That's the one I was thinking of, but the internet archive I checked indicates I was wrong. Oh well, the hunt continues!

I am 99.9% sure this was my first Hot Stuff comic off the spinner rack. (1980)

Dave Cockrum. I've always thought this was a great cover.

I love that Crazy cover up there. Mad Magazine was my first go to and I also had a ton of Cracked but didn't have hardly any Crazy issues. I need to look for those and I would love to read them all now as an adult. Wonder how they hold up?
Here is a terrible, fairly recent crossover that I found to be basically unreadable. I love KISS and I like Archie but this just did not work.

This was the first Marvel/Epic issue, right? IIRC the Pacific issues were completely different anyway, this is the start of the Groo we all know and love. I wish we had collections (or do we?)

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day
Yeah. Pacific only had an 8-issue run and the Marvel series had 127! As far as collections go, I know there have been various ones over the years, but I have no idea if they have reprinted all 127 and I didn't see an omnibus.
I didn't get into the character as a kid like I thought I would. That is another series I would like to revisit as an adult. So little time...
This was the coolest cover from the Pacific run in my opinion. Nice little tribute.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day
This issue helped begin the demise of comic book collecting. I was big into DC stuff at the time and collecting all the Superman titles and Batman titles, crossovers between both and anything else that caught my eye or interested me, as well as being dumb and buying various #1 issues I had necessarily no interest in. I had been collecting all the Superman titles because I loved the John Byrne takeover, but my money was wearing quite thin at this point, being a mere 15-year-old and having only so much disposable income. I quit collecting Action Comics at this point and the dominos started to fall over the next two years. Even though I got a regular part time job before I turned 16 and stayed with it until high school graduation, a car, girls, and saving for college began to take precedent.
I really did hate to give up the hobby though. And I had ZERO friends doing it, so that probably assisted giving it up as well.

The only G.I. Joe comic I ever owned as a kid. The silent issue! And now it is the one G.I. Joe that is worth the most. Sob.

On a side note Skybound is releasing a compendium of Hama's Marvel run, now I'm tempted:

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day
This was my very first comic, I got it for my birthday when I was 5 or 6 or something. Treasury-sized. I absolutely adored this, inhaled every page of it, and became a lifelong DC/Superman fan.
I remember being particularly fascinated watching The Flash vibrate through matter while Superman had to fly over it during their race.
And although this is 1976, notice how Green Arrow is still wearing his Golden/Silver Age costume, and not the buttkickin' Neal Adams redesign.
Anyway:
Pencils: Carmine Infantino (layout); Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez
Inks: Bob Oksner

But did you pay attention to the second and third(!) race?

I don't think I ever read the third one until MUCH later, maybe in the 90s sometime. But I remember the Byrne-era race (Dan Jurgens or Roger Stern writing?) in which, rather obviously, Flash won the race because DC judiciously realized that if Superman can outrun The Flash, then what's so unique about The Flash?
Don't give me this "IT'S-A-TIE-EVERYONE'S-A-HERO!" bullshit

Well Byrne era Supes was also depowered because they thought pre Crisis Superman was too powerful (ironically post Crisis Wally became sooo much more overpowered than Barry ever was)

I only had a handful of Batman And The Outsiders issues as a kid.
I had the first issue and the cover always made me laugh.

This was another issue I had. Always thought it was a cool cover with the sword reflection.

Jim Aparo was the fucking man. Norm Breyfogle is my favorite Batman artist of all time but Aparo is my second...especially if I want an extremely "clean lines" Batman.
It is a shame his Black & White Batman statue sculpt was shit. I was really wanting a good one to represent him and I do not think this looks good or like his Batman at all.

I love Jim Aparo's art. That kind of, sort of, almost looks like Aparo's Batman.

I loved BATO but man I hated Halo's second costume, the white with the collar and the 80s hair, vile.
Not a big Jim Aparo fan. Absolutely every face looked the same and his character designs were weak IMO. His classic Batman stories were great though, but by the 80s/90s it was really stodgy and old-fashioned looking. And not in a good way. IMO of course.
I remember speaking with one of the late80s/early 90s Batman writers -- I won't say his name but at the time he was a fairly big name -- and he confided in me that he didn't care for how DC editorial insisted Aparo do the pencils for his run. He was doing some pretty dynamic stuff and they stuck him with some stiff, fuddy-duddy art. He left for Marvel soon afterward. Unfortunately, he was right. It was an awful match.
Jim Aparo on Batman is like Curt Swan on Superman. Iconic and great for its time.

Loved this series as a kid. Had almost a complete run all bought off the spinners!
