Good deal for eShop credit, especially for non-Costco members.

I was able to get Nintendo Museum tickets for our upcoming trip to Japan in March. Super excited since March was already sold out but they put some cancellations back up for a few dates today and there was one date that worked for our trip so I hopped on it.

I already hit the max. But this would have been a great deal.

My most played game was... Super Robot Wars Y. Like by a lot. Though Ball X Pitt is coming for it quickly for this year.

I've been playing a lot of MKW the last six months and still come across songs that just kind of jam, the OST just sounds good when cruising around.

A Tomodachi Life-focused Direct is scheduled for Thursday!

tanman 01-26-26 09:31 PM

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

Dang, saw there was a Direct but didn't know it was for that game. I have zero interest.

I noticed that they dropped the price of the Amiibos coming out. The new Mario ones are $25 now instead of $30.

Which kind of sucks because I think it worked better when they were $30 because nobody bought them and they all dropped in price pretty quickly so I was eventually able to pick them up on the cheap.

At $25 and since they are Mario Amiibo I don't think they'll drop in price so quickly.

Shoot, that makes it even less likely that we'll be getting MP2 & 3 remaster anytime soon.

I guess it's like an early Sims game but with Miis.

Nintendo issues a clarification. Sounds.....kinda plausible?

Update (1/29/26): Nintendo has now said it provided Walmart with the image that “incorrectly” showed Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2 coming to Nintendo Switch Online. In a statement to IGN, a Nintendo of America spokesperson has stated that these games are “not planned for release

Finally!

https://i.redd.it/jpddghti16gg1.jpeg

Excited for this one. I loved Ducktales and Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers on the original NES. It'll be great to finally play them with the NES retro controllers. Good news for physical is that the whole game is actually on the cartridge. So that's awesome.

I do wonder what's up with the remaster of Ducktales. Does anyone know why it's pretty much become lost media?

Today is the last day you can pick up a pair of Vouchers. Tamadochi life reportedly WILL be eligible.
I'm considering getting a final two...
(You have a year to redeem them)

There's no reportedly, Tamadochi Life is eligible and you can preorder it with a voucher now (source: I did it last night)

I thought you weren't interested in Tamadochi Life Decker?

Thinking about picking up a set of vouchers but having trouble deciding what to pick up. Oddly enough might just get digital versions of games I already have physically.

I'm not. But there are other games I might want and still don't own like Xenoblade Chronicles X. And I have a year to decide.

Financial report up by Nintendo. 17.4M Switch2 sales in 2025. 14M copies of MKW (mostly bundled), 4.25M Donkey Kong Bananza.
But MP4 didn't sell well at all.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

So not all doom and gloom for Switch 2 sales. As it seems like they’re only < 2 million away from their ambitious revised goal and still have a few more months to go. I still think they have an uphill battle though to keep the momentum going especially if they have to adjust the price up of the system and depending on why games they have coming out this year.

REALLY sucks about MP4. How do they know how much it sold if Nintendo didn’t state? < 1 million but it only had like a couple of months right?

With the Metroid director stepping down and terrible sales news it seems like it could be another long drought for Metroid fans. :(

Decker 02-04-26 07:48 PM

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

There's the chicken and egg question in play here : Did MP4 sell poorly because people aren't that interested in Metroid games, or because the game wasn't very good?

Adam Tyner 02-04-26 10:35 PM

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

It might be both! Metroid has never been an outrageously popular franchise, the other Prime sequels didn’t do big numbers, it’s been nearly 20 years since Metroid Prime 3, word of mouth was no great shakes, Nintendo did kind of a lousy job showing it off, early December isn’t really a prime (no pun intended) release date, and AFAIK, this doesn’t include whatever sales (probably nothing crazy, admittedly) in 2026 YTD.

Nintendo confirmed that between the Switch and Switch 2 editions, Metroid Prime 4 did break a million units (though neither individual release did, at least in CY 2025).

Option 2. I'd say the continued success of indie metroidvanias is proof enough that the players would love a new and well-made Metroid game. Which we got with Dread, but definitely not with the Prime series.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

Even though it might make things slightly more confusing, I think they're better off relabeling each game like they do with Zelda. I believe Megaman is going to do this as well. I wonder how many "new" customers are just turned off by the 4 in the name.

Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest success argue against that.

Well those already have great sales (at least in Japan). IIRC Metroid Prime does not. They are also largely not connected much. And at least for me, as a non casual, I do kind of feel at times like I need to replay 1-3 first before tackling 4.

As an aside I kind of wonder what a "casual fan" in the US thinks of Dragon Quest. Obviously it's so huge in Japan that it's ubiquitous there. But we've just had reimagined DQ 3, then 1&2, and now 7 release in that order (along with a bunch of side ones like Monsters, etc.)

Hollow Knight has a free S2 update out today.

Also, Constance, a new indie metroidvania was announced to launch on Switch in May. Currently just on Steam, I believe.

Hopefully the Dread series will be alive and well. As much as I love the Prime series I really love 2D Metroid. I really want to see more of why Mercury studios can do.

Fallout 4, Elders Scrolls 4, Witcher 3, how many people have played GTA 1&2? I get your point. And speaking to that I would have loved a MP2&3 remaster release and wonder how that would have pumped up hype for MP4. But I really don’t think it being called Metroid Prime 4 had anything to do with poor sales.

Honestly I think the time may have past for the FPS single player game. Every other FPS that comes out has a huge multiplayer component to it. MP came out at a very different time and was revolutionary when it did. It’s a vastly different environment now. Many FPS are F2P. And the popular single player games have evolved to incorporate a lot of other play mechanics. Like Fallout 4. Or offer an incredibly immersive experience and world like RDR2. You can’t come out with a huge hyped up game in development for years and have your new play mechanic be that every special weapon just has psychic in front of the name. Or a giant empty desert. I mean I loved MP4. I thought it was a good game. But it didn’t bring anything new to the table for fans. Let alone some thing new to garner new fans.

Decker 02-09-26 08:31 AM

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

I got my first physical game for the S2, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, and found that even though the game is only 6GB in size, it's not on the cartridge, it has to be downloaded. WTF? That is so weird.
I guess I didn't understand how these download cartridges work. It's different than a code right, you can still lend it to a friend and sell it? It's more like a PS5 version of a PS4 disc based game -- the physical media is the license to play the download? So weird to do that for such a small game size.

RichC2 02-09-26 08:35 AM

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

That's correct. It's cheaper for the manufacturer and lets you still loan it out or resell the game.

But yeah, it's also a trend I hope goes away. If I buy a physical release it's because I want the contents on the cartridge, not a permissions file.

Especially at full price.
