Oh dear. Well, now I'm kinda glad I went crazy with the last criterion sale.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Is there any way for a non-member to get free shipping? And from what I've read, the online coupons aren't stacking with the B2G1, right?

edit: Scratch that free shipping question. I realized that it was locked in on expedited shipping. It must have been saved from the last time I placed an order, which was several months ago. I thought they got rid of free shipping over $25.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

so if there is no criterion sale, I guess we have to wait until Criterion gets 3000 more fans on facebook so we can have a day long 50% off sale for everyone to go crazy on?

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. Because of a family medical emergency I haven't had much free time to spend on the forum the last week and a half.

Thanks for the information on the emails. I'm not definitely sure if it worked for me yet. I tried to sign up two different email addresses that were no longer getting any B&N email offers and did get a single email on each for NOOK ebooks. However nothing for coupons or sales. Hopefully eventually I"ll receive the coupons again.

I hope that things with your family have improved, or will do so.

I got that same Nook email at my address, even though I hadn't re-signed up. It was the same address that I had used your link before on, back when you posted it months ago. As with everyone else, I hadn't gotten anything in awhile. Is it possible that they've just cut back their e-mails to everyone?

I got emails that I have only come to one email that i just signed up. On my old emails I got notice of a clearance sale of up to 50 percent but nothing else.
I hope things have improved for you, as well.

Thanks! I think everything is alright for now. My mom ended up in intensive care for about a week. Seems to be doing better. She is currently recovering at home after surgery.

I have several other email addresses that are still getting coupons and information on sales. B&N seemed to stop the emails on a few addresses that were linked to accounts that had a large purchase history. Email addresses not linked to accounts seemed to be unaffected.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

So basically we have one guy saying it starts second week of July (like it has in the past), and one guy saying it wasn't happening. If I remember correctly, in past years, don't the clerks only find out the day of/day before that the sale will happen? I think I remember last year we only got confirmation really close to the start date.

That didn't seem right to me, but has anyone had it work differently?

She also said she had no idea whether the 50% off sale would happen or not.

I went through the recent posts and here is the current opinions on the Criterion sale so far. I say flip a coin. So far the opinions from employees seem to go both ways on whether the Criterion sale is happening or not.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

My analysis of the whole thing is that the people saying the sale won't happen had to get that information from somewhere, whereas the people saying it will happen might just go from experience of how it went down in the past. However, for the "no sale" group, they might be interpreting the lack of information as equaling no sale.

All in all, major bummer if it doesn't happen.

At this point with all the different answers I don't think I would believe anything I hear from a B&N employee. We don't know where any of the information is coming from, and if it is coming from a reliable source. Hopefully Criterion will say something soon about the B&N sale to verify it is on or not.

Has Criterion ever said anything themselves about the sale directly? Or before the sale happens at all?

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

I was told 'no sale' at a B&N in Buffalo and again in Nutley New Jersey. The clerk in Nutley also claimed that location had one of the highest revenue producing media departments in any B&N in the northeast (when I asked if he was worried about that particular department getting phased out on him). While I don't 'know' that clerk, he seemed to be pretty up on what was going on not only in his store but elsewhere.
But I suppose we'll all find out the truth in a couple weeks.

Laser, sorry to hear about your Mom, but glad she is doing better. Hang in there, my friend.

NIGHT OF THE HUNTER Blu turned up in my Quick Picks at Amazon recently for about $22 so I went for it. I think that's a pretty good price and it's one less title to worry about if the B&N sale goes missing or jettisons coupons.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

With as many people going around saying the sale won't happen, there has to have been some official corporate memo or something. I'm starting to worry.

My main issue with this is that I fail to see a proper reasoning behind cancelling the sale. Sure, sales of home media might be on the decline, but I highly doubt that they were losing money from the sale, or else it wouldn't have gone for so long. It's also not a 10% off type thing where the customer might go "well I'll just buy it anyways", this will surely result in a 90-95% loss of sales. Minimal profit beats no profit at all, doesn't it?

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

After all the (mostly negative) speculation in this thread, I caved in and went for the B2G1 sale at B&N to pick up three of the Criterions I was waiting on for the (possible) sale. Not too bad of a deal with a 15% off coupon, and they were relatively low priced ones to start.

But still not as good as 50% off, and I am still holding off on the David Lean box set in hopes that a B&N sale happens in July or possibly Amazon comes across with a similar sale if B&N doesn't. Otherwise, I'll probably wait and hope for a November miracle from B&N.

I think there may be some concern about the devaluation of Criterions in general. I remember in the heyday of DVD, I wouldn't think twice about plunking down full price for a CC. Then the B&N sale started, along with the member discount, and the coupons, and I got very comfortable with the sub-$20 price-point for CC Blu-rays. I think for collectors, we became savvy enough to wait for the "old reliable" bi-annual sale, and withheld our purchases during the rest of the year.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

That's a good point, but from what I understand, Criterion's high price point is mostly to account for the high production value of their product, as evidenced by the lower price points of the films that undergo less restoration work or feature less special features (Essential Art House, Eclipse, the odd special feature-less title). As long as Criterion gets the same amount of money from B&N for their stock, the sale shouldn't cause an issue.

EDIT: I didn't know the B2G1 sale was ongoing. Is it possible staff were told not to mention the 50% off sale while this one was happening?

EDIT 2 (sorry for being slightly obsessive): The B2G1 sale is good until July 10, which was my estimate for the start of the 50% off sale (2nd Tuesday of July, like last year), so that may be why?

Yes, Criterion mentioned the B&N sales and openly promoted them. They were even mentioned in their newsletters.

Well this is the first time since the Criterion sales began that there have been any strong rumors of it not happening from store employees. That in itself has me concerned it is possibly true. We should definitely know something in a few weeks.

Thanks. She has made a lot of progress in the week that she has gotten out of the hospital. Hopefully she can get back to where she was physically, or close to it. Since she is elderly it's hard to know how full of a recovery she will make. However I figure I may have to do more for her if she needs help since I'm the only family in the area.

Even back in 03 and 04, I wouldn't have ever paid full price for a Criterion - I remember them being $26.95 or so at Planet, and I'd use a $5 off of $50 coupon every month on two. Either that or pick them up for roughly 50% off during their bi-annual 20% sales.

Which coupon did you use? I tried using one with the B2G1 sale and it wouldn't work.

EDIT: Nevermind, I read a few pages back the coupons weren't stackable online.
