You might find this thread on the AVSforum helpful.

Re: Amazon.com Discounts and Deals on Blu-ray

Just know that the thread is geared to comparing everything on an equal scale of how "good" the format can look rather than each film being judged on how accurately it looks which negates the tier concept.

A film of a certain age, film stock, budget, shooting conditions etc. may be listed in a lower tier but the release may actually be entirely transparent to what it was intended to be. There can be a huge difference in the quality of the release within the same tier with one having notable issues with the transfer and another being accurate to the film. The Third Man and Close Encounters of the Third Kind listed in the same tier as The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Elf as an example.

Actually, even without this issue, one should always read reviews before buying any disc. There are all kinds of issues that happen with some releases/pressings. Doesn't everyone do this?

Most of us here...sure. The average person...no.

BTW: the original BD for Predator is $9.99.

I was waiting for this to be in the sub-30 range.

I was on amazon and just saw this! I might just bite on the Watchmen.. All the marketplace sellers have a higher price on the item too.

Very slowly working through the HD-DVD to Blu-ray conversion of Universal's discs.

Can you only watch the ultimate cut? Or can you choose between the extended cut or ultimate cut?

Ultimate cut (3.5 hours) is the only option on this release.

Ultimate Cut only. That's why I wish they would release just the ultimate cut with audio commentaries as a solo disc for a lot cheaper, as I already have the director's cut and black freighter/under the hood, and I don't care to have the motion comics.

This is why you wait. And only buy the DC of it for that version and the UC for everything (almost)

Im still deciding if I want to buy this or not. Having the Ultimate cut would be nice, but I know when I watch this again, I'm not gonna want to sit through the Black Freighter during the movie. Sure I can FF, but its annoying. I dunno if I should just go for this, or just grab the DC when I see it @ $10 again.

Same here. Don't know how they can call it the "Ultimate Cut" without including the Director's Cut as well. I guess I'll wait until the DC is below $10.

Because it's not called the "Ultimate Edition with Director's Cut and Ultimate Cut."

"Cut" refers to a version/edit. "Ultimate" means "final." This is the "Ultimate Cut." In other words, the final edit that the creators plan to release. It is, I am absolutely sure, not the final time you will see this on some kind of disc.
Look for a 3D-enhanced 10-year anniversary edition on UV-ray.

Exactly. Now if something says "ultimate collection" I expect every cut and every special feature to be included. But when I hear "ultimate cut" I immediately know that there is at least one other cut that is missing. In this case, two of the three cuts are missing, unless you count the digital copy of the theatrical.

Yeah I saw this earlier while browsing Amazon. You missed Gunslinger Girl s2, which is the same price as s1.

Pretty good deals imo. Were there better deals in the past? Yeah. But that doesn't stop these from being good prices until someone invents a time machine :P

Re: Amazon.com Discounts and Deals on Blu-ray

Don't really know where to post this since this particular deal is dead now, but I just got an order in from Amazon Marketplace for The Edge Blu-ray. When I ran across it, three sellers were offering it- all of them for under $3 NEW.
Who were these three sellers? Deep Discount, Digital Eyes/DVD Planet, and Critics Choice.
They had this, Chain Reaction and Independence Day all on Blu and all priced under $3.

I went to search to try to compile a fuller list to post here, but an hour after I found it, the price was back up to more typical levels. I didn't say anything earlier because I honestly didn't expect it to go through- but it did and it's in my hands as I speak.

So I guess the point of the post is for you guys to keep your eyes out for the marketplace prices on stuff you're interested in, 'cause you never know. I know it's really iffy and very much a YMMV, but with these three companies on there, and likely using similar price matching software, odd ball deals like this might show up with some more frequency.
