if I do get an invitation from Nintendo, can I give that away for someone else to use and get it? because if so, I would be willing to give my invitation to someone for free.

In my experience, Target has consistently been on the earlier end of estimates (sometimes even a day or two earlier than estimated)…unless a preorder winds up being backordered, which happens more often with them than I’d like.

Wasn't able to secure one, but I didn't try very hard. Refreshed a few apps for maybe 10 minutes. I don't think Best Buy even went live at midnight like it was supposed to. Hopeful I'll be selected for the Nintendo direct release in a couple weeks.

Besides the fact that you haven't been a Nintendo Online member for over a year and won't get the priority invitation anyways.

I have a Switch Pro Controller. Why do I need a Switch 2 one? Let alone why spend $90 for one?

What date does your preorder list? My Walmart order says June 5th. Target says estimated June 11th. I know it's way early to know either way but that kind of sucks. Returns are tied to the serial number of system itself right? So it's not like I could open up my Walmart order and return it later with my Target order?

Is there really not a better way to do this?
It’s pretty universal that any low stock high demand thing is a complete disaster. Whether it’s concert tickets, mega sales, sneakers, beanie babies, the experience is just universally shitty. Why haven’t we found a better way that doesn’t get everyone frustrated?
Cant these companies stress test their websites? Target was the worst with cancelations and glitches. It kept asking me for my address but wouldnt accept it when entered and others had to retype their payment info. Best Buy was no better with their delay. Then dropping everyone in the line. For my money Walmart was the smoothest experience. It let me joint the queue and didn’t drop me. Sure it took forever until I could purchase one but once it was my turn I was able to do it without any issues. I’m it sure if following the link posted here did anything or if it was coincidence and it was my time to check out.
I guess we’ll see how GameStop will do. I’m not very hopeful.
I guess it does beat physically standing in line. Although that can be a fun experience in a weird way. I did see people lined up at GS this morning on my way home.
One problem with online preordering a LOT of people are preordering more than one for backup. Then you have the scalpers running bots and friends and multiple computers. If it’s a physical preorder or even release that reduces the competition a lot.

Target needs a better queueing system that isn't "Error" when you try to check out.
Also, adding a new CC to their App is a nightmare (being prompted for your full CC# after every checkout attempt for a new card is stupid).
Walmart kept showing me an error when I tried to access the website.

I'm not sure there is a better way. Let's say you ramp up your servers to meet all the demand in real time and orders go through instantly without checking anything, scalpers will just get them all and/or the probably ancient backend inventory systems will mess up and overallocate. I'm not even positive they didn't overallocate with the orders that did go through yesterday.
It definitely seems like there's some "unfairness" going on with who gets through and when but I figure it's somehow related to regional demand with some regions getting through quicker than others. Or their queue system sucks.

I feel like they could make it more elegant, but functionally it'll always be a bit of a shitshow.
I did end up getting in on Target, so technically I got through twice in 20 minutes.

ok, that sucks. Would have loved to give it away. I figured I wasn't online long enough, but just in case, I will give it away if I get.

Since the Pro is my primary way of engaging with the console, I want it to be able to turn the console on with it. FWIW, the battery also charges faster, it has customizable rear buttons, it has a headphone jack, and, yeah, it has the C button. But for me, the appeal is really just turning the console on.

I want to get another Switch 2 controller, but I bet they will be hard to come by for a while.

But you wanted one? I guess that's one way to not get one.
Aren't they still available for preorder at places like BB? Or do you mean the joy con 2 and not the pro controller?
Either way accessories are what store make money on so I'd think they'd be readily available, maybe not right at launch but soon after.

I do wonder how many people requested one from Nintendo Direct, will be in line to receive one at or near launch, and now have a pre-order at a retailer. Has to be a huge amount of overlap, right?
I wonder what those people will do once they get a confirmation email from Nintendo, especially if Nintendo can't guarantee launch day delivery. Do they pass on the invite? Do they buy a second system for a family member or friend? Do they scalp? There has to be a lot of overlap. I hope they pass -- that is what I'll do. Hopefully that opens more system for those who didn't get in with the retail pre-orders.

Re: Are you going to wait till 12am for Switch 2 preorders?
I know there were many more Mario Kart World bundles than base consoles, but I wonder if the high demand for the bundle made it much (much, much?) easier to land a base console, even though the lower quantities and lower price would seem to make it an attractive target. I got my confirmation emails from both Target and Walmart at 12:06 AM. I would've had 'em even sooner if I didn't have to run to the other side of the house to grab my credit card since Target made me re-enter it. I didn't run into anything like I have with some previous console launches where product pages wouldn't load, carts would empty out, the payment process wouldn't complete, yadda yadda. The only real friction I encountered was Best Buy being stuck as "preorder coming soon" for so long and Target being fussy about me using my wife's RedCard for whatever reason (so no 5% off for me). But it's probably a moot point since the Target order is probably the one I'm cancelling.
I'd have to think so, yeah. If there's a way for me to say "no, thanks; open this up for somebody else", I will definitely do it.

I was, but after re-assessing all of the games that I have for my Switch and PS5 that I've had for years and haven't played, I decided that I needed to play what I have before I get anything more.
I will get one eventually, just not now.

My thinking was : I will probably be getting one eventually, and they won't be cheaper ever. And since I probably can't wait until a model refresh in 4 years, I might as well buy it now if I could. But didn't think it would be a huge deal if I missed the launch window.

I'm still a bit concerned about what happens in like 70 days with tariffs and the like, plus this is going to be hard to get all the way up until Xmas. At least that's my excuse. I probably won't have much to play on it until memory cards go way down.
