I saw the new edition of Xanadu at my local Costco for $9.99 which includes movie cash to see Mamma Mia (which of course you could use for any movie playing at the time ). That's a better price than DD had it with the 20% off and I don't know if the DD edition had the movie cash.

At a Sacramento Costco I saw the new edition of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, Caine Mutiny, Picnic and On The Waterfront for $9.99. There were also two disc editions of both Fraser Mummy Films (with tix to the new movie) for $12.99.

I picked up the Stanley Kubrick collection to upgrade my previous single disc titles.
I also picked up the 20th Century Fox Best Picture collection with All About Eve, Gentleman's Agreement, How Green Was My Valley and best of all, Sunrise! All 4 titles for $12.99 + tax!

Is it just me, or have the new release deals at Costco not been that great lately?

Boxsets and catalog titles are the only deals. Note, they also tend to reduce the size and scope of their offerings only expanding their selection in time for the 4th quarter (i.e. Christmas buying season).

Quite true. They don't price their new releases low on first release like BB and CC do. They pretty much match up week 2 and beyond.
The deals Costco gets on box sets, etc. are passed along by the Mfr., they resell them at "wholesale" prices.
If you read articles about Costco, their biz model is based on profiting from memberships. They mark their products up enough to cover expenses. They have in place margin caps. Which Wall Street hates.
The difference I have experienced between them and Sams is that Sams charges you pricing that a distributor would give anyone that they had no guarantee of sales. Costco prices at a wholesale price that a biz buying several thousand per month would get. That is my opinion based on my experience. With DVDs anyway.

"Mamma Mia" free ticket: must use computer first
The free ticket included with a variety of $9.99 DVDs mentioned above is not like other free tickets I have seen. You have to go online to a special Costco site, enter the code on the back of the peel-off ticket, fill in a lot of information, then print out the free pass at the end.
I just mention this because it is more complicated than other offers I have used. The ticket prints with your name on it, and they may ask for ID when you use it. It is a good deal (worth up to $10.50), but with the multi-step process, you shouldn't wait to fill it out only a few minutes before leaving for the show.` Also, once the info is filled in, you must print out the certificate/pass within 72 hours, or the ticket becomes invalid.

not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but I picked up The Buster Keaton Collection from TCM at Costco today for 17.99 (it's currently $30 at Amazon for comparison). they had some other TCM collections for 17.99 as well.
