This Is Us (NBC) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 9/20/16

Sometimes life will surprise you. Starring Mandy Moore ("A Walk to Remember"), Milo Ventimiglia ("Heroes," "Gilmore Girls") and Sterling K. Brown ("The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story"), this refreshingly honest and provocative series follows a unique ensemble. As their paths cross and their life stories intertwine in curious ways, we find that several of them share the same birthday and so much more than anyone would expect. From the writer and directors of "Crazy, Stupid, Love" comes a smart, modern dramedy that will challenge your everyday presumptions about the people you think you know. Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, Chris Sullivan, Susan Kelechi Watson and Ron Cephas Jones also star. TV-14

Although, I know this genre probably doesn't appeal to most here. Doing 1 thread because of the uncertainty of it's appeal.

It'll be interesting to see where they go from here... There are obviously built in storylines but I'd think they need to fast forward at least one of them asap.

Spoiler:
Very good show. My wife watched it with me... and we haven't watched a show together in a long time.
Looking forward to next week.
... and I've got to watch AoS today via On Demand.
Line of the night: "Yeah, this is good. Especially since your last gig was a 3-episode arc on Nashville."

Count Dooku...thanks for the laugh. Although it looks like it had an okay start last night (still need to watch, tivoed it), so the real trick for the show will be to retain a good chunk of its audience for the 2nd and 3rd episodes...as we have all seen shows with promising 1st ep numbers see their audience plummet before as little as 3 episdodes have aired.

We just finished this. Astoundingly good. We'll keep watching. Great twist at the end.

Just finished the Pilot.
That was pretty awesome. Amazing twist at the end. I did not catch that at all how the 3 storylines were linked.
It will be very interesting to see where they go with it in future weeks.
Funny how this series was also created Dan Fogelman, who created Pitch. And that show also had an interesting storyline twist.

I read this thread, and some spoilers before watching the show...
I almost forced my wife to watch this with me, she was complaining the first minutes but she quickly went quiet. She said she liked it when it was over.
I thought it was a great beginning.

I sure didn't want to start a show like this one because I just don't want to invest the time to keeping up with it but there is so much good buzz I recorded the pilot yesterday.
I hope I don't like it?

It's clear the parents are dead in the current time line. Not sure how well the show would work if that wasn't the case.

Picked up for a full season: 18 episodes total.
Picked up for a full season: 18 episodes total.
This Is Us creator (Dan) Fogelman had designed the heavily serialized, decades-spanning dramedy for shorter, cable-style seasons. I hear he originally was shooting for a 16-episode freshman season, with the number eventually adjusted up to 18.
“We are thrilled. This order for a complete first season of 18 episodes is exactly what we’d wanted and hoped for,” Fogelman said. “We’d carefully mapped out an 18-chapter story for the first year of the show, and this allows us to follow through with our exact initial intent. And to get the order so early on is a tremendous show of confidence and a boost for our entire cast and crew.”

Fucking Miguel!
So yeah, full season and they have delivered in both episodes. how many episodes critics received in advance? It seems they are loving it, and the network is liking all the buzz online.
Last night, after finishing watching the episode live, I checked Facebook and Twitter, and 90% of the people commenting were women. I don't think this is a women show, or female oriented, or something like that, but thought that unscientifically finding was interesting.

Oh shit!!! Javy!!!
Wow, another curveball in the storytelling. Didn't expect that at all.
Now the question is if Jack is dead or if he and Rebecca divorced.
