Re: Big Lots Part 4

Nothing new - and little of what there was - in Lexington, KY this morning... I'll check again twice this week and then I'm closing this chapter in the Big Lots! hunt.

On a side note, I found a few ER's that I wanted for $15 at Wally World and picked em' up... Screw it, my time and gas is worth the extra $9 per... eBay also has quite a few sellers letting them go cheap, go figure.

I'll post again if I score but I don't expect that to happen... Back to the weekly visit for the $3 titles.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Stopped by 2 Big Lots today, one in Hazard, KY and the other in Pikeville, KY. The Hazard location didn't have a single box set nowhere. The Pikeville location had a big selection. They had a big selection of what has been mentioned, but no blu's.

I picked up Pinky and the Brain Vol.'s 1 & 2, Animaniacs Vol. 1 and The Best of the Scooby Doo Movie's.

I was wanting Vol. 2 of Animaniacs, but couldn't find it. If anyone could pick up a copy of it for me, maybe I could find something at mine that maybe there's don't have.

Walked into an FYE today and noticed they had a bunch of "used" ROOTS: 30TH ANNIVERSARY sets selling for $35.95 each.

I have been to many Biglot stores. Here is my recon of the Dukes of Hazzard sets:

S1 - have not seen it!

S2 - not many around, but available.

S3 - have not seen it!

S4 - available in larger quantities than S2

S5 - many sets available at lots of stores

S6 - many sets available at lots of stores

S7 - have not seen it!

Happy hunting....

Re: Big Lots Part 4

I went into my big lots stores around town early in the morning , but they were COMPLETELY stripped out. Both cashiers said that a couple of people came in and loaded shopping carts as high as they could and bought them out.

Only thing I found was Samurai Jack Seasons 1-3 (snagged season 4 off of Amazon marketplace for $4.46 shipped to complete the series).

damn flippers

Re: Big Lots Part 4

I wonder if the mass hoarding of titles will eventually lead to the studios just bypassing selling them to the public and start reaching agreements with select online resellers in order to move these type of titles?

Kind of like concert tickets where brokers hoard all the worthwhile tickets and/or promoters deliberately set aside prime seats for them in exchange for increased kickbacks.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

If I were in charge of these stores I would limit how many of the same title you could buy! I've picked up 2 copies of some things to give as presents in the past, and I've even felt guilty about THAT- a limit of 1 of each title wouldn't be too unreasonable. I think INetvideo does that sometimes, like when they had the Transformers HD-DVD for $1 plus shipping.

I have to wonder how much Big Lots is paying wholesale for these- when I worked at Tower I was able to look up the 'normal' wholesale price of most items, but sadly that's gone now. Question now is are they gonna get more of this stuff in soon, or at least in the future? There's a couple titles from this sale I still want to find but not sure how much luck I'll have. I remember just a few years ago it was rare for Big Lots to get in ANY DVDs, and when they did they were usually public-domain or direct-to-video B-movies. Nowadays you can always walk in and find at least ONE movie that you've actually heard of before. Wonder if surplus Blu-Rays will be far behind?

Even worse, I found myself wondering how many years I would have to wait to get the Two and a Half Men sets at the $6 TV box set price at BL.

Nope, very few online retailers could buy in the quantity that Big Lots does.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Visited Richmond, KY again this past Saturday (7/11) since I was in town anyway. Wow! What a vast wasteland the $6.00 DVD table turned into! Glad I went early in the week. About all that was left was Joey, History of Rock, Pinky/Brain, NFL and Nip/Tuck. Saw one Dukes S5 in there.

Called the store this morning as asked about the $6.00 table. She said it's still "low" and that they don't have any more stock in the back to fill it back up with yet and it would be pretty much "the weekend" before they have new stock out (assuming they get any, as they never know what is on each truck).

Re: Big Lots Part 4

I've actually been more excited about the classic Warner batch then the boxes. Showed up here on Friday. Some titles included Queen Christina, Annie Oakley, Kitty Foyle, My Reputation, Cabin In The Sky, Each Dawn I Die, East Side West Side, & restock on Casablanca.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Sunday, picked up "Wonder Woman the Complete Collection" at the Kettering, OH store around Noon for $6.00. That was the one and only copy I saw at any of 3 Big Lots I visited Sunday. At another big Lots(Woodman ave. Dayton,OH), picked up The Best of the New Scooby-Doo movies for $6.00. They had plenty of copies of that Scooby on the wire racks yesterday. This one has "15 Celebrity-packed(Three Stooges/Don Knotts/Laurel and Hardy etc.) episodes from the original one-hour TV show).

Re: Big Lots Part 4

My girlfriend and I went on a road trip to 5 different Big Lots stores in eastern PA yesterday and saw varying amounts of $6 sets left. The one thing on my list I couldn't find was Pinky & the Brain Vol. 1. Anyone near Philly might want to hit the one by the Franklin Mills mall. They had a pretty good selection when I was there.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Went to the Stockton, CA store on Country Club Blvd. Saturday, they had a ton of sets. My recollection will be somewhat shady but this is what I recall:

Dallas (probably all seasons)
ER Season 1
Joey Season 1
Roots 30th
Drew Carey Season 1
Scooby Doo (various movie sets)
Pinky & Brain
Animaniacs
Thundercats Season 1 Vol. 2 & 3, Season 2 Vol. 2
Life Goes On Season 1
Dukes of Hazzard Seasons 4 & 5 (i think)
Wonder Woman Complete (1 set)
History of Los Angeles Lakers (first time I'd seen this)
The Super Bowl Sets & Denver Broncos
Friends (various seasons)
Knots Landing (Season 1 ?)

Still a shock to see so many of these titles at these prices. No buys for me that day, I'd already found the ones I wanted in Modesto (History of R&R, Roots 30th & NG, Wonder Woman complete). I know the hoarder situation sucks, realistically there isn't much to be made on these except for trading them in to B&M stores but even that could kill off the value there if there is a massive glut. I have too many friends that are hoarders and aren't making them aware of this sale for that sake. I'm simply glad to have such wonderful titles available at great prices.

Did the LeMay BL have any Friends, Joey, or Super Bowl sets (particularly the XXXI-XL)? Just curious if its worth a trip. I don't really 'need' any of them and am certainly content without any, but sometimes you just get the itch to get something new (is it really that relaxing to see a new dvd in shrink wrap sitting on the shelf next to the last dvd you bought that is still in shrink wrap from your last itch?).

Re: Big Lots Part 4

I picked up Roots and the complete Wonder Woman set. When I got home Roots was missing the first disc. I'm trying to decide if I want to try to deal with the Warner Bros Home Video people and try to get the first disc or just return it to Big Lots and do with out since it was the only copy. AlsoI kind of regret buying the WW set.

I'll be opening and checking my Roots discs when I get home...
As for WW, you won't have a problem trading it here. Check out the Big Lots Exchange thread...

To my knowledge, all features are identical. The only addition to the set is the box that houses the 3 individual seasons.
