Their computer system does no enforcing, it allows coupons liberally. It's up to the cashiers to interpret the verbiage and allow or disallow usage. Coupon usage is YMMV at any chain/store, and may work one hour and not the next.

^ Thanks Trevor. I knew It was largely YMMV with using multiple coupons at once, but I just wanted to make sure the Membership purchase date wasn't a computer enforced thing.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

As mentioned, their computer system has not "flagged" these coupons to be invalid if conditions are not met. Of course, ordering online will negate them, if not applicable. Their real value has been in-store, where they have scanned without issue during past sales.

My experience with cashiers has been generally positive when using multiple coupons, where a polite request to ring up separate orders has always worked. One clerk at one store is a particular d-bag, allowing but one, but other than him, no problems. Of course, I wouldn't try this with an armload of titles and a stack of coupons, but 2...3...maybe 4 is usually OK.

It's good that the sale runs for three weeks, as it allows multiple trips, and if you live near several stores, all the better. Happy hunting. -wink-

So if someone only has online access to B&N, those 20% off codes combined with one of the various extra discount websites is the best way to go, no?

I assume you are referring to the 20% new account codes? Yes it would yield the largest savings with one of the links like AAA or library but there are restrictions with those coupons. You can only use one after creating a new online account and making your first purchase.

Offer is not valid for renewal Memberships". When I purchased my membership last fall, I was within those dates. Do these coupons really not work unless you've purchased your membership within the two aforementioned dates? If so, why are people renewing their memberships to use this coupon?

I renewed last fall, ordered online, and it still worked.

I keep having a feeling that they are going to adjust coupons and the deals to make it so that we don't have $13 BDs and DVDs, but I hope they don't.

I've never had a problem using a coupon whether it was in-person or online (provided that it hadn't expired).

So am I missing something -- are there any existing or upcoming in-store coupons for non-members?

Laser always has every coupon in the first post.

Yes, I know and I check that post regularly. That's why I was just asking for a confirmation that there don't seem to be any in-store coupons for non-members.

There is currently one store coupon available on the first page for non-members. Most of the coupons are online codes and have no printable version for a store. To locate store coupons look for the spoiler tags and click it to see the coupon and the link at B&N.com. Here is the coupon from the first page.

Non-Members (Anyone can use)
To save an Extra 10% ONLINE, enter coupon code P7F4N3P at checkout. The 10% discount will be applied to the highest-priced item in your cart. Pre-orders are not eligible with this offer. This coupon is valid from July 8, 2010 to July 19, 2010 at 2:59 a.m. Eastern Time.
Printable store coupon available

I'm having problems using coupon codes when using affinity or association links to access B & N. I'm familiar with adding coupons when I access the account directly, but when I access the account through an association link, the discount is already posted, even at the last screen and there does not appear to be any way to add a coupon code, at any of the screens from "cart" to placing the order. Am I missing something?

It's located on the second stage of checkout (the Payment stage). There is a coupon code box just below the box for membership number.

So, just to be sure. The cheapest option for non-members is an affiliate link coupled with the 10% coupon code, right? I believe this is what I did last year to get the Criterion down to $16.

15% coupon gets it down to $16-17, yeah.

Thanks. I've already added the ones I'm interested in, now I just have to do some narrowing down before Tuesday.

I hope I can get the coupon to work multiple times if I don't sign in. If not, I'll go ahead and pay a little more in store. I just wish Antichrist and The Thin Red Line were being released Tuesday.

Am I right in thinking that the cheapest way to get Criterions next Tuesday for non-members is to use the 10% bookstore link with a 20% off new account coupon? Any limit on how many 'new' accounts you can have? I have a $10 online GC that I'd like to use, so I must order at least one online.

With both coupons, I am looking at a price of $14.4 + S&H. Not too bad compared to going the store. About $2.4 more after factoring in shipping.

Can members stack the $5 off coupon with other coupons in store?

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Last November sale I was paying a total of $14.14 for the $39.99 msrp titles. That was including tax and after the coupons and various discounts.
The $29.99 msrp titles came to $8.xx

Those extra $5 coupons added up in a hurry. It will suck hard if I can't find anyone to take them this time (the one clerk at one location is always a douche about them).

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

^ Yea, me too. I was paying $13.00 before taxes. I'm kind of counting on it this time around as well.

I won't mind if they only allow one per visit; over 3 weeks with 4 stores near me, I'll get what I want. My fear is they will try and enforce the "$20 rule" on $19.99 titles.

YMMV of course, but probably. At least the $5 coupon trio are written to work together. Getting 10% or other coupons to work in the same transaction is against the fine print, but it depends on the cashier.

My normal transaction was 3 DVDs and a CD, using the three $5 coupons (DVD, CD, transaction total), and two % coupons.

You should ask kenbenobi. I think he has about 100 accounts by now. j/k I should add you just need extra email addresses to create extra accounts to use the coupon multiple times.

Also if you use one of the free shipping links like Boeing or military it would save the shipping costs without buying a membership. The percentage of savings is a little lower than the library link, but saving a possible shipping charge would make up for it.

Thanks, the free shipping will definitely make up for the 3% discount difference.

That's a few cents less than the in-store members price after the $5 coupon and don't have to pay for gas...unless I am missing something and the store is even cheaper somehow.

Most people will end up paying about $13 before tax for $40 list price Criterions at the stores with the $5 DVD coupon unless they let you stack it with the $5/$50 coupon. I never push the extra coupons at my local stores since many times the employees are scratching their heads over the $5 coupons when I show them. You might be time and money ahead ordering online if you have to do a lot of driving to a store.

Ok, I know it's probably buried somewhere in this thread, and I probably won't need it since I have a B&N everywhere I look, but what's the best way to create multiple accounts?

I assume they all have to have a unique email address, right?

Can everything else (address, credit card) be exactly the same?

How do you get to $13? With the $5 coupon, isn't it $15? And then another 15% off somehow?

I have several accounts using the same information with everything but use different emails.

You get an extra 10% off with a membership at stores.

Trevor 07-10-10 02:58 PM

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

^ Yep. The math goes like this:

$40 msrp
- 50% = $20
- 10% = $18
- $5 coupon = $13

If we get a 20% coupon during the sale it's pretty close

$40 msrp
- 50% = $20
- 10% = $18
- 20% = $14.40

If you buy 4 items to get the total to $50, the $5 transaction coupon can be played. Unless you're lucky and can use the two different $5 off DVD coupons and two different 15-20$ off coupons, the $50 purchases are slightly more expensive than just buying every title separately at $13 each. But depending on how many titles you want and how many separate trips you want to make, it may be best to just buy 4 at a time and use as few as two coupons per transaction.
