Re: This Is Us (NBC) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 9/20/16
Did she tell you that she's a 9 but that you're bringing their score down?
I'm probably too cynical for this show, I can barely contain my eyeroll at reveals like "oh he's feeding the cat" or the "who came first" brother/sister thing, or even the selfish brother immediately realizing how selfish and immature he is. Or even the "I'm going to leave a voice message at work" thing. That said, the show is good, the music hits that nostalgia feeling and I feel like the actors are decent.
It does seem like with the kind of audience they're going for, they can't go really that far outside the lines with the storylines. For instance, I doubt they show that Milo is still around but divorced, otherwise that would pretty much ruin the love story they're trying to get us invested in. The "real" dad at this point can't have a sinister side. We're obviously going to get storylines around his impending death and how it's all mom's fault they didn't get to spend time together.

The "twists" seem natural to me since they are about the viewers learning the history of the characters. Given network and cable TV is mostly littered with super hero adaptations and crime procedurals, it's great to have a show like this doing well.
I liked her singing this week, and her relationship stuff..
The stuff with the brother is bad though, hopefully the move apart will help both character developments
That has been least favorite storyline so far.

This is appointment television for my wife and me now.
Really great series so far. Yes, it's hard not to cry watching the show, but the writing, and acting, is superb.
Being in NBC the show is compared to Parenthood of course, but Parenthood was more complex. But This is Us is still young, the episodes have been good, some surprises, etc. but we would know how big the show is when they have those episodes before breaks. You know, the middle season finale, or stuff like that, when a lot of people is watching and they show an episode that's suppose to be amazing. And it would be hard to see what they can do on those episodes, with all the reveals we have received.

Whatever issues the show may have (and it does have them), I enjoy it. To the best of my memory, it's my favorite new show of the season (along with Westworld).

This is easily our favorite show now. Has yet to disappoint. In this last episode they even got me to like the Manny. Found him annoying till now, but I'm sure that was the point. And those of us guessing both parents were dead were at least half right.

Wow, this past week's episode was really well done.
Really moving scenes, especially Kevin's chat with Randall's daughters.
I liked seeing some of the backstory of Jack and Rebecca before the kids as well.
So now we know that Jack is deceased in 2016. I'm sure at some point they will address Jack's fate and what led Rebecca to hooking up with Miguel. But, we don't know when that happens. Could happen sometime in the 1990's or even early 2000's for all we know and that's probably a future season. I actually hope they save that for a future season.

Solid episode this past week. Really enjoyed the scenes with Randall and Jack.
Some really poignant father-son bonding with Jack encouraging Randall to be better even though he was holding back.
at present day Randall during career day at the piano.

Kevin vs Funeral... Kate vs Teen Angst... Randall vs the Piano... Jack vs the Desk Job... all brilliant!
Best new show on TV (with Designated Survivor a close second)!

Great episode this past week
at Kevin and Randall's fight and the Seth Meyers cameo. Some pretty tense flashbacks with them as teens.
That new Manny ad looked like Morris Chestnut.
William and Beth eating pot brownies
and then he spilled the beans about knowing Rebecca.
Milo said recently we're probably not going to find out Jack's end for some time.
It was interesting how this episode was built around the lifespans of Rebecca and Jack's washing machines.

That episode with the Steelers was pretty good.
Don't know if it was karma but the day after I watched it Antonio Brown, Big Ben, and Leveon Bell smoked the Colts.
