I figured the grandparents at the end would have just been the wife's parents. I assumed both the parents were dead.

Love this show! Great cast and chemistry. Really amazing to see Sterling K. Brown on TV again so soon after American Crime Story too.

I love heavy, epic shows like Game of Thrones, but it's great to see a more "normal" show too. I'm right in the same age bracket as all of the main characters as well so this really clicks for me.

Man, talk about a pretty strange family. Not bothering with calling your kids or siblings on their birthday.

I'm starting to hear people complain about Green Arrow's storyline and how much it brings down the show. What do you guys think?

It probably happened off-screen. Randall mentions to Kevin at the end of ep 2 that he had been texting with Kate frequently. They wanted to keep the twist a secret until the end.

If you freeze-frame Randall's computer monitor, it shows an email from Kevin with the subject saying something like "It's our birthday bro!"

I must be dumb because I just realized that the new "grandpa" at the end was the dad's buddy who was lusting after his wife.

This show is so much better than I thought it was going to be. It is hitting all the right chords.

Agreed. My first thought was they were both dead, but it turns out at least mom is alive and well. I'm sure part of that was just wishful thinking though because I really can't stand them trying to make younger actors look old. Even for that brief moment at the door both actors just looked terrible.

Love this show so far. Reminds me of the show Parenthood when it was at its best.

Re: This Is Us (NBC) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 9/20/16

Caught up with this show over the weekend - really enjoyed the first two episodes.

Loved how the reveal at the end of the pilot was initiated by a cigarette (in a hospital, no less). Didn't see the reveal at the end of the 2nd episode coming at all either. Hopefully they're not going to continue with this at the end of every episode; likely won't succeed.

Also reminder, this isn't airing this week. It returns Tue 10/11 in a new timeslot (9pm).

Loving it so far. The "what's our parenting score" conversation actually prompted me to have the same with my wife. She said we're at a 7, but can definitely do better.

I like how it doesn't go where you think it will (or at least I think it will) especially the conversation between Beth and William.

Can't believe I got sucked into this one but it happened. I agree with you by rushing 'reveals' at the end of every ep. I can quickly tune out if that is constantly going to be a thing.

Well, that's clearly not the case for the mother. We'll see whether that is the case for the father.

I generally like this... but the overweight sister and actor brother storylines are pretty bad. I really enjoy all the other stuff. But whenever those 2 are on screen I feel like the show really shifts in quality.

I liked her singing this week, and her relationship stuff..

The stuff with the brother is bad though, hopefully the move apart will help both character developments

Re: This Is Us (NBC) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 9/20/16

Looks good ratings wise

Nielsen Overnights (Broadcast)
Returning ‘This Is Us’ finishes as top Tuesday show
New NBC drama shines with a 2.8 in 18-49s, outdrawing its 'Voice' lead-in
By Toni Fitzgerald, Media Life Magazine - Oct. 12, 2016

It appears that “This Is Us” is legit. That is, it looks like a hit.

NBC’s new drama led all shows on broadcast on Tuesday night, even besting “The Voice,” which has never happened. That’s right, no scripted program has ever topped its “Voice” lead-in on NBC.

“Us” averaged a 2.8 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen overnights, up 8 percent from its most recent episode two weeks ago. (It was preempted by the vice presidential debate last week, along with everything else on the Big Four from 9 to 11 p.m.)

“Us” became NBC’s highest-rated scripted show in the 9 p.m. Tuesday slot in nine years, since “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” drew a 2.7 in February 2007.

It became the first new drama to see a week-to-week gain this season, and it finished a full point ahead of the night’s No. 2 drama, and “Chicago Fire.”

Glad to see the ratings are doing well. Decent 3rd episode. It was arguably overplayed during the course of the episode, but was good to hear Jackson Frank's Blues Run the Game.

Did she tell you that she's a 9 but that you're bringing their score down?

I'm probably too cynical for this show, I can barely contain my eyeroll at reveals like "oh he's feeding the cat" or the "who came first" brother/sister thing, or even the selfish brother immediately realizing how selfish and immature he is. Or even the "I'm going to leave a voice message at work" thing. That said, the show is good, the music hits that nostalgia feeling and I feel like the actors are decent.

It does seem like with the kind of audience they're going for, they can't go really that far outside the lines with the storylines. For instance, I doubt they show that Milo is still around but divorced, otherwise that would pretty much ruin the love story they're trying to get us invested in. The "real" dad at this point can't have a sinister side. We're obviously going to get storylines around his impending death and how it's all mom's fault they didn't get to spend time together.

Re: This Is Us (NBC) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 9/20/16

yeah, I feel like I'm also a bit too cynical for this show. I really enjoyed Parenthood cause, it was a bit more realistic in shit, this show, while enjoyable, just suffers greatly from relying too much on twist. Which is crazy when I think about it in terms of it being a family drama. You really don't need that many twists.

WHAT WILL THEY REVEAL NEXT?!
