Just a few years old.

I mean if the Dreamcast is a few years old, maybe. It's just more expensive. It doesn't seem like an unproven technology.

My bad. I misread an article.

Oh wow the Dreamcast had it? That’s crazy. Why don’t all analogue sticks use Hall effects then? I mean it can’t be cost. 8bit duos now use them and a bunch of third parties that are cheaper than official controllers. So what’s up with that? But for joycon 2 I can see where the magnets holding them in the system might interfere with them. They are really close.

Planned obsolescence.

But seriously, "No More Stick Drift" was a supposed feature from the early leaks.
I don't really hear about drift much with Dual Sense controllers or whatever they call the XSX controllers, and they don't use that Hall Effect sticks either -- even the really fancy, expensive, first party ones that both MS and Sony sell.
So it's not like they'll definitely drift if they're not Hall Effect ones, right?

So apparently Switch 2 versions of Switch 1 games do have the upgrade on the cart.

How is Nintendo going to sell you new Joycons every few years for ~$100 if the analog sticks don't start drifting??

Well, to be fair, at least in the US they replace them at their own cost (which reminds me I have to send like 6 of them in before they get rid of that program)

True. But the fact that they didn't fix them in the 2 means they're making money on selling replacements and they think it's tied to analog sticks breaking.

If they were losing money on replacements, they would have fixed the issue.

Preorders directly from Nintendo open May 8th for active NSO subscribers. You can pre-register now. Although I accidentally selected the bundle, which I don't want, and you can't change your mind. Oh well.

Question, does this mean you will definitely get a pre-order, or does it add you to a lottery for Nintendo to choose from? I have read so much, I don't know what to believe anymore.

I think it's like how Steam handled Steam Deck pre-orders. They go by order of sign-ups (with a preference for those who have been Nintendo Online members for >1 yr). You get an email and a 72 hour window to buy. So they won't all be available at launch, but eventually your opportunity will come up. And not a "lottery". At least that's how I read things.

I signed up last week but I'm still on the fence. I REALLY want to play Wind Waker again, but is that worth the price to buy one at launch?

Poor Canada can't pre-order tomorrow now, either. Nintendo is syncing up their pre-orders with the US for some reason. Even though the CAD price isn't changing.

You're either missing the point entirely or intentionally misconstruing things to try and make your argument. Nobody is expecting PS5 level graphics at $300. Nobody, so I'm not sure why you keep posting it. What they are doing is putting out a PS4 capable machine which would be reasonable at $300. That's where it should be, and all I've been trying to get across. Where they are, is $450-$500 which should bring better specs with the inflated price.

It's also telling that it's over $100 cheaper in Japan and around $330, which is, wait for it, exactly what I've been saying.

The Piranha Plant camara is only 480p. I didn't realize camaras were still made at that resolution. Won't want to put anyone using one of those on full screen. :yack:

Looks like it costs $47.99.

I feel like Canada is about to be screwed (or a lot of people are going to be "visiting" Canada and coming back with a switch 2 and some other things)

Trump has paused tariffs for 90 days. Wouldn't you think that this would be the time to start pre-orders?

No, because the tariffs could very well be back before June when the orders would bill and ship. No one is going to trust the 90 day pause.

Nintendo has postponed the launch of Switch 2 in China indefinitely. Not due to anything tariff related. Due to China's strict regulations on gaming.

Well they have to make some kind of assumption soon. The other problem is what happens when the 90 days are up, they just brace (along with everyone else) for a surge in MSRP?

I think they're gonna cancel the US launch. If today's Make Showers Great Again (not a joke) is any indication, each day is a new surprise.

That was the originally announced date for direct pre-orders. IGN posted a story about it today, but I think they forgot that this was already the plan.
