So, is this snowman skiing, giving me a double thumbs-up, or a double fuck-you middle finger?

Re: Random comic-related pic thread

At the time not sure Shazam or Isis were DC yet Spiderman wasn't and isn't. Some of these old ads I wondered why the 2 competing companies allowed their likeness in ads together.

Re: Random comic-related pic thread

DC licensed Shazam in 1972, and gained ownership of the character in 1991.

That image is from a catalog like Sears, not an actual ad, so DC and Marvel probably didn't have much say on how the toys were presented, just like they couldn't request that stores keep them separated.

Did a little more looking, and it looks Mego's own ads mixed the superhero lines, even in comic book ads.

Re: Random comic-related pic thread

They possibly licensed Isis as well in that timeframe considering popularity of the TV show with Shazam. Interesting on the comic ad the characters appear together yet are still split Marvel and DC. Wonder if they asked Mego to do that.

Re: Random comic-related pic thread

^ The character has never done much for me, but I had a Corgi Batmobile (or two) as a little kid, mainly because I was a car buff and also a fan of many George Barris creations, including that one. I also picked up a couple of the ‘Superman’ vehicles back then, but likewise not because of comics, which I didn’t really ‘collect’ at the time. I did have a lot of die cast cars, though – and still casually collect them – and I always preferred the ones that looked like actual cars you’d see on the street in that era (70’s and back). Regular sedans, station wagons, pickups, etc., and few if any of the ‘kooky’ fantasy car designs that, say, Hot Wheels were known for then and now. The closer they were to what I’d see in neighbourhood driveways the better. Same went for utility vehicles, like vans and taxis and police cars. That Buick Regal police car (second row, second from left) and the silver Chevy (though unbadged) van were the only two ‘Superman’ Corgi cars I bought. I recall painting the van so it looked like a ‘normal’ van (), but my two or three cop cars stayed as-is because they just looked like real-world cop cars from a distance. I was all about ‘realism’ in my homemade play city.

The Regal mold was also used for Corgi’s popular Kojak car, among others.

Cute premise for a Ghostbusters cover.

Re: Random comic-related pic thread

It always bugged me that Real Ghostbusters seemed to switch Venkman and Stanz' designs, so that Ray Stanz looks like Bill Murray and Peter Venkman looks like Dan Aykroyd.

Some kind of likeness rights issue?

RG Egon Spengler sort of looks like Harold Ramis if bleached his hair, but Winston Zeddemore doesn't really resemble Ernie Hudson; sometimes he kind of does, or times he doesn't.

The earliest Mego boxes and displays combined both Marvel and DC heroes (along with Tarzan), but later boxes separated the characters.
