Yeah I didn't like Halo's second costume or the hair. Wasn't a big fan of Looker either. And that GeoForce costume... I realize in story why he needed to change it but man... does he really need those big GF letters on his chest?

Loved Captain Carrot... he resurfaced thanks to Multiversity and just got his own action figure (based on Multiversity but with a variant in more classic colors, though because it's the same mold as the modern version it doesn't look much like the old comic).

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

I bought this one when it was new as well. This was my first Superman comic. Something about that cover just appealed to 7 year old me in 1975.

Cover art by Dick Giordano...

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

In a similar vein:

Superman #304
October 1976
Cover pencils by Curt Swan, inks by Bob Oksner.

My second Superman comic. I don't even remember the story all that much (I've read the synopsis) but man oh man I was saying "Hate! Hate! Destroy" for the longest time when I was 5-6 years old. My parents almost never bought me another comic, I was so annoying.

Who here was an Ambush Bug fan? I had this whole mini-series at the time when it was released (1985). I literally remember zero about it now though.

Another of my all time favorite covers.

Kirby and Sinnott, of course.

Kirby's artwork was just perfect for the Fantastic Four.

Total agreement! No one has been able to handle the Thing's emotions/expressions as well as Kirby. I really like his work on Thor, too.

Oh yeah, I bought all of those issues when they came out and remember liking them a lot. But like you, I don't have any recollection of them either!

I thought it was interesting that Eric Carr is pulling off Peter Criss' face.

Yeah, that plus it's the early (not final) version of his fox makeup.

I forgot about those Hard Rock comics, I had a handful of those back in the day.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

So who bought all the Marvel New Universe issues in the beginning thinking they were going to be huge? I did. Oops.

I enjoyed most of them, but Nightmask was probably my favorite of all of them at the time. I tried reading Star Brand not long ago and it is truly awful and laughable.

At the time of release, I only lasted no more than 10 or less issues of all of them as my interest in each dwindled after the first several issues. One by one they dropped off for me.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

I was into Kickers Inc and Psi-Force. I think Psi-Force had a really good story for the first 18 months or so and it would probably hold up today, at least in a nostalgic sense.

I liked Psi Force and Starbrand the best. Was it this thread that we had the discussion about what ifs with this and Jim Shooter?

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

The New Universe came out not long after I just started reading comics (I was reading Transformers at the time, and was just moving into books like X-Men) so I didn't really get all of the hype surrounding New Universe and, from what I saw in the Marvel house ads, it didn't look very interesting.

And, really, the most interesting thing about it was how it was used as leverage to get Shooter shitcanned in a power struggle with Carol Kalish, and how Shooter then went on to found Valiant Comics and craft a similar -- and more successful -- superhero universe at that company, and then found himself in a power struggle with his partners there and got himself shitcanned again...

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

I was a dumbass and bought all 4 different color covers of this shitty-ass, unoriginal artwork at the time of release thinking they were going to be huge moneymakers. Thank goodness I got out of that mentality. Unfortunately, I went to the complete opposite end and quit collecting altogether not long after.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

I sampled most of the New Universe at the time & remember being very into the early issues of Psi-Force & Star Brand thanks to Mark Texeira & John Romita Jr.

I fell for that marketing scam hook, line and sinker. Those have some value but there are enough mint copies circulating that they aren't in high demand. I am majorly surprised DC hasn't issued that series in omnibus format.

Looking at those covers now, I feel kind of ripped off given their bland design.

Re: Comic Book Cover Of The Day

Ghost Rider had some of the coolest comic covers. I mean, a motorcycle on fire, flaming skull head, monsters, damsels in distress...a kid couldn't ask for more! Too many cool covers to choose from!
