I purchased all three volumes last month as a blind buy with the GSA coupon and just started watching volume 2. So far I've been pleased with it and glad I purchased them. It's going to take a long time to get through the whole series since it is a huge but I'm looking forward to watching each volume.

My patience with B & N and Bing is almost at an end. Justification aside, first they discontinue the member discount for people who paid for a membership already.

Second, they raise their prices after the buy two get one sale starts; DVD best sellers were 30% off when the sale started and the next day it was reduced to 20% off, only an extra 10% off since box sets are always 10% off.

Last there is Bing. For months even though entry was made through MSN/Bing, purchases were not recognized and only after two e-mails and forwarding the sales receipt e-mail was sent did you get the credit. The problem seemed to be corrected and now it is back again. I recently placed two B & N orders, a day apart, and both through Bing. The first was recognized and the second wasn't. As to the latter, I sent the customer service request to Bing and got the reply asking for the order confirmation. I sent it. Then instead of getting the credit, I got a request as to how much the cashback was and after replying, another reply that a request was being made to B & N for verification before they would even temporarily post the credit.

Shopping with B & N and Bing just isn't worth the effort. I'm using ebate now.

I hear you on the membership changes. I miss the online 10% discount but have put it behind me since there is nothing I can do about it. I'll try to make the most of my membership until it expires next year.

Also nothing new about B&N raising prices during a B2G1F sale. Sometimes I look forward to the sale ending so the prices can get back to normal. There are deals but you just have to take what they give you. Prices fluctuate and you just have to keep an eye for the best opportunity to pounce if they drop on something you want.

Not sure if B&N is to blame for the Bing problems. I recently didn't receive cashback on a online purchase at Best Buy, and noticed several other forum members also had problems at Best Buy. Fortunately Bing is great about giving you the cashback when contacting customer service. Anyway since Bing is closing soon you'll have no choice but to use another web site for cashback. I've used ******** and had problems with them not crediting purchases. Their customer service was a nightmare to deal with over missing cashback. Bing customer service is much better.

Well nevermind about Bourne. They raised the price again.

A Bug's Life and No Country For Old Men are on sale for 23.99 each and the Springsteen pre-order is 24.21. All 3 were eligible for the buy 2 get one free offer (surprised the pre-order qualified) and when combined with the AAA discount and 15% off coupon I paid only $43.17 with tax.

We made 2/3 of the same order! I ordered Bug's Life and No Country two-disc yesterday but went for Shutter Island as the third choice. Worked out to $16 and change shipped per title...doesn't seem like you can get these much cheaper elsewhere. I also used AAA and the 15% coupon.

Agreed. Bing's CS is very good. Every time I made a purchase and did not get the cashback message after 72 hours, they made it right after I contacted them. I'm going to miss the cash back option.

LM, or whoever else, I have a quick question or two. When the Criterion sale starts, are coupons typically allowed to be used with that deal online? If so, what are the likely coupons that will be active at that time online?

I'm finished with trying for the deal in the stores, at least using the $5 off coupon that is usually out at the same time. They did it just fine for me the first sale or two, but the last two it has been an absolute nightmare, and ended up with me wasting a ton of gas to just try to get them to take the coupon and everything.

Don't know about the member coupons, but any 10-20% coupons and click-through deals (such as the Visa 5% + free expedited shipping) will stack on top of the Criterion pricing. Half of the stuff I got during the last sale was online because of it.

I tried to use the non-member coupons with my AAA discount and none of them would work. I tried them without the AAA discount and they worked. Is this not being able to use coupons with the AAA discount new? I don't recall having this issue in the recent past.
I have multiple accounts so I used the AAA 15% off a couple of times.

That must be new. I was always able to use non-member coupons with AAA before. Was hoping to do it again when the Criterion sale hits, as I have done in the past.

Not a good sign...Just tried setting up a mock order and tried to stack non-member coupon V8W7J8B three separate times: first with AAA discount, then with library link discount, and finally Visa link discount. None would stack the coupon with the respective offers. Hope they haven't killed the stacking.

Online coupons should work with the Criterion sale unless B&N adds new restrictions, or does not issue any new coupons during the sale. It's too early to know what coupons will be available yet since they release a new batch every week. I would assume by the time the sale starts there should be an assortment similar to what has been showing up the last few months. I do expect another member $5/$5/$5 coupon around the start of July that can be used online and hopefully at most stores.

I've made several posts about this already, but B&N started doing this with a lot of 10% and 15% non-member coupons in May, around the time the 20% GSA coupon made its appearance. Looks like it affects all the links besides AAA. I don't have any information why B&N is doing this but have a feeling it could have something to do with the B&N membership changes a few months ago. So far all the member coupons have been unaffected. A few non-member coupons did work at the links but they have since expired, and don't know if anymore are going to work in the future. Looks like the only alternative is to use coupons at Bing until it shuts down at the end of July. At least you should still earn 8% cashback combined with the coupons.

If any of you are trying to use a coupon and the buy 2g1 you cant have 3 of the same title in the cart. At least that has what it has been in the past.

