The Game Awards 2023 - December 7

The Game Awards nominations came out today.

Game of the Year

Alan Wake 2
Baldur's Gate 3
Marvel's Spider-Man 2
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Super Mario Wonder
The Legend of Zelda : Tears of the Kingdom

So all sequels. Surprisingly Starfield is not nominated. In fact it appears both Starfield and Diablo 4 got only one nomination each (Best RPG, Best Multiplayer Game, respectively).

I'm guessing it's a safe bet Baldur's Gate 3 wins GOTY.

Hard to beat the story, character development and overall gameplay of Spider-man 2.

Zelda easily. Although BG3 was my GOTY.

IMO Zelda should win for its broad appeal (plus the fact that it's brilliant.) BG3 would be my personal choice as well, though.

No idea if it SHOULD, but I really think BG3 will win.

Alan Wake 2 is the only one of those six games I care enough about, so it definitely won’t win I’ll get to most of them over the next six months or so, but…

I watched some extended gameplay of BG3. It’s very much Not For Me and that’s ok. It’s the most likely winner based on reviews from gamers and pros alike.

Just based on the media hype BG3 is a lock to win this.

That's OK, most of us are looking forward more to your list more than The Game Awards.

2021 was a reminder that there's no such thing as a lock with their GotY award.

Re: The Game Awards 2023 - December 7

It blows my mind that the guy who made this movie twenty years ago ended up making a game that won GOTY in 2021.

I don't see anything there as a lock though. I don't see a clear consensus favorite and I could easily see any of those games winning.

Poets of the Fall had that great song from Max Payne 2. I still listen to it today.

I can't help but laugh at the generic handles of those eSports nominees. How does anyone know who any of them are? Why not use their real names instead.

Yes, I am a 40+ grump complaining about something so pointless.

They should have at least had their pics next to their name like they did on the voting website.

I get Vtubers to an extent, but not "adult" Vtubers... what is the point?
