re: Twilight Time Blu-Ray Deals

...and "Fright Night." I have no doubt a Sony version is on the horizon. However, I was able to order the highly anticipated Eureka steel book from Zavvi—looks gorgeous. It will be the first Region B import played on my new "region-free" player this Christmas. I am seriously going to think twice before picking up any Sony catalog releases from Twilight Time in the future. Anyone wanna guess whether Sony will re-release "Oliver!?" It will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary and I have little doubt that title will soon be considered for re-release by Sony.

re: Twilight Time Blu-Ray Deals

Nobody is waiting. The musical "Oliver!" is currently available via Twilight Time for just $7.95. The point being made was that if Sony continues to turn around and release more of these "licensed" titles, there is no point in forking over the inflated bucks being demanded by Twilight Time. The decision by Sony to license mass-appeal films like "Oliver!," "Sleepless in Seattle," "Fright Night," and "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" makes no sense if they are going to turn around and release them again at budget prices. They should open the vaults for small distributors like Twilight Time, Olive Films, Kino/Lorber, Shout Factory and Criterion to release more obscure fare, but these mainstream titles should be handled by the studio themselves.

Plus, as you pointed out, many of these titles are available to import and that is precisely why I am finally looking to acquire a region free player. With my purchase of the Region B, Eureka steelbooks of "Fright Night" and "Enemy Mine," I have no plans on sitting out the import game any longer.

I thought I saw Jane Eyre on the sold out list, but it was active again last night after TT sent out the sales extension e-mail... --Peter

re: Twilight Time Blu-Ray Deals

I just checked Facebook and evidently many of the heavily discounted titles are in low quantities. That's not a surprise but many will likely be around for awhile yet since this sale ends in just minutes.

re: Twilight Time Blu-Ray Deals

Three soon-to-be OOP Twilight Time Truffaut titles are being cleared out at $9.95 each at twilighttimemovies.com and Screen Archives

BRIDE WORE BLACK (EDIT: looks like this one's sold out at TT's site)
MISSISSIPPI MERMAID
THE STORY OF ADELE H

Also, for Valentine's Day, at both the Twilight Time and Screen Archive sites:

ST. VALENTINE'S DAY MASSACRE - $14.99 (until Feb. 15)

By the way, is it worth changing the title of this thread to simply "Twilight Time Blu-Ray Deals" or something like that, since they have more offers than the old $10 deal these days.

Thanks. Ordered.

BTW, 'Zulu', 'Equus' (also part of the 7 for $70 deal) and 'American Buffalo' are all $9.95 each

And the 7 for $70 bundle deal is still going on: http://www1.screenarchives.com/bundle.cfm

Also worth noting that SAE has copies of RUNAWAY TRAIN signed by Eric Roberts up for grabs with a minimum $149.75 purchase, for those so inclined.

This is the first autographed one that has really caught my eye, but looking over my wish list, I only see 3 titles (besides Runaway Train) that I would actually want (and I would need 2 more full price titles). It sucks because Runaway Train is one of my wants and having somebody like Eric Roberts sign it is icing on the cake. *sigh* oh well.

Re: Twilight Time Blu-Ray Deals

Just got an email announcing that the Truffaut films have been added to the Bundle section, which technically makes them 5 cents more expensive than if you bought them outside the bundles, but hey.

Haven't actually checked their Facebook feed to see what the actual numbers are, of course, but the email mentions "low quantities" for:

BONJOUR TRISTESSE
MINDWARP
BELOVED INFIDEL
ONLY GAME IN TOWN
THE RAPTURE
EQUUS

. . . and "very low quantities" for:

THE BRIDE WORE BLACK
THE RAINS OF RANCHIPUR

Re: Twilight Time Blu-Ray Deals

Interesting. I wonder if they'll continue on down the 2014 list now: Man Hunt? Killer Elite? Salvador? Dogs of War? Che!, La Bamba, Vanishing, Audrey Rose, Believers, etc.? I'd imagine there's at least a few low-sellers in that bunch.

Thanks, Brian T! As soon as I saw your post on Monday, I ordered the two Truffauts that were still in stock. This was my first time ordering from Twilight Time, and I'm super-impressed that the discs are now in my hands, three days later.

Does anybody have any intel that perhaps Criterion will pick up these three titles after TT's licensing period is over?

That's what am hoping for - won't be placing any more orders with these two title increments unless there's at least 5 new ones. There is of course the risk of losing some on the wait, but such is the game

waiting for 3 more. have a feeling its gonna happen pretty soon. With media sales falling like nine-pins, TT ought to be pretty realistic about what titles will sell at original prices

Re: Twilight Time Blu-Ray Deals

Got the email about this sale this morning and have already set aside a few things, including, as usual, some duplicates to sell to help offset the higher prices paid during all the previous sales. I suppose they have to blow this stuff out as the licenses must be getting close to expiring (??), but between this and SAE's 'bundle' sales, I'm surprised anyone would ever pay full price (or even the $19.99 sale price) for anything in their catalog going forward.

SAE also offers the code SHIPPING10 to get 10% off shipping. Not sure if it applies to both shipping options, though, but hopefully it does.

I saw that SAE has a shipping discount, but generally speaking who is cheaper for shipping?

Prices have changed.

Looks like those remaining copies of 10 to Midnight went fast at SAE, but still available at TT.

Re: Twilight Time Blu-Ray Deals

I decided to fill in some Woody Allen gaps with the following:

LOVE AND DEATH
RADIO DAYS
SHADOWS AND FOG
STARDUST MEMORIES
ZELIG

I've been hemming and hawing about whether or not to sell my other TT Allen blus and grab the Arrow boxsets. Despite being region free, I'd rather have region A discs when available. Thankfully this sale made it a much easier financial pill to swallow to just stick with the TT.

Remember, in addition to the issue of shipping costs, SAE has some older titles not available on the Twilight Time site.

Kings go forth (1958) (special promotion)
9.95
audrey rose (1977) (special promotion) 9.95
the bounty (1984) (special promotion) 14.95
hawaii (1966) (special promotion) 14.95
broadway danny rose (1984) (special promotion) 9.95
i could go on singing (1963)(special promotion) 14.95
the glory guys (1965)(special promotion) 14.95
the fantasticks (1995-2000) (special promotion) 9.95

Surprising some of the $9.95 titles were not included in the recent bundle sale.

Disappointed that Cat Ballou didn't make the sale. Maybe selling well or almost sold out.

Re: Twilight Time Blu-Ray Deals

As much as I want Runaway Train, I think I'll play a waiting game with that one. However, Russia House and Hound of the Baskervilles are bought. SAE came out to a dollar and some change cheaper after shipping. Good stuff.
