Strangely it showed as a free download online but gave me an error message when I tried to purchase it. Got it from the Switch itself though.

Just got a Switch 2 "for my kids" for Christmas.

I may have to open it up and make sure everything is properly set up and in working order so that they can play right out of the box on Christmas morning.

I actually checked out the first two free games yesterday
Retro Driving is somehow even worse than you'd imagine it would be. Bullets and Brains is actually a pretty competent and fun mission-based twin stick shooter with Roguelike elements. That one's not bad.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

So a couple new to the Switch world questions if you don’t mind.

The Costco package came with a year of the Unlimited Plus service. Am I correct in thinking that this comes with a boatload of classic games to play for free? I’m a nostalgia gamer, so think old gameboy and GameCube games will satisfy me.

Looks like I should probably buy a screen protector and a case.

Paying $50+ for a new game is something I’ll likely never do. Do the top tier titles ever go on sale anywhere? Or Nintendo shop credit?

TrevorDVDT is my username if we do the friends thing here.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

I certainly wouldn't call it a boatload of GC games, but I think it comes with 6. Many other older games though.
The first party Switch 2 have not yet been on sale besides the one day on Friday on Amazon that I mentioned before $10 off Bananza.

Costco typically sells Nintendo eShop Gift Cards for 10% off. Currently, at least online, you can buy $100 of gift cards for $90, or $200 for $180:
https://www.costco.com/digital-codes...ibility-ShipIt

First party and other AAA titles occasionally go on sale, either in the eShop or digital/physical copies at other stores. I use Deku Deals to track them:
https://www.dekudeals.com/

You can sign up and add games to your wishlist, and Deku Deals will alert you when it goes on sale. You can even set a threshold of how much you want to pay, although I'd check the pricing history for the game to confirm that you set a price that's realistically likely to happen.

For an example, Deku Deals shows that Gamestop is currently selling new physical copies of Mario and Luigi: Brothership, normally a $59.99 game, for $25.00:

One more thing, especially if you already have a nintendo switch online subscription:

There is a program (that I think is going away?) called Nintendo Switch vouchers, only for people who have a sub:
https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/pr...game-vouchers/

Basically 100 bucks in eshop points gives you two "vouchers" for any game on the list. And again you can get eshop points at a discount from costco. This is digital only and there are non nintendo games on there as well (and some that go for much cheaper than 50 bucks) but for the most part, it's a great way to get Nintendo 1st party games at release at a discount. These are all switch 1 versions but most of these can be upgraded to switch 2 versions for 10 bucks. But yeah check dekudeals first.

Will my 2 play every physical Switch game? Or are some 1 only or OLED only?

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

The voucher program sounds fairly good, especially since I’m Costco. So $90 gets me two games, leaning towards a Zelda game and Metroid Prime for now.

Edit to add: Oh, Advance Wars! Loved that back in the day.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

Every switch 1 to my knowledge plays every switch 1 game equally; the only caveat is if you have a Lite you might need joycons to play some games. However there are some switch 1 games that cannot be played on switch 2 because of compatibility issues, I'm sure there's a list somewhere but they should be listed in the eshop as such as well.

Both Zelda games and MP4 have upgraded Switch 2 versions. The upgrades cost $10 additional each, BUT your NSO + Expansion membership will give you the Zelda upgrades for free (as long as your membership is active). It does not provide free upgrades for MP4, Pokémon Legends Z-A or the upcoming Animal Crossing Switch 2 version (which is only $5)

Even so, it's cheaper to go this route and get the upgrades than buying the switch 2 versions directly.

But for Metroid and Pokemon Legends Z-A, if you want physical just check at costco, they have both switch 2 versions for 62.99 which is just a little more expensive than the eshop/voucher/upgrade method, particularly if you want physical.

He was talking about buying with the Vouchers. You can only buy Switch 1 games with vouchers, not S2 versions.

