A clerk told me that they could only call the distributor before 5PM on Monday and Tuesday. When I called to check on my order (which was never placed with the distributor) this past Tuesday evening, the clerk on the phone said that she wouldn't be able to order it until next week because they couldn't call the distributor until next Monday. I want the distributor's job. Those two-day work weeks must be killing him.

Hmmm. I went there on a Monday.
They called Wed. saying they'd just talked to the distributor. Must be a different one in different regions.

I spoke with the store manager about an hour ago. He must have talked with the regional manager, as my dvds are now on order. I can understand that they might be upset... I did order 8 sets.

Was the store manager saying no until you talked with the regional manager? How did you get his name? Are you saying the regional told the local to order?

The local manager called the regional, and must have told him to go ahead with the order.

Hmmm. I pre-paid in full for SCTV 2 yesterday and just got a phone call from my local Blockbuster telling me that their distributor had just informed them that the computer price was wrong and that if I wanted the set I would have to pay their correct price of eighty-some bucks! They've offered me a refund and an apology, and that's it.

Any suggestions of what I should do now?

That's almost exactly what happened to me. Call them up and talk to the manager. Tell them that changing the price after having paid is illegal. Tell them that you've already paid in full, so they are legally bound to provide the merchandise. Complain like there's no tomorrow. At least, that's what I did, and it worked. I'm not really sure what the laws are exactly, but I know that Best Buy settled a similar misprice case a few years back.

Tell them you have a valid contract. They offered a price of 23.99 and you accepted.
Threaten them with small claims court if necessary.

I was also prepared to do this. Be sure to check the costs though, it was $51 here to file, so weight that against the value of the DVDs you're purchasing. I'm not sure if you get that back if you win....

Defendent would be liable for costs and filing fees. Just make sure you specify them in the complaint.

Well, I went in last week and they had no record of my order( I didn't prepay). The next day I talked to the manager who took the order for me, and she said she'd reorder it, and confirmed again that the price was 23.99. She just called me today to say it was in. I didn't ask her the price, so we'll see what happens on my way home from work today.

Keep your fingers crossed for me, puh-lease.

Wow, sorry to hear the horror stories.

My BBV called last Monday to say that the sets were in, but they couldn't break street so they couldn't give them to me until Tuesday. And on my way out of BBV after retrieving them, the manager waved and said "See ya when Volume 3 comes out!!" (they don't take many, make that ANY, pre-orders at my BBV).......

Same sad story here. BBV called me to say the $23.99 price was an error, and that the correct price was eighty something dollars. I said no thanks.

There are five BBVs close to my home/work, so I'm gonna try placing an order at each one in the hopes that it will go through at one of them.

I just called (for the 2nd time) to check on my order (which was paid in full) and was told "We've tried to order it 3 times but it hasn't come in - we'll refund your money". I guess I'll try stopping in during the day to find out exactly what the problem is but I'm guessing I'm going to end up getting a refund. Thats the end of my relationship with Blockbuster.

I ordered both SCTV Volumes today at 2 different BBV. At one BBV I was told that I didnt have to put any money down at all since there was no way to guarantee that it is in stock. I asked if I could pay for it in full and was told no. So its a waiting game at that BBV. I did get a pink slip with the price and and order number.

I tried my luck at another BBV and the CSR wrote down the order slip and told me I have to put down at least half down to get the order in. I told him I would like to pay it in full...he said ok and punched in the order. He then told me that I will owe $2 when it comes in and that I cant pay for it in full just in case the price isnt correct. I asked him to check again on the price and he assured me that it was indeed $29.99 & $23.99 for Volumes 1 & 2.

He then said..."Hold on a second. Let me call in the order for you and double check on the price. It will be a few minutes so why dont you browse around a bit and I will let you know about the availiabilty of the title and the price."

Ok...so I took a look around for a few minutes then as I was leaving he told me..."I called in your order and should be here in a few days. And that $29.99 & $23.99 is the correct price. He said that it will be coming in from a warehouse in Chicago and may be here delivered quicker as Im in Joliet (40 miles or so SW of Chicago).

So fingers crossed on both of these orders and will see what happens in a few days.

I talked with a friend today that is a consumer watchdog reporter.

She said that if I paid and have the receipt that it's a signed contract that they have to honor.

They can't just change the price now and that it's "bait and switch".

She gave me an Attorney General website for our state and said there's more language there if I want it. She also gave me a 1-800 number I may try to call Tuesday.

I believe page 25 B section applies and there may have been something before that she mentioned.

Sounds like they don't want to give you the price that was promised. You can fight this-don't give up. Mention the Attorney General or Better Business Bureau needs to get involved if they don't deliver what they promised. Also mention "bait and switch" with the price.

I thankfully didn't have to fight at all.

I went in yesterday after work, and the manager who ordered it for me was there. She had someone else ring me up, and she commented about the low price, saying it was really good, with some retailer suspicion in her voice. I said "Yeah, great price huh? Here's my credit card." She proceeded to say how she had seen the sets at Best Buy, I was all "Yeah, they're higher. Do I need to sign something?"

The manager never batted an eyelash. As far as she was concerned, the price was 23.99 and there was no misprice, no consumer shenanigans. As far as I'm concerned, I don't think there is either. It's sad to hear reports of the few here who report some Blockbuster employees are saying the distributer has said the price was wrong, especially since the distributer has apparently made no move to change it (see StrTrkker's post above).

I went to talk to a manager and he told me that people were ordering 20 and more sets for resale that is why the distributor has stopped the shipping. He offered me a refund and no argument worked with him I don't want to give up but the manager doesn't want to sell my set and doesn't care that I paid in full and have the receipt.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.
