Absolutely yes. I used to know a number of the local (within 50 miles or so) managers when I bought heavily from them for resale.

I'm not totally sure what the criteria is; one would think sales volume; but it takes inventory to increase sales.......

I'll speculate the locations closer to certain big media distribution warehouses (often close to Walmart's distribution chain) receive more media items. Most of Big Lots' DVD and CD inventory comes from wholesale auction bidding on lots the big distributors like dumping from their warehouses. Dollar Tree does much the same thing.

I can't figure out how my local store puts things on clearance. I just bought Hitman for $1.25. It was the only one of a few titles I don't already own which were marked down. There were probably 4-5 other copies of the same film still priced at $5.

Noticed that at a store last weekend. Hadn't been in one in ages, so spent some time finding $3 titles on the display, then a clerk asked me if I'd seen the bunch at the front of the store. Once I checked -- they were all just dumped in a shopping cart -- I found at least four of the discs already in my hands (at higher prices) marked down to $1.50.

the same titles come in as part of different batches (identified by different BL SKUs). For e.g 'Christmas in Connecticut' came in as part of a Christmas batch and soon on its heels as another batch. In the last week of December, the christmas batch went on clearance. The stores just identify a batch (thru the SKU) to put out on clearance and hence your observations. What I can't understand however is the same title sporting both a $3 and a $5 sticker in different parts of the same display. Am attibuting that to human tagging error.

I nabbed those 2 a few weeks ago ago. Haven't watched them yet (the pile is HUGE!). I remember enjoying #1 on dvd, so I will likely enjoy both.

Until the new Superstore near my house opens sometime in September, it's somewhat of a drive either East or Northwest for the next closest store; so unless I read of something here I'm not bothering.

Found a modest haul of $3 and $5 3D combo titles at a Michigan store this weekend. These weren't on the rack last weekend, and there were some other new-ish odds 'n ends, but not sure if this is new stock or just stuff that was taking up space in the back. Thus, ymmv.

PUSS IN BOOTS - 3D/Blu/DVD/Digital - $5
KUNG FU PANDA - 3D/DVD - $5
47 RONIN - 3D/Blu/DVD/Digital - $3
PARANORMAN - 3D/Blu/DVD/Digital/Ultraviolet - $5

Also got:
HOLIDAY INN - Blu/Digital - $3
RUMBLE IN THE BRONX - Blu (markdown to $2.50)

New batch at the Superstore. Blu's were mostly either very weak titles, or titles I hadn't heard of. I bought 1 in blu: In Old Arizona $3.00. Blind buy.

Lots of new dvd's also. Again, a combination of stuff I wouldn't have paid $1.00 for; with a few decent titles overpriced for liquidation at $5.00. There was a Guillermo Del Torro title I wasn't familiar with I would have done a blind buy on at $3, but not at $5. Again 1 blind buy for me on dvd: Cary Grant & Audrey Hepburn is Charade at $3.00

In Old Arizona is a good, early, western. It has the distinction of being the first all-talking sound-on-film movie made. Director Raoul Walsh, who was to star as The Cisco Kid, lost an eye in an accident shortly before filming (a jackrabbit crashed through his car windshield with glass and the rabbit hitting him in the face). He was replaced in the Cisco Kid role but, on the BR, you can see a few pre accident shots of Walsh (as a cowboy on horseback under a big hat in long shots with bluffs in the background). I stumbled on that one a couple of months back and snagged one. I already had a copy on DVD, which is a very good print, but $3 for a BR was impossible to pass up.

I really like Charade. It's absolutely worth a $3 blind buy.

There wasn't much "new" here today. Like you observed, a few decent titles but overpriced at $5 with some at $10 (mostly those Disney "previously viewed" titles but also a couple of others). There were several I might have purchased at $3 but not at all for $5.

This set.

The store I went to had them, but since they're all children's films & I don't do 3d, I didn't think to mention it. If Puss In Boots had been $3 I would have picked it up.

