SCTV Season Two 23.99 at Blockbuster

I stopped by yesterday to try and pick mine up. They said it wasn't in. They called later and explained that it had shown up at the distributor they use for special orders, and would get to them in about a week and I could pick it up then for the $1 less than cost I had put down. We'll see.

Mrs. Pusser just informed me that the store called today and said they went to order it and the distributor told them it was $86.
"It was a pricing error in our computer and we can give it to you for $86. If for some reason he still wants it have him call me."
I have already paid $23.99 plus tax in full. Do I have any chance of getting it with some bitching or maybe there's a law about this?
I'm guessing I'm SOL.

Here's my saga. Pre-ordered it long ago when this thread started, but the manager wouldn't take a down-payment or give me a pink receipt to show that I had pre-ordered it for the $23.99 price. So, I just decided to wait and see what would happen.
I drove over to the store yesterday to see if the DVD was in on release day. Not there. I checked if my pre-order was still good and the clerk tells me, "Yeah. We'll call you when it gets in. Probably in another day or two." Again, I ask for some sort of receipt and offer to pay in advance, but again that option is not available to me.
Get home from work today and find a phone message that my SCTV DVD is in and I should pick it up ASAP. Go to the store and the clerk can't figure out where the advanced orders are kept. I kindly tell him to check the drawer behind him which is labeled, "Advance Orders." He finds my DVD, but wants my Blockbuster membership card. (I don't have one anymore. I got rid of it ten years ago because I don't like BB, but I don't tell him that.) I tell him I left it home. He asks for my name and license and tries to trace my card. He can't find my membership info. (All this time, I still don't know what price I'm going to be charged, but I figure I better be polite, just in case.)
He gets the manager to come out and asks him if he can just sell me the DVD without me having a membership card. (Gee, this place DOES sell DVDs to people off the street, doesn't it? I thought the membership card was for renting movies. Anyway...) The manager gives him the "go ahead" to sell me the DVD. (Maybe the growing line behind me had something to do with it--I don't know. All the time I'm thinking, 'Blockbuster does SELL DVDs, doesn't it, just like Best Buy and Circuit City and Target? I don't need a membership card to buy merchandise at those stores, but I need one here. Weird. No wonder I dislike Blockbuster.')
So, finally, the clerk rings it up, and *surprise, surprise* it's $23.99! THANKS, OP! GREAT DEAL!!! I pay and I'm on my way out the clerk says to me, "Enjoy your...ah...movies...or collection of movies...or whatever it is." I reply, "It's a TV show..." and think to myself, 'These guys don't even know what the merchandise is that they're selling. Ah, well, it's Blockbuster--Their Specialties--Cut Up Movies and Full Screen Releases.'
So...Wolverine, I'm down in Long Beach and the store is on Bellflower so I don't know if it's worth your time and gas money, but you CAN get the savings in Los Angeles (somewhere). Good luck.

I'm the same boat as you Buford. I went in yesterday to check if my pre-order had arrived, it hadn't and they said they would call when it did.
I got home from work to find a message from Blockbuster, from about 15 minutes after I left the store, saying the same thing: mis-price/error in computer; really costs $90 something bucks. Should we cancel the order? I also paid in full from a gift card credit from the $8 trade in deal.
So I guess I'll try another store.
What's wierd is that this was the same store that I got season 1 from earlier this summer.

That's what happened to me with the first set. If you pre-paid in full, by law they have to give you the set at that price. Call back and ask to speak to the manager. Be firm but polite - "I don't understand why they quoted me one price when I paid, but now they suddenly tripled the price?"

Hmmm. I wonder if the law has a catchphrase name to sprinkle around?

I'm in the same boat. I ordered up a few copies on Sunday and the manager called me on Monday to tell me that the distributer 'wouldn't be getting any copies, so they couldn't fill my order' which I think was a lie. I went in that night to see about a refund, and the person working told me that it was misprice, so I left without getting a refund and called the manager the next day. I told him that since I'd already paid in full, they were legally obligated to provide me the product at the price I paid. He's calling his regional manager, and has yet to call me back. I'll try calling again on Friday if I don't hear from him today.

Those of you who prepaid for this should get your set, no questions asked. I can't believe the problems some of you are running into. You are locked in at that price once you put down five dollars or pay for it all.
I go to BB from time to time to check on older movies because I sometimes do find they have the best price. One time I ordered a movie and it was ridiculously low in the computer and the clerk told me that was a sale price and unless I put down five dollars, I would not be guaranteed the sale price once it came in, that the DVD might go back to full MSRP. I put my five dollars down and in a few weeks I had my DVD at the cheap price. So ever since I put down five dollars on all my DVDs and have no problems once they come in.
I think it's just a training issue, I really do. BBV employees don't handle preorders nearly enough to know how to do them. The problems I have run into are clerks who don't know how to ring it up after they get it in and they try to charge me full price for the DVD or sometimes if I have paid in full, they will just hand me the DVD with no receipt and I know that's not right either because other times I always get a receipt. The manager comes over and tells them they didn't delvier it to my account and the manager takes care of it and I am out the door with my receipt.
And unfortunately, some of you are being fed lies to cover up incompetence and don't accept the lies, take a refund, or anything. Stand your ground until you get a hold of somebody who knows what they are doing.

these employees better learn how to do a preorder because one of the latest "promotions" is put $5 down and guarantee your copy of the latest potter movie on release day.

It's amazing how incompetently these stores are run. I pre-ordered over a month ago and paid in full. I called on the release date to see if they got it in. The two people I spoke to had never heard of this DVD. I was told that the order was never placed with the distributor, but that they would order it now and I should check back in two weeks. As long as I get it at the price I paid, I don't really mind so much, but how hard is it to get an order right? If BBV is losing money on this deal, I don't mind.

Are you guys special ordering these titles during the daytime? A clerk told me today that the only time they can call the distributor for special orders was before 5PM. Otherwise, they just write it down and hope someone the next day orders it.

Same here. I visited my BBV store at noon and gave them the info on SCTV vol 2 that I wanted to order. They wrote down my name, phone number, the title, and the price on a form in their book of orders. That was on Tuesday.
Today (Friday) I phoned them to check if the order had been placed. "Not yet" was the response. Arghhh!!! I asked when the order would be placed, and the clerk told me he would try to make sure it got placed today -- tomorrow at the latest. "Sometimes we get busy and can't get to the orders right away" was his explanation. Funny, because when I originally made the request, I was the only customer in the store at the time. Too busy to phone in a request? Whatever.
Seems like you have to hound these people to get results....

well it takes only about a minute or two. so i can see why they wouldnt have time to do it when no customers are in the store.

Picked up mine today and paid the $1.00
I owed. When I found out about this deal I called BB headquarters in Texas and got a short list of stores close to me that were corporately owned. The first store I called told me that no preorders are taken ever.
The next store I called looked it up and told me no problem preordering and it's $23.99.
Thanks again to the original poster.

I was the only customer in the store and two days later they called to say they didn't place the order cuz the price was almost $60 more than I payed for.
Has anyone had luck ordering now that the pre-order is done?

I went into another store yesterday and placed an order, putting nothing down, and was told it was the $23.99 price and it would be 4-6 weeks. (but prob sooner) I even got a pink sheet.
My totally uneducated guess: I think it depends on who places the orders, and whether or not they care if the store is getting a bad deal.
