully I can find that myself as I liked that season much more than S7...especially for eps Justice and Combat (come on...Lois in Red Leather in HD...whats not to love?)

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Someone posted on my craigslist all ready selling these for 15 a piece. I posted one that said DVD sets 6 dollars or trade and mentioned the ad and that I had pinky and the brain v1 from there for trade. I picked up an extra of there for a guy on another forum who was going to trade me Animaniacs v1 for it but he ended up finding it. Still have the receipt so might take it back.

Anyways I got Superfriends v1,
Pinky and the Brain v1+2
Scooby Movies (I hate scooby doo but really wantedto watch the batman episodes)
Joey s1 (I like the show)
Animaniacs v2

Was hoping to get Wonder Woman, Animaniacs V1 or any friends set other than 10.

Grrr....looks like I'm gonna have to spring for Dallas S 1-2 and 8 during a certain sale this week. If you've got 'em, check the exchange thread for possible swaps.

and an Echo Bridge Spaghetti Western set that I don't think has been mentioned yet.

Yes, all 3 season sets (1,2,3) encased in its' own box for $6. A real find since Biglots is also selling the individual seasons separately for $6 each.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Most of Big Lots I swung by today either hadn't put out any new stock or were picked clean. And as someone else pointed out earlier, there were definitely a lot more people checking out the dvd section ... lol.

For anyone interested in the San Diego area, the Big Lots on Euclid (just off the 94 freeway) seems to have just put out some new stock a few hours ago. They had many Animaniacs, Pinky and The Brain, History of Rock & Roll, Dallas, Friends, Joey and a few Wonder Woman Season 3. Good luck, my friends!

I could trade you your Animaniacs Vol. 2 or Pinky & The Brain Vol. 1 for one of the Friends box sets. I think I saw 4 or 6 today. Would you be interested?

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Hit the Springfield & S. Plainfield NJ stores today. Apparently they had all put out their stock yesterday (Sat.), because it was all very picked over. Grabbed some items for trade. See my trade thread post:
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/9564857-post312.html

BOUGHT:
Joey S1 (saw numerous)
Friends S5 (grabbed two - one for trade - the only two "Friends" sets I saw)
Smallville 7 Blu (for trade)

ALSO SAW:
Dukes Of Hazzard (various seasons / numerous)
Knots Landing S1 (a few)
Dallas (various seasons / numerous)
OC Season 2 (numerous)
Roots The Next Generation (several)
The West Wing (can't recall which season)
Night Court S1 (several)
The Drew Carey Show (1 copy/can't recall which season)
Stephen King's Nightmares & Dreamscapes (a few)

Not one ER or Blade set was to be had.

Each store had multiple copies of Nip/Tuck S4 Blu, but buyer beware: every set had at least one floater in it.

I also remember seeing some cartoon I wasn't familiar with called "Wait 'Til Your Father Gets Home", and something called "Pinky And The Brain" (may have been a cartoon, not sure). Also saw a few different Skooby Doo sets and a few different Super Bowl sets.

That shouldn't be a problem if it's the Blu-ray. I've never seen a scratched BD.

Where did you find the Woody Allen? Was that from a previous sale?

Previous sale. South Jersey store, near Atlantic City. I'm not sure if that store is even still there.

I was at the one in Newington this afternoon. They had a lot of repeats, not much variety. TONS of Pinky and the Brain Vol 2 (but no Vol 1) and TONS of Animaniacs Vol 2 (but again, no Vol 1). Lots of OC Season 2 and West Wing Season 4 (I think). I only picked up Nightmares and Dreamscapes, along with a few $3 titles.

I hit mine again around noon - nothing much new, they had put out a couple of titles they didn't have Friday, but none of the hard-to-find stuff. A little disappointing, but my wallet is grateful.

Gizmo, I think you can give this guy a break for awhile. You should check out a user named Bezerker on CAG. He has started a thread basically boasting about his hoarding. He talked about his $900 in credit he has racked up and has pictures of all the sets he has left.

I think you could have fun with him.

Some BL stores are so haphazard in setting up their displays. I wish they'd take more pride in their product, Still looking for, in the Sacramento, Ca, area, Friends (s2), West Wing (anything except 2), A few more ERs (don't remember which), Smallville (everything but 4).