Not any longer. BN has "reduced" the price from 34.99 to 29.99 but they are no longer eligible for B2G1.

I placed my order a couple of days ago and received an email today that Vol. 1 was cancelled while 2 and 3 are scheduled to ship on 7/7. The email says I'm only being charged for one set while the free one in the B2G1 is still free but the order page still shows the entire total.
2 questions come to mind: What will I be charged? Why was the item cancelled if it's still available for order? When will the other 2 items be cancelled? PITA.

I have had this happen to me several times before. Usually they cancel my free one, or the item that has the coupon applied. I was always charged appropriately for the rest of the order, UNLESS A GIFT CARD WAS USED! If you used a gift card, I guarantee they took the entire initial order amount off. I think GC's are charged right away when the order is placed. If you used a credit card, you should be charged appropriately for the two remaining items (indeed getting one for free).

Of course, always check your c/c to verify... As for why it was canceled, I have asked myself that many times. It's the B&N way. You can just re-order it now for cheaper, so I wouldn't even bother calling to complain about it. But usually they will reinstate a canceled item if you call right away, so they can see it is still in stock immediately after the cancellation has just occurred. If the cancelled item had a coupon on it, they won't reinstate the coupon discount, from my experiences with them.

I get an error message when I attempt to use any of the 15% off coupons with the Library link. Has anyone had success combining the two? I'm not trying to make a pre-order.

EDIT: Looks like stacking is no longer possible?

Some of the member coupons stack. Not many non-member ones stack with the discounted links anymore. The 20% new account one still stacks, I believe.

Looks like B&N is having a free shipping promotion for all customers this weekend.

http://cart2.barnesandnoble.com/shop...p?promoid=7994

This weekend only, get FREE Express Shipping in 1-3 business days on all eligible orders within the continental US! There is no minimum purchase but certain exclusions apply, so please read the details below.

What do I have to do?

1. Place at least one eligible item in your cart.

2. Proceed to Checkout; "FREE Member Express Shipping" and "Send everything in as few packages as possible" will be pre-selected.

3. Place your order before June 28, 2010 at 2:59 am Eastern Time.

What exclusions apply?

Free Express Shipping applies to orders made at www.bn.com shipped within the continental U.S. only.

The following items are not eligible for Free Express Shipping: items purchased from third parties accessible from the BN.com website (e.g., used books, PC and video games, etc.) Gift Cards, Gift Certificates, Magazines, digital content (including but not limited to digital books, magazines, and periodicals), SparkNotes and Quamut PDF files, Audiobook MP3s, Barnes & Noble Memberships, unusually sized or overweight items, or any item not identified as eligible for Free Shipping.

Orders shipped to P.O. Boxes, APOs, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Protectorates are not eligible for Express 3-Day shipping but will ship free.

When should I expect to receive my purchase?

We do our best to estimate delivery dates for your purchase. The total delivery time for your BN.com order to arrive is a combination of the shipping availability time and delivery time. The shipping availability time tells you how quickly products are expected to be ready to leave our warehouses; this shipping availability is provided on the BN.com product detail page. The Express Shipping delivery time of 1-3 business days is the time in transit once your package has left our warehouse. For example, when an item is marked "Usually ships within 24 hours," this means the order will leave our warehouse within 24 hours and will arrive within 1-3 business days of leaving our warehouse. Orders containing pre-ordered items will not ship until ALL items are in stock.

Business Days are Monday through Friday, excluding holidays observed by the Post Office and UPS, such as New Year's Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Delivery times are not guaranteed. Sometimes the availability of the items in your order may change while we are processing your order. In this event, you will receive an email notifying you of a delay, and the remaining eligible items in your order will be shipped as scheduled.

Note: Items marked as eligible for FAST & FREE DELIVERY qualify for Free Express Shipping.

obviously a major YMMV, but I got them to take one of those $5 off any DVD more than $20 today on top of the B2G1 sale. I picked up 3 of the recently OOP Criterions - all at $29.99 - $3.00 member discount, so $53.98 for the two full priced charged, then he took $5 off one of them at the end for about $51 total out the door w/ tax. He called his manager and he/she said no problem and I just played dumb w/ the "I just got this in an email so thought i'd come in and use, didn't know about this awesome sale though! No big whoop if I can't use it, but they are over $20 so figured i'd ask" all very politely and aw shucks. Kid (teenager) was more than happy to fiddle around to make it work. :)

Thanks! I'll add it tomorrow when I need to update the list.

I just realized the link might be giving free shipping this weekend because B&N was having a free shipping promotion for all customers. Will have to verify it tomorrow when the offer is supposed to end.

List updated with a bunch of new coupons. Most will get activated later in the week. Found several new 20% coupons along with a new $5/$5/$5 coupon for members. That's good news for the Criterion sale next month! Will have to see if a lot these coupons will stack with the bookstore links when they get activated.

Usually the 25% coupons show up around the holiday shopping season. However the last few years they have been scarce. Maybe if there is another Criterion sale in November there will be a few around.
