Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

I always "confirm" the price of DVDs at Walmart with one of those "price finder" things they have on their walls or posts (if you can find one, and one working) because too often people (including employees no doubt) just throw things in the "sale" batch that are not on sale as well as questionable prices (like the $4 dvds that were $3 for a few days and now may ring out who knows what). If they're taking down the $4 signs, this sale might be over and they're just not pulling the dumps yet.

I found 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 Disc Ultimate Edition' (1974, pseudo-steelbook packaging) for 5 bucks.

I already have it, but picked up a couple of extra copies. It''s a great movie, a great DVD and it's absolutely loaded .

If you can't find a scanner that works, try the computers/barcode scanners located in the Electronics dept. They work just like the other scanners do, not to mention you can look up something to see if walmart.com sells it.

Back on topic.. My store didn't have that big of a $4 selection, I got there when they first put them on the shelves but there was nothing I was looking for. The $5 4-sided shelf has become a disgrace as well, I'm gonna check another store tomorrow -hopefully it's not too late.

picked up a copy of stalag 17 on a friends reccomendation, was told it is a great film and was the inspiration for the tv series hogans heroes. when I got it home, I realized that even though it is the special collectors edition that it is in full screen, does anyone know if it was originally shot in widescreen, or if full screen is the oar

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Found the first two seasons of CHIPS for $20.00 packaged together. They also had the first two seasons of Gilligan's Island packaged the same way.

Grabbed the CHIPS set for a nice dose of 70's cheese.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Are those TV seasons in the two-packs sets individually sealed besides the outer wrap? I need BIG VALLEY season two and GILLIGAN'S ISLAND season one but already have the companion sets for those and it would be great if each season is sealed individually to make it easier to trade or sell the duplicate.

Well It's not technically a steelbook I don't think, but it's a metallic/tin case.

When you look on the inside of the case, it has the Steelbook logo and lists steelbook.com. Not sure how much more it could "technically" be a Steelbook.

i think it was originally released in a viva case or some other steelbook-type packaging, but wasn't officially in a steelbook (TM) case until subsequent printings iirc. i could be wrong though, but for some reason i remember something like this happening...

Sunset Blvd Cent. at my Wal-Mart -- so they must be restocking cause it wasn't there last week.

Still looking for Odd Couple and Ringu.

You are indeed correct. I just checked my copy. I don't know why I was so confused about this.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

is it correct that there have only been four paramount centennials spotted at walmart thus far?

1 - sunset boulevard
2 - roman holiday
7 - the odd couple
10 - chinatown

^ I believe the posters who spotted "Chinatown" in the $4 display mentioned it was the original edition.

One of the WMs near me had just restocked this morning, but I still haven't found Ringu. It did have the Centennials.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Bought Reds and I managed to find the last Ringu set.

Ringu set is a complete blind buy. I hope it's good. If not I can just give it away.