Of everything listed Megamind is head and shoulders above the competition. Also fantastic 3D.

I think I'd go with KFP 3D as the best of the bunch, but Megamind is excellent. Peabody and Sherman I thought was quite fun though I understand why folks didn't like it as much

2 more Big Lots stores here just closed, and one I went to drastically reduced their movie selection- just a meager pile of discs on a shelf, no more free-standing area. Big Lots is why I have so many damn DVDs in the first place, but the party may be finally over.

The new "superstore" 5 minutes from my house is supposed to open this month.

I do agree 100% that there film selection is nothing like 5 years ago or so.

I saw

How The West Was Won $5
Holiday Inn $3
Time Traveller's Wife $3

HTWWW was the standard version of film no smilebox version.
Holiday Inn was the version prior to last year's 75th Anniversary edition but I believe it is the same transfer of the film. I think the only difference is this version doesn't have a second disc with the recent Broadway version of the film.

Never seen Megamind, but I did pick up Rise of the Guardians and Peabody & Sherman from my local BL. Watched Rise of the Guardians yesterday w/ the toddler, it's surprisingly well done. Lots to appreciate and gorgeous vq/aq as well.

I did like this one, but thought the first one Legend of the Guardians might be better. Both are excellent for 3D however. They didn't do all that well at the Box Office so I was disappointed though not surprised they didn't continue the series.

Picked up some 3D blu mentioned above for $5.

Also found SON OF GOD - digibook for $3 ( BD + DVD + 28page book) it is hard to locate since it has a cardboard covering on it and looks like DVD size. I accidentally stumbled upon it.

Also Turbo BD+DVD+DC with toy for $5.

The Tacoma Wa 72nd superstore hasn't opened. False alarm.

I did go to the other superstore on Pearl. The majority of their new stuff was last week's Dollar Tree stuff at (mostly) $5. Some of the $T BR's were on dvd at BL! They still had a ton of the animated stuff on blur. Would have bought the 2 Shrek's & Puss at $3, but since I don't need them that bad & I'm on a budget 9as I keep reminding myself) I passed.

Some of the good $10 titles (I think Disney) have a black "previously viewed" sticker on them. Are they really previously viewed or they are just required to put that sticker by some crazy studio rules. Any one bought any of these.

Hard to know, but some of them were likely recovered from Rental sites, some may have been demo or open returns or unsold merchandise returns possibly with original wrappings damaged . Some of them have unused DMR slips and some don't

The two I've purchased from that lot were PV titles with the standard ring sticker on them and are missing the Disney Movie Rewards code.

Mine had a few:

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales - BR in very good condition. A couple of very minor scratches. DVD - fair condition with quite a few scratches.

Tomorrowland: BR in very good condition. Quite a few fingerprints/smudges that should clean easily and a few minor scratches (it played and I didn't look at the surface first or I'd have cleaned it). DVD - fair- condition. More scratches than the POC DVD and more fingerprints.

I'd not even looked at the DVDs before you asked. I figure both will play but they look like typical rental discs. The BRs look like they may have received only a small handful of plays.

And I discovered there is a digital code in Tomorrowland (it earned 150 points at disneymovierewards so I'd expect it to work at Movies Anywhere too). It also has the slipcase (if you're into those). The cases on both are in excellent condition.

I must also add that I purchased both, on separate occasions, while redeeming a $5 off $15 purchase and I always spend no more than $16 when redeeming those coupons. So... for the media I consider the $5 to come off that and that I paid full price for the snacks used to get to the coupon minimum. That really helps me justify paying $10 each for rental titles. IMHO, even these Disney ones, shouldn't sell for more than $5 if they were rentals but they're almost always prices as if they were simply used (which almost always are better condition).

**EDIT**
I entered the Tomorrowland code at Movies Anywhere and it redeemed. It's already synced with my Amazon Prime videos.

Thanks for letting us know!

IMO, $10 is too high for rental dumps.
