Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Da Vinci's Demons Season 2 is $14.99. This has been in my cart for quite a while. So when I saw the price drop, I quickly purchased the set.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Oklahoma, The King and I, and South Pacific are $7.99 each. All currently showing as out of stock but you can order.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...n=new&qid=&sr= http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...n=new&qid=&sr= http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o03_s00 For King and I and South Pacific you have to look at additional blu ray options and new from. They are from Amazon and not a third party but apparently Amazon shows you the listing of where it is in stock as default. Though the listing for Oklahoma does not do this so who knows why they make it a little more difficult to see the $7.99 price for the King and Pacific. |
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
^That's due to the way Amazon now *always* shows the "least expensive" *in stock* with Prime shipping option as the default price. Oklahoma has no "Fulfilled by Amazon" (Prime shipping) offers making the Amazon one the default. The other titles *do* have a Prime offering so that gets put on the front page.
FWIW I think it's somewhat disingenuous of Amazon to do this and causes people to purchase from a different vendor at a higher price because they see that "Prime Shipping" bit and think it's the best price. They now do the same crap in the "Saved" section of the cart. If you have a MP item without Prime in the Saved section and it goes OOS they automatically substitute it with the "lowest price w/Prime" offer. With many of the DVD/BR titles, especially OOP or "scarce" ones, this can be something significantly more expensive than a MP offer without Prime shipping even for new product. I've complained but they don't care. I'm sure there are many ill informed purchases made because of this deceptive practice. |

What is the advantage of getting these individual releases.

I just want an option (not default for everyone, but an option) to eliminate all 3rd parties from ever being listed 1st, as the default shipper, or in a search.
I want to shop, search, and buy from Amazon.com so when I add an item from the page I'm looking at I never have to triple check and make sure it's directly from the site I'm shopping on. If I want to search 3rd Parties, then I can change to that option.

Less expensive Filling in gaps (own a couple already and are happy with the transfers) Packaging (plus many of these have BR/DVD/Digital) |
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Yeah, good points. I have the Sound Of Music Ultimate Edition and a few other UCEs, but might go ahead and get a few of these.

Mainly to avoid something you already have (Sound of Music, SOuth Pacific), don't like or a questionable transfer (King and I) in hopes one
day of getting better. State Fair and Carousel have average transfers according to most reviews. Oklahoma is apparently stellar Some folks just don;t like boxsets and prefer individual cases. Most reviews have not been very kind to The King and I. The individual SOM was originally a 2 disc set like South Pacific. Both SP discs are included, but only 1 of the SOM discs. I also don't think the Boxset had Digital copies and for some folks that's all that matters anymore. Rip open the Cracker Jacks, take out the press on tattoo stickers, and throw away the CJ. When the 2 disc DVD of Oklahoma! was released many years ago and people complained the Todd-AO version of the film looked worse than it did on VHS, Fox said that the elements had deteriorated since the VHS release and this was good as it was ever going to look. Technology improved and we got a terrific blu ray. There is always hope that the King and I will get a superior new release. They might label it mastered in 4K or something. |

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
There doesn't seem to be much in the way of horror titles on sale. A couple things but a lot of it is just stuff that's on sale fairly regularly. I'd have expected more for Halloween.

Fantomas - 5 film set from Kino is 50% off ($24.99) for pre-order. It's released January 5th.

I think most horror media sales end well before Halloween. It's too late for most customers to get their movie by Halloween at this point.
