Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray

I was going through the whole list of Amazon's sale Blu rays / DVDs and picked up the Complete Get Smart for $44.96 and Complete Gilligan's Island for $24.99. I don't know if they were the cheapest deals, but they seemed cheap enough for me, especially the Get Smart which looks to have some nice extra features.

I was thinking about purchasing the following sets, but was wondering if anyone thinks that there is a high likelihood of the price dropping even further (ie: are these really great prices or are they just the normal price that Amazon usually sells them at - in other words, should I go for it now, or wait?):

Fringe Complete $67.32
White Queen Season 1 $15.00
Spartacus Seasons 2, 3, 4 $12.99 $12.99 $14.99
Firefly Complete $14.99

Your thoughts?

I think those are great prices for Spartacus and doubt they would drop much more. Good price on Gilligan's Island as well. I am considering getting that but can't seem to pull the trigger.

I signed up for a 30 day free trial of prime so I don't have to keep placing $35 orders to get free shipping. Apparently they give you a book credit if you choose no rush shipping. Nice.

It looks like a good price for Fringe.

$15 is pretty standard for Firefly. Could it drop further someday? Sure, but I don't know if it'll ever be, say, $9.99. $12 is probably the next threshold. If you want to watch it (and it's a great show), I see no reason to hope for a few dollars' worth of potential savings in the future. If you expect to be watching Gilligan's Island and Get Smart for the next few years, you might as well wait. :)

Is it just me, or do Amazon's Blu-ray deals pretty much suck this year? I know last year they pulled back a little on some of their offerings, but this year it seems like there's very little of interest. We used to get those lightning deals all day long all during the week leading up to Black Friday and, again, pretty much nothing this year. I guess someone figured out they didn't need all the deals to attract business.

I've typically spent 100s on Amazon during Black Friday week, and so far this year, not a penny. Nothing upcoming (from what they've revealed) is sparking my interest, either.

Yeah, seems pretty uneventful so far.

I did pick up Oliver Stone's 'Savages' as 3.99 blind buy.
Other that - nada.

Darn was hoping Arrow-Season 2-Blu Ray/DVD would be $9.96 again. (Just Arrow-Season 2-DVD is $9.96.)
Was hoping to be a tradition of getting Arrow Blu Ray/DVD there at that price or at the worst $14.96.
Oh well, maybe Best Buy or someone else will have it at that price.

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting RAIN MAN at the same price. But I'm just waiting to see now if they spring anything on us over the weekend that they haven't announced yet. Some of the titles I was hoping to get (Arrow Season 2; Big Bang Theory Season 7) only seem to be deals on DVD so far.

For some strange reason the calendar does not show beyond 12:20 pm on 11/27 for me.

No idea why I can not see all the deals that are listed.

Thank you Lizard for listing them.

I think this is the year that Amazon officially declared they weren't going to lose money on Black Friday anymore. The deals have been pathetic, and the calendar is filled with studio refuse and overstock.

Their last earnings report was brutal, it greatly underwhelmed Wall Street. They really don't have a lot of profit to show for their massive infrastructure expansion. This could be the new normal going forward.

They need to make up for the disaster that is the Fire Phone.

Yeah. Last year there was this awkward halt. Like we were waiting and waiting and waiting. And we got some deals but not like years previously. Fuck. I made a killing like 2 or 3 years ago.

I'm really hoping for a deal for the complete series of Breaking Bad. There's a 50% off deal for the barrel, but I want the normal packaging.

Ummmm... is it me or is The Lego Movie no longer listed? I saw it there earlier and I just went back to make a note of the time it starts tomorrow and I can't find it.

Well, the lowest I've seen it on Amazon was around $100, with free shipping and sales tax it goes to $112. So I'm hoping maybe from $80 to $90. Hopefully that isn't wishful thinking...

It's not just you, I saw it also and now it is gone from the list.

Just as a point of reference, Best Buy had the Breaking Bad BD in regular packaging for $74.99 back in late August 2014. I think it was a deal of the day type of thing. I thought it was a bit pricey, but I bought it anyway.

It looks like Amazon only carries the barrel BD version.

For some reason, the regular packaging doesn't show up in Amazon's search engine. However, I have the item saved in my cart. It's around $132 at the moment.
