I think for collectors, we became savvy enough to wait for the "old reliable" bi-annual sale, and withheld our purchases during the rest of the year.
Well, I sure as shit am not running to Barnes and Noble first to pick up my Criterions with their standard prices. If they do believe that if they cut out the sales then people will buy more at regular prices then they are sadly mistaken.

Like other have said, I think they would probably be losing quite a bit of money if they stopped the sale. I ONLY buy Criterions during the sale. I wonder how many other people are like me.

I buy Criterions when they are not on sale at B&N......just from other places.

Yeah I buy Criterions at other places when they are close enough to the 50% off range or when I REALLY want them. I had a pretty big list of titles I was looking to get in July, but with these rumors I went ahead and ordered 5 elsewhere that were at a decent enough price.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

I bought 3 DVDs in-store today and was able to combine the B2G1F promo with the new 15% off coupon. I didn't have high expectations of the coupon being accepted so I was pleased to get a few additional bucks off.

I really wish that they would change the B2G1F promo to sale price rather than full retail price. There would be some good deals then and they would probably get some more foot traffic. At the moment, even with the promo and coupon, there's not much that I can justify buying. If they would make the promo better or toss out some better coupons, I would be willing to give them more of my business (in both books and movies).

Anyway, I want to thank LASERMOVIES for creating this thread and keeping it up-to-date. I always check it before planning a trip to B&N and have saved quite a few bucks as a result. Keep up the good work.

It doesn't work on sale prices in stores? I ordered 3 Criterion movies online for $27.99 each and I got charged as such. Granted, 95% of the Criterion titles are at a full SRP of $39.99, but it worked for me on the ones that weren't.

Not in the two stores that I've been in during the sale. The small print on the signs says that the promo only applies to the retail price of the items. Last week, I tried to pick up 3 DVDs from the $5 dollar section and the cashier wouldn't allow me to buy them for $10 total. And today one of the DVDs I picked up (not the one that ended up being free) had a 10% off sticker on it and that wasn't taken off.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are different rules online and in-store. It seems like they're trying to push everyone online with cheaper prices and more selection.

Soooooo...is it correct to say that there is still no definitive word as to whether or not the 50% off Criterion sale is on?

A quick perusing of last year's threads regarding this sale shows that the sale was pretty much officially known by July 3-4, with a start date of July 12.

I have not heard any definite confirmation the sale is going to happen. I just read on the Criterion Facebook page someone mentioned a 50% Art House sale was going to start next week at B&N, but nothing about the Criterion sale.

The cashier has no say in the matter. I went to B&N this weekend to get some CDs for B2G1 free and what I was told (and the receipt confirmed) is that the computer will determine if the sale price or the B2G1 using the list price is better and give you the cheapest. I bought a number of 4.99 CDs but the computer wouldn't give me B2G1 because B2G1 from list would have been higher. Instead I got those for 4.99 each. I had a second order with a few CDs that were on sale but were cheaper using B2G1 so I received that deal on these CDs.

And it is different online. You get B2G1 on the sale prices. On the downside, you can use coupons in store but not online. At least I couldn't get a coupon to work with the B2G1 online yesterday.

Odd. I'm not sure if the 50% Art House sale is promising or bad news in regard to a full on Criterion sale. It would seem strange to reduce the price of Art House only, but stranger things have happened.

I asked the B&N movie manager at the local store this weekend and he said he hadn't heard one way or the other but should know by Tuesday. He told me to call him Tuesday afternoon.

Maybe it's meant as a general art house sale, and not just Criterion's Essential Art House? Meaning it could include Criterion titles but also other art house titles from other distributors. Could also explain why some clerks could have interpreted that as "no sale".

ShellOilJunior from the other forum reports that the Criterion sale will start July 10. Included in that posting is a link to a tweet by Criterion Cast.

July 10? Excellent....

With its normal three-week run, the Whit Stillmans will be mine!

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Just got back from one of the local Barnes & Noble stores. Sales clerk hadn't seen anything about the Criterion sale but said let's find out. Went into the store's computer system (to a place we probably can't get to) and there was the message: Criterion sale starts on July 10th and runs through July 30th. Since this is my first post you guys should take the info with a grain of salt. But if you do, beware- all the good blurays may be gone.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Does the coupon code W8X8Y4N in the first post only apply to purchased memberships?

Has B&N implemented some kind of system in which coupons can't be used unless the membership has been purchased?

Thanks.

^ Yes.
This coupon may be used once online at BN.com for each new, valid and current Barnes & Noble Membership purchased between April 30, 2012 and July 4, 2012.
Hint: Sign up for a free two-month trial membership, and you should be able to use those coupons.

I've gotten the two coupons I've tried to work with the B2G1 online sale. Both were posted by LASER from the 1st page of this thread (Y7X8J3H which expires in an hour and a half was one and the other already expired on the 30th). The Y7X8J3H order I had no problem with. The 30th coupon I did have a problem with, but that was because the B2G1 and the coupon combined to lower my order total to just under $25. It then said that I was ineligible to use a coupon (the free shipping) I didn't recognize. But I found a Bargain Book to add to my Cart and was good to go. Though funnily enough, B&N then notified me that the BB was out of stock.

New BN Buzz online coupon, received less than an hour ago. 15% off, must use Visa.
Y4A7P7U

They always advertise these coupons are valid for only 3 days, but typically work longer...

Thanks for the new coupon. Added to the list on the first page. Probably the older coupon will now expire soon.

There are actually a few Criterions I want and plan on getting with this sale. Is there a method to the madness to get the best deals on this sale?

Hmm, I think it works out best if you have a membership and can get 10% off in store plus whatever coupons the clerk may be willing to stack.
