When Larsen was doing his adjectiveless Spider-Man run, his house burned down. One of the stories was split over two issues because of this, with a backup added to pad those issues. My guess is that also played a role in throwing of his involvement in an expanded issue 25.

Oh man, I hadn't heard that, that sucks. Makes sense though because the guy if anything is a prolific artist (even if you may not like his style), and I rarely remember him missing random issues.

His Savage Dragon has also gone off the rails and at times become softcore porn, but hey he's one of the only Image founders still putting in the pencilling work regularly.

Still, his run ended with Spider-Man 23 and then 24 was the Infinity War Crossover done by another filler team of Howard Mackie and Larry Alexander with Bagley doing the cover artwork.

I also remember hearing most people at Marvel didn't believe that Image was going to happen until they saw the Wizard Magazine Special Edition that came around February 1992. That magazine sold incredibly and the gatefold cover with all the artist collaborating and showing their characters was the thing that cemented that Image was real and that these 7 wouldn't be returning to Marvel or DC anytime soon.

Totally unrelated, but I got an oversized hardcover in the mail today, and opened it up to find it signed by Erik Larsen. Not bad.

In hindsight that cover is probably one of the most amazing things, considering all of them contributed and they got it out in time for the announcement, then basically failed every single artistic deadline after that.

Wow, look at those forearms. He has no elbows. The forearms grow out of the bicep. Also, the gun is sideways as if he showing it off instead of pointing it at something. Goddamn.

The inker needs to fix some of that.

You mean like redraw the arms to make it anatomically correct? You don't think the penciller would have a fit (especially in this case)?

Re: Rob Liefeld - Worst comic book artist ever?

Someone like liefeld might.
I think the inker can fix something like the missing elbow.

If the inker is an established person he might go over that stuff with him. Maybe talk about that gun.

Maybe they just don’t care.

It’s just lazy of Liefeld, the inker and the publisher. Maybe the editor too.

Lazy indeed. I mean just look at that composition. Why is Deadpool sideways like that?

Looks like he might have stole(borrowed) this off a Spider-Man cover.

At least Deadpool has feet on that cover.

At least Stan created the personalities of the characters. Liefeld can't even claim that with Deadpool. The personality of the character that made the character popular was not developed by him.

The anatomy on this one is nearly as bad as the infamous Captain America cover.

But nobody else does. Very very few even get hands.

Also Warpath is either cut and pasted into there very poorly or his shoulderpads have weird extensions that are the exact same color as the background.

I think they're supposed to be highlights or shading. Venom, Carnage, or whoever that is above him has the same kind of coloring on his shoulderpads.

Liefeld has traditionally drawn him with big square shoulderpads...

Ah, yes, now I see it, though it doesn't help that Venompool's lower body either disappears or he's contorting himself to hide behind the people in front of him (a bunch of characters are doing that too like Iron Fist, Black Panther, and Shatterstar's arm)

He really captured the essence of Reed Richards there, absolutely nailed everything about him as a character in that pose. He's so wacky!

Re: Rob Liefeld - Worst comic book artist ever?

Never thought we'd see Liefeld working for... Archie comics. But there you go.

https://bleedingcool.com/comics/rob-...rs-for-archie/

Oh look, it's the Shield dressed like Cable.

The artwork in the tweet is by Aaron Lopresti, btw. You can't tell by that snip but Lopresti's actual cover has feet (well, one is in shadows, and there is rubble, but it's undeniably not Liefeld)
