Highly recommended! Really gripping read, and very interesting protagonist.

This is the first book by Don Winslow that I have read. It won't be my last. California Fire And Life is a good book.

I haven't read Winslow either, but heard great things with the positive buzz Savages got. I recently picked up a few of his old paperbacks at a used bookstore (including the one you read). They were out of print and hard to find for a while, but I think they were recently reissued in trade paperback.
