Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I won't buy a S2 game that isn't on the cart unless it's at some crazy price lower than digital. Only physical games I've purchased have been on-cart.

I guess I didn't understand how these download cartridges work. It's different than a code right, you can still lend it to a friend and sell it? It's more like a PS5 version of a PS4 disc based game -- the physical media is the license to play the download? So weird to do that for such a small game size. Actually now I'm curious, for those that have bought them, does it still do an online check to see if you can play it? I'd assume the cartridge is the check so you wouldn't need that but wasn't sure. |

Yeah, works like any other cartridge game once it's been downloaded. Insert the cart and play. I sort of get it if it were a huge game like Hogwarts or Star Wars Outlaws that require a lot of streaming data for environments. Here in a tiny, pretty but very simple, game like DQ7 Reimagined it doesn't make any sense.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Yeah, Nintendo just started their move to create 16 - 32gb cartridges for the Switch 2 after requiring 64gb since launch. No idea when those will finally be available though.
On the storage front, I bought a 512gb P9 Samsung Express card yesterday for $80 to replace my 256gb and can already feel like I fucked up by not getting the Lexar 1TB for $179. |
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Looking up the r-type thing:
So they got backlash because they were releasing a collectors edition that was a game key card. They went back and said they were going to make it a regular game card because Nintendo was offering smaller storage sizes: https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwi...ly_oncard_two/ Then they apparently removed that statement and revised it saying it would be on cartridge but be more expensive (but they would honor previous preorders which is a great thing for them to do). So apparently that info wasn't supposed to be released yet and you're right, no timeline on that at all: https://iningames.com/blogs/news/upd...dimensions-iii |
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
In my case it doesn't really matter to me because it's a small file and didn't take long to DL or take up much storage. Like I said, I thought it was was an issue of file size, not cost savings.

It's the worst of both worlds that's why everyone is so up in arms about it. It only benefits Nintendo to be able to upcharge on selling the cart. The biggest controversy now is the upcoming Pokopia game, a first party game, is on one of those stupid things. |

Did I miss an announcement? $20?! For each version? Why isn’t this going to be included on NSO Expansion?? This is why Nintendo’s reputation has been in the trash lately. -rolleyes- |
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
To drive sales when it's on sale for $6.99 in a month ?

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I won't disagree that to a segment of the internet Nintendo can't do anything right and are always too greedy. That said I never heard much complaining about the games that they put up on NSO, Most people think that service is a pretty good value though many wish there were more games on the service.

Some more info on the Pokémon Firered and Leafgreen versions for Switch: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/20...-switch-online A big wrinkle is that the Pokémon games are owned by The Pokémon Company, which Nintendo owns part of (32%), but not entirely owns. That's enough to make Pokémon a Nintendo exclusive video game line, but not enough where licensing can't occasionally be tricky. Nintendo can't just unilaterally put the Pokémon games onto NSO, they have to negotiate licensing and fees. Some of the spin-off Pokémon games are on NSO, but none of the "mainline" games, and that seems to be by choice. Either The Pokémon Company is asking insane licensing fees for inclusion in the subscription service, or they prefer to keep the mainline games a purchase-only product. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pok%C3%A9mon_Company |

But either way to charge $20 for straight up GBA ports is egregious. I wonder what the Pokémon fans think? This is the fandom that has a $600 Lego model and seemingly bottomless income for cards. |

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Pretty interesting article about the most likely reason these 2 games aren't part of the subscription service. Since all the subscription Nintendo classics have rewind capabilities and save states if they added these Pokemon titles to them it could mess with the Pokemon Home ecosystem since you can transfer monsters from every old game into the most recent game. And if you were save scumming with the rewind capabilities and save states it would be much easier to get the best version of monsters and add them to Pokemon Home which would flood the online community with these rare Pokemon.

https://www.polygon.com/pokemon-fire...transfer-home/ And we know. It’s Pokémon. They can charge whatever they want to for it and the mega fans will pay. We all know that’s the real reason. |

This has been out for a couple years on Steam with 98% positive reviews, but recently came out on Switch and Switch 2 so I'll mention it here.
Minishoot Adventures is a twin-stick shooter that plays similarly to a 2D Zelda game. Has a number of accessibility options to make gameplay easier or harder. It is quite enjoyable. |

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
The new firmware update includes a bunch of tweaks and updates, but the nearest is “handheld boost mode” which makes Switch 1 games play like they’re docked even in handheld mode.

Seems like because of the EU right to repair initiative, Nintendo will be offering a different version of the Switch 2 with a user replaceable battery in that region.

A demo for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is up in most markets and will probably be in the US eShop in a couple of hours. Anything you do can carry over to the full release.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Wanted to mention that the Resident Evil Generation Pack will be pulled from the eshop at the end of March. It's basically 90 bucks for Requiem, RE 7 Gold edition and RE Village Gold Edition. The games will still be available separately after that.
Coincidentally Newegg has a 2 x 50 Eshop gift card for $85 deal, which is slightly better than the non sale Costco price: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Combo...=Combo.4857352 |
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Physical Nintendo releases will have a price premium over digital starting with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book: $70 vs. $60, in that case. More at Game Informer.

But now that you see so few games in stores anymore, I guess they don’t care that much anymore, especially since the smaller percentage of people buying physical games are probably less price-sensitive.
Nintendo clarified to IGN that this isn’t a price increase for physical but a price reduction for digital. Color me absolutely floored and surprised that this isn't a price increase and instead an actual discount on digital media. I'm sure tariffs also have played a huge part in this decision as well. Nintendo makes a lot more money off of the direct digital sales of games over physical and this is a great way to squeeze more profit out without increasing the price for the consumer. It would be nice if they offer those cardboard cards with the code on them in store for the same reduced price as the digital. So option is still there for gift giving and may appease the retailers as well. |
