Re: Trade and Save at Best Buy
I brought in 2 discs w/o a case (Stealth bby preview disc and a dvd about tigers that I got for free in the mail) and 2 in paper sleeves w/o any upc codes on them. They took the ones in paper sleeves and I got MIB and 12 monkeys, but the cashier put the coupons and receipt in my bag. Guess I can go back for 2 more

I fear that when I go back with another 5 DVD's, it won't go as smooth.

Re: Trade and Save at Best Buy
I picked up the following yesterday:
Predator
Sherlock Holmes
Taxi Driver
Purchasing Predator is a no-brainer if you're planning on seeing X-Men: First Class. It's equivalent to buying an early ticket and getting a free Blu-ray!
Watch out though. I thought The Hollywood Movie Money would be inside the case, but it's actually on the back side of the shrink wrap. I threw it away and then had to retrieve it from the trash.

Funniest story so far is the first store I was at and the CSR not knowing how to ring the transaction, so she calls over the Team Leader who looks and sees my stack to trade in-- HBO samplers, a MTV disc of 2007 shows, and movie preview discs (each has case, UPC, etc, so...), all that I got from Best Buy for $0.01 each during promotions,....that I'm now giving back to them for $5 credit.
"YOU'RE giving US these?!", he says, I say "yep!" and complete the transaction ....Bwahahahaha!

Here's a list of $9.99 titles after $5 coupon:

Re: Trade and Save at Best Buy
I tried to get office space for the websites listed price of 7.99 and was told the same thing. The manager was kind of a dick about it and told me to call corporate. I did and talked to a woman who told me that the price should be 8 making the movie 3 for me. She tried to explain it to the manager who still tried to argue against it. In the end I got 10 best buy bucks or whatever for my trouble. I find it odd that instead of having me give them a dvd and sell me the bluray for 7.99 - 5.00 they give me 10.00.

Re: Trade and Save at Best Buy
Do they take PPV copies from Blockbuster or Hollywood with stickers on the cases? I guess I could scrounge up some clean cases, if necessary, but it'd be easier to just dump 'em as is.

Re: Trade and Save at Best Buy
I just visited my local BB and grabbed the following:
Predator X 2 (each with a free ticket to X:Men First Class)
Tears of the Sun
Inside Man
Traitor
total of $25
and I also grabbed
2 copies of Casino at $7.99 (each with a free ticket to Fast Five)
Grand total after a $4 GC
$39.03 out the door for 7 blu's , with 4 movie tickets
And strangely enough, all 4 of the ticket codes were on the backside of the moviecash stickers which were outside of the shrinkwrap, so I have not had to open Casino or Predator....

Re: Trade and Save at Best Buy
Went smoothly for me. Picked up Robocop, MIB, and Road House (impulse blind buy for $5). I traded in 2 copies of Bourne Identity HD-DVD (no clue how I ended up w/3 copies of this disc, but I only need 1) and two crap DVDs that would get me $0.25 on Amazon Trade-In.
So, I have one $5 Off Coupon remaining...hopefully another title on the list that I'd buy drops to $9.99 or so before 6/4/11.

Re: Trade and Save at Best Buy
So I had no problems doing this last night. The lady at customer service opened up everything I traded in and checked out the condition of each disc, but that might have been since I gave them complete crap.
I wanted to get Predator, just for the movie ticket and thanks to Thespian I also wanted to get Casino for the movie ticket (I don't know how I missed that one) but unfortunately they were sold out of both.
I did pick up:
Taxi Driver
Traitor
Kingdom
Dawn of the Dead
Tears of the Sun

Re: Trade and Save at Best Buy
went back yesterday and they had restocked. Picked up 3 more
Tears of the Sun
MIB
12 Monkeys
12 Monkeys was not in the regular display, but mixed in alphabetically in the Blu-ray section. The UPC was the regular one and not the stickered ones that were on the other two I got. But it took OK and I rang up all three on 1 receipt.
I don't know if others that got 12 Monkers had stickered UPCs or not, but got me wondering if the $5 off coupons would work on other BR's. I'm sure SOMEBODY tried.
I'm sure it's YMMV, but they should.

