Might have actually been CG. I’ll take another look, but the skin movement and mouths looked CG to me.

How does Cyberpunk 2077 count as an ongoing game? Because it just got an expansion? Does every game that gets an expansion count?

Yea, this one surprised me but no like a lot of other stuff did as well.....for all purposes Elder Scrolls Online, Warframe and my favorite...No Man's Sky should've won for Best On-Going....Cyberpunk gets one expansion and wins????

Biggest takeaway from The Awards...
Starfield a Big Zero.....before BG3 came out Starfield was to win everything, the best game in ages, praised by every Game News Site as THE GAME of 2023.....nothing....
Sort of surprised Spiderman didn't get nothing.....
The Harry Poter Hogwarts Game being left out of GotY...just Bad Period.....

I knew there was almost no chance BG3 wasn't going to win GOTY. The gaming media was hyping the shit out of it. Like a week after the game came out there were like 50 separate articles/stories about it on Kotaku and Polygon alone.

Re: The Game Awards 2023 - December 7

Cyberpunk winning for best ongoing game was a fucking joke. Fortnite should have won that hands down.
And yes, there was zero doubt that BG3 was going to win GOTY.

Which of the nominated games would you bump to make room for Hogwarts Legacy?

I wouldn’t argue that it’s a bad game or anything, but I don’t think it’s exceptional enough to make that short a list. I’d have expected Hi-Fi Rush (the most nominated game to not be up for GOTY), Armored Core 6, Jedi Survivor, Street Fighter 6, Dave the Diver, yadda yadda to make the list before Hogwarts Legacy.

Starfield was hotly anticipated to be sure, but the reviews from many of the more prominent sites were hardly over the top raves (IGN, GameSpot, Eurogamer, Polygon, PC Gamer, Kotaku), calling it tedious and huge but empty. And since the nominations are from these same sites, well…

Yeah, I'm not sure how many people thought it was going to be a GOTY winner, (and to say otherwise is just silly) and for me it would definitely be behind Hogwarts.

I don't hate it....I hated the fact everyone on the XBox side of the fence along with Game News Sites promoted, pushed, glorified Starfield as The Savior of XBox for last few years...you rarely heard any other Exclusive Games being mentioned.....and when Starfield got delayed...again...start of the year guess what game was then highlighted to help save the day....Redfall.....and everyone knows what happened there.....Starfield is good from what I've seen but not the Best Game of 2023 and not The Game to Save XBox...there are other "Space Sims" that's just as good and even more one can do....like actually have MP and Co-op...a Space Sim solo?...which might account for one of the reasons the player count, especially on Steam, is going down..

Why Is Starfield Hemorrhaging Active Players? (kotaku.com)

.....One can find stories and videos like this dime-a-dozen...the question is why especially after all the glorified hyped press and coverage the game has gotten for the last 1-2 years.....and I'm not gloating one bit; I like Bethesda and their games, still play Fallout stuff and Elder Scrolls. In fact one can go way back when Starfield was a concept, before MS took over and Starfield was going to be released on all platforms. In fact, Howard wanted it so when M.S looked at buying Bethesda...and it was M.S who said yea, that's fine but then lied and said nope, XBox and PC only.....according to insiders at Bethesda that is exactly what happened.....

According to Howard, Starfield is meant to be played and be around for a long time...but unless they change something....nope.....Fallout 4 with some companions in a wasteland size of a small state is one thing, but exploring a vast space alone not to mention 80% or so of the so-called Planets not even having Life....well just how much can one do to keep entertained and not get bored or feel just alone....

Re: The Game Awards 2023 - December 7

You're delusional and buying into some weird console war bullshit with all the "dime-a-dozen" and "glorified hyped press coverage" nonsense. Yes, games media writes clickbait. That's nothing new. Congrats on being a willful participant.
What does anyone care if there are 2 or 20,000, or 20,000,000 active players for a single player game on Steam (when the game was freely available to play to all Game Pass console or PC subscribers)? Because the modding community isn't out in full force? Bethesda hasn't even released their official mod tools yet, as far as I know.
Like, damn, Just play a game you like instead of feeding into this reactionary crap about the games you seemingly aren't going to play anyway, especially in The Game Infomercials Awards thread, which isn't even about any specific game. Except Baldur's Gate 3, naturally.

Re: The Game Awards 2023 - December 7

Well said, I just didn't feel like getting into a discussion about fanboyism or butthurtness over a game not coming to a specific console, especially in light of recent events.

Re: The Game Awards 2023 - December 7

Well he's not off regarding modders showing little to no interest in Starfield.

That in of itself is not the end of the world, but it's just one more sign of how the game hasn't connected with most gamers, for whatever reason (having not played the game, I will not opine regarding its quality). That lack of player interest, single player or no, would negate its chances of being GOTY. Unlike, say, movie awards, game awards tend to revolve around the amount of player engagement/awareness rather than only quality. Otherwise, we'd see more indie games win GOTY instead of the usual AAA releases.