Right. Two vouchers for 50 bucks a piece, 10 dollar upgrades to switch 2 version for each, it's cheaper even if you go switch 1 + upgrade as long as you want 2 games, and even cheaper if you get cheap eshop points.

Decker 12-15-25 03:23 PM

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

Also Trevor, if you get a second Switch 1 or 2 for the family, digital games can be shared between two systems if you register both as yours. However those digital games can not played at the same time on two different systems.

Hang on are you talking about Metroid Prime Remaster? Which is a remaster of the original game? If so don’t use a voucher on that since it’s $40 normally. And sometimes $30 on sale. Advance Wars is awesome but it’s just a remake of the first two. Nothing really new besides their graphics upgrade.

The two Zelda games are a good choice especially since Tears of the Kingdom is a $70 game already. As is Metroid Prime 4 since that game just came out. The upgrade for the switch 2 version is $10 on that one.

Just to inform on overall playability, some games require a Switch 1 joy-con to work, as the joy-con either snaps into an accessory, or uses infrared. There's 9 titles, including 3 Labo kits:
https://www.nintendo.com/us/gaming-systems/switch-2/transfer-guide/compatible-games/
  • Ring Fit Adventure
  • 1-2-Switch
  • Everybody 1-2-Switch!
  • WarioWare: Move It!
  • Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 01: Variety Kit
  • Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 02: Robot Kit
  • Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 03: Vehicle Kit
As for other games, Nintendo itself has a database you can search a specific game for to see if it's compatible:
https://www.nintendo.com/sg/hardware...ity/index.html

Otherwise, this Nintendo Life article is the most comprehensive and up-to-date list I can find of games that either flat-out don't run, or have some minor issues:

That’s weird. I know I picked up Kids Farm coloring but it’s not showing that I did. So I don’t qualify for the last three.

Oh well, that’s the last time I bother doing that. Those games are absolute crap. Not worth the time and effort of downloading them or trying them out. The bodies and bullets twin stick zombie shooter is the closest thing resembling an actual game and may be worth a little bit of time. But there are a lot those types of games out there that are a lot better.

Thanks for posting every day though.

Amazon has the DK/Pauline amiibo for $20. I should hold until at least $15, the SF and TotK went down to $6, but I went ahead and picked it up.

This is why I want them to keep upping the price of the Amiibos. Nobody will buy them for what they’re asking and I’ll sweep in and pick them up on the cheap.

Cyberpunk for switch 2 is 17.49 (75% off). This might be a mistake because that's really cheap for something that just came out, cheaper than even the DLC on other consoles:

Definitely picking this up. Wish it was the physical version but for effectively $14 is awesome. One of the deals of the year.

To add to this you always have 12 months to redeem the vouchers from the date of purchase. New Switch titles can still be added to the voucher list after January 30.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

Well I finally joined the switch 2 family officially. I had bought the system at launch even though it was an Xmas present because I was worried about supply issues, which proved to be unfounded considering there were actually deals on the bundle leading up to Xmas, but oh well.

Seems like the Stardew Valley switch 2 update was borked somehow, and the developer has promised to fix it.

The two system linked limit is a further annoyance because it kind of renders our "old" family switch unusable for digital games (my daughter already takes up the one linked spot on her switch) which kinda sucks. Also while I kinda want the "free" upgrades for both Zeldas I still can't justify upgrading my family switch online account to the next tier.

BTW some fantastic sales on the eshop right now (not Nintendo games though). Tempted by Silksong and Hades 2 even though the discount isn't that much, Baten Kaitos is the lowest it's ever been, etc.

What setting do you use for picture; Standard (Game) or FPS game or it would depend on what kind of game you’re playing. Obviously, FPS seems a little brighter, but Standard looks darker. I prefer bright visual but neither are too bright.

In this case, Google would be your friend. Search "Dynamic Tone Mapping" and the brand and model of your TV and it will tell you the analogous menus and processes (if any) that you will need to look for.

Good luck.
