I called Borders and told them I would like to return my item I received for 80% off because the overwhelming guilt will cause me to fail every single one of my classes this semester. Also, I will go to hell.

If this would have went through, I was going to buy all my DVDs from Borders at their regular price. They lost me as a stupid customer forever.

And yes, I put in an order. No, I did not get it, but I'm not the slightest bit upset about it.
They charge nearly MSRP for every item they sell. They (and Suncoast) deserve to go bankrupt by charging those high prices. Seriously, who the hell would pay $30 for a DVD when Amazon has it for $8? I use Borders B&M stores to browse...and then I use my iPhone to login to Amazon and place my order.

Thanks kenbenobi, got cancellation email yesterday. I actually ordered books. Looks like most of the orders that got through were for DVDs. I wonder if they use a fulfillment house for those and their own warehouse for books.

I have to agree with Gizmo here. Borders is in that situation because of their stupid business practices. They were doing just fine just 4 years ago, when they had almost everything in their store $5 off the retail price and had coupons every now and then. For being greedy, they decided to raise all their prices to MSRP. When that didn't work, they decided to throw the Borders Reward incentive, but it was too late and they had driven a lot of customers away. So what do they do? Change the rules for the Rewards program, where now you have to spend $150 instead of $100 to get $5. Also instead of accumulating those $5 rewards, now you have one month to spend the "Borders Bucks". Add to the stupidity the launching of a website that doesn't work properly and customer service that is very inept and you can see how they have dig their grave.

I feel sorry for the employess, but their bosses have caused all this mess, not us. Corporate still has time to correct things, but if they keep thinking with their asses instead of looking for the best way to keep the company profitable, they will go bankrupt soon.

I tried for over 2 hours to get an order in, but the site wouldn't work for me. That's two hours of my time. I feel Borders owes me fair compensation for wasting these two hours. CS can expect a call from me later on...

But that part is a guess. I know the profit margin is nowhere near that, for damn sure.
As in the case of Linens'N'Things and a few other businesses with high mark-ups that filed for BK, the huge mark-up does not necessarily correlate with running the business well.

I refuse to believe that there are so many people willing to pay MSRP for books and DVDs (students and professionals are not willing, and there's always the competition). I guess the Borders numbers are way off.

So I just got off the phone with Borders CS. I was ready to give the CS person a piece of my mind but she was far too nice. And we shared the same name lol.

So, after I explained to her my situation, all I ended up with was a measly GC. I'll take what I can get. Hooray for $20 free bucks.

I told her that I had placed an order with what I thought was a real coupon (lies!) and that I had been waiting on a shipping confirmation. I then told her I received a cancelation notice five days later, and that I was very upset that I hadn't received my text books for class- which is why I picked the fastest shipping. (more lies!)

I then told her that this my first try at ordering from Borders.com and I didn't like the service. That I was wondering if I would try to order again because the checkout took forever for unknown reasons. (even more lies!)
She told me the best she could offer was a gift card because (when she checked my account) I was a valued customer they would hate to lose.

I told her I was happy with the GC, and refrained from saying the only way to keep me was to honor my order.

....I didn't order any textbooks as far as I remember, just one book I needed for class and 10 dvds. LOL.

It's not 80% or 60% but it'll make a nice dent in a boxset when the next 40% off coupon arises

I'm still waiting to be charged.

I have two orders and the holds dropped off my bank account yesterday. I haven't gotten anything on there since, so I have no idea what I should expect (what I agreed to pay or what they decide to charge me).

Yes, but you should spell it "rediculous" to go along with your "cloolessness."

If nothing else, you went on a valuable journey of self-discovery, wherein you discovered that your dignity is worth exactly $20. That is good knowledge to have going forward.

While there is most definitely a multiplicity of reasons on why Borders is in a dire financial situation, I don't think it is fair for so many people to get so upset over them not honoring this coupon when they know damn well it would cause the company to lose a fortune. It might be the "corporate bosses" that have caused this mess, but anytime a company of this size goes under, it is society as a whole that has to pay the price for it.

Where do you guys get the idea that Borders is expensive?

Sure they sell box sets and Criterions for MSRP, but they have hundreds, if not thousands of dvds for under $10.

Yesterday I picked up Mighty Aphrodite for 9.99 (cheaper than Amazon or DeepDiscount).

The complaints seem a little dishonest is all.

Mighty Aphrodite? I think they're talking about newer titles.
