I liked Strike Back more than Banshee. Strike Back has a pretty good blend of action, violence and enough gratuitous Cinemax moments for a fun show.

Strike Back is a great series. It's not formulated to give you "everything in 50 minutes".

Currently, although OOS, both seasons of The Newsroom are $16.99.

As someone who doesn't know much about anime, how is Cowboy Bebop?

I am not an anime fan and it is one of the best shows ever in my opinion.

If you like Firefly (which is similar in nature), get it. It is well worth 24 bucks.

Man, I've been meaning to pick up Cowboy Bebop for $35, but $24 got me to finally pull the trigger.

EDIT: Note that the buy button has now switched to a third-party seller at $59. You can still get the deal (which I guess is the bonus Gold Box DOTD today) by going to Other Sellers and picking Amazon.

Brilliant TV. It probably has the best soundtrack ever for a TV show.

I blind-bought the vol. 1 DVD based on the kick-ass opening theme alone.

Honestly, the episodes didn't grab me at the time, but I recently saw a couple at the local anime con (even though I'm not really an anime fan) and enjoyed them, so that renewed my interest in buying this.

Well the comparisons to Firefly have my attention. It also looks like the movie is on sale for $6.99

I would definitely buy the movie with it. It fits between the episode 23 and 24 (or maybe 22 and 23, i forget) or works just as a long, extended episode on its own.

It is literally the only anime that I like, outside of things like Studio Ghibli.

Cowboy Bebop is great. The Firefly comparison is apt. It has a western space opera feel.

Cowboy Bebop is anime made for those people that don't like anime. It takes a lot of its inspiration from American movies and television.

So the movie takes place literally between 2 episodes? I watched the movie before I ever watched the show so I've little memory of it since its DVD release.

It goes between 22 and 23, but to be honest there really isn't anything in it that sticks out from what I recall that would throw you off by watching it earlier (once all the characters have showed up in the series).

I really dislike these Amazon "day" deals where they don't make it clear it will end before even half the day is over. Was planning on picking up Bebop, but didn't think I was on a morning hours deadline. By the time I could get back online to order it... deal is dead.

I agree it's annoying, but honestly it's happened enough times for me to know that no deal is guaranteed to last the day, so if it's something I know I want, I go ahead and buy it. And the buzz it generated in this thread alone showed there was a lot of interest in it. It's that demand that determines how long it lasts.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray

It only pisses me off when they "sell out" the day it's offered, just to magically have more stock the following day at a higher price. They are still sold out of this, so they might actually be out of stock at the moment.

Spiderbite 07-08-15 12:32 PM

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray

I think a lot of times they block out a certain number of copies for the special price and once those are sold out, that's it. That's why you see stock availability the next day.

Believe this is a DOTD for 7/9/15: ESPN Films 30 for 30: Five-Year Anniversary Collection - $69.99.