Re: Trade and Save at Best Buy
In answer to my unanswered question, they didn't seem to notice PPV cases; I just pulled the stickers off, leaving the base behind.
Traded Fifth Element (have BD), An American Carol (meh), Last Sentinel, Hamlet 2 and Fay Grim (crud, crap, and crap I turn off after 15 mins) and picked up Predator*, Office Space and Whip It.
Had a bit of a scare when the cashier said that I couldn't use the trade-in coupons for sale items and she'd just told the folks ahead of me the same. I whipped out the ad showing the sale prices with and without trades, so she got someone else who pointed out that the discounts don't show as applied until the transaction is concluded. Otherwise, no problem trading or buying.
* The copies of Predator on the kiosk didn't have X-Men tickets on them, but in the regular shelf stock, they did and had different covers like videogame Greatest Hits/Platinum Hits where the art is shrunk down and it says "GREAT MOVIES. GREAT MOMENTS" on top. Don't know what others are seeing, but that's what my Beast Buy had.
Also, is it my imagination or has the Waxy Ahnuld DNRiffic version of Predator been disappeared? All I saw were the old versions, albeit with different covers.

Re: Trade and Save at Best Buy

I wonder why BB or anyone (DVD2Blu) does this kind of crap. I'm sure they throw the discs away. Seems to just be a lot of paperwork and hassle. Why don't they just price them at the discounted price?

Re: Trade and Save at Best Buy
On Saturday I went to a different BB store (one that is usually a little better than my usual 100%-deny store) with a stack of various types of promo discs (all unopened) hoping I'd have the luck that other people have had trading those in, plus 3 actual movies to trade-in if they didn't take them because I knew that I have bad luck at my BB stores getting the same deals everyone else does (which is why I'm so anti-BB).
Surprise surprise... they wouldn't take any of the promo discs. They said "we can't take this kind of stuff... it has to be actual movies". I asked where it says that and showed them the wording in the promo. The employee said what would we do with promo discs? I said I don't know, but it doesn't say movies only and lots of other people on the Internet have reported success doing it at their BB stores. The answer was: well, not at this store. I asked the employee to check with a manager to make sure, the employee disappeared for a few minutes, came back and said the manager said no. Who knows if the employee really checked or not, but once again I realized I was going to lose this fight with BB as I do most of the time. So I said I brought 3 movies just in case because I figured the BB stores in my area would be hardnosed about it and make up their own rules.
So, there were no further problems getting 3 BDs for $5 each (they actually had what I wanted in stock), but I guess I'm one of the few who had to trade in actual movies instead of promo crap. Now in 31 days watch all 3 of the BDs I got go on sale for $4.99 without trade-in. I would've also gotten Men in Black and something else if they had taken my promo discs.
After wasting time going through the list and considering the prices, those 3 trades are probably all I'm going to do. I see no point in getting things like Tears of the Sun when it's only the theatrical version or several other Sony catalog titles where Sony dropped most of the extras.

Re: Trade and Save at Best Buy
Clearly they intended for Movies to be traded in and not free/penny promo discs. No wonder why you continue to have problems at Best Buy - it's because you are trying to screw them. It's because like you that get these programs closed down/cut short. Stop trying to find a freakin' loophole to save $5 and just do what the ad is intended for.

Re: Trade and Save at Best Buy
Gotta disagree on this point. The rules clearly state that the trade-ins have to be manufactured discs (no burned copies) including original packaging, and cannot be adult content. A promotional disc is manufactured and not adult, and as long as it has its original packaging, then it has indeed met the criteria of the promotion as described. If Best Buy wants to reject promotional discs, then Best Buy needs to have a "No promos" stipulation.
It's not our responsibility to write their fine print.

It's obvious what they mean. But by all means, let's get this pulled early!

if it has a barcode and meets the stipulations then I see no problem with it. as the previous poster said.. it's not up to us to write their fine print... If a company doesn't word it properly it's not my fault and I'll hold em to the line on it. (although I do agree that Manzana IS a whiny little hater on most things)
